Second time to this place. Last year was around end of May and when they had outdoor seating for covid. This time, we were seated inside. Upon getting seated, they took our luggage to hold for us and our coat. It does get quite busy so it's not a place for a nice quiet dinner. Service as good and VERY attentive. I think they asked us about 4 times if we were ready to order right after we got seated. And it was from different waiters. Food wise, it's was good. Had some mussels to share and an order of the fried mushrooms. Entrees was pasta, the seafood and carbonara I believe. They were good, flavors was nice. Overall, place is nice and busy. On what I imagined would be a quiet midweek late lunch Di Maggios was full to bursting so we had a ten minute wait for table. I love me a booth and thankfully we managed to bag one. It's a wee bit more private and less noisy tucked away from the hustle and bustle. I opted for olives and bread to start and given the size of it I should have shared! Others had the badass chicken wings and the bruschetta. For mains it's always pizza for me at Di Maggios and I went for the vegetarian and a bowl of chips. The chips got shared around as I was too full from the olives! A couple of bottles of wine and two jugs of water later we were happy and full. No room for dessert. This place has been a firm family favourite for two decades and it was good to be back. Happy days! Check out the offers on 5pm website. Currently two courses for a tenner at lunch til 3pm. I visited this city centre Di Maggio's for lunch with my gran on Monday. It was an alright experience, we went because we were in the area and it was a convenient location. The food was alight, I had mozzarella cubes, breaded and fried with a tomato sauce type dip which just tasted like their base tomato sauce. Then the VERDI pizza: spinach, rocket, feta cheese, chillies & parmesan flakes drizzled with garlic & chilli oil. It was an alright pizza, a little under baked and there was no chilli to speak of, either fresh or in the oil. There was loads of topping though, and the feta was tasty. My gran ordered the goats cheese salad which was lovely, a good slab of cheese with it! Nicely seasoned and dressed well. To follow she had spaghetti Bolognese, which she said was lovely. Unfortunately it looked as though there was a mix up in the kitchen and we could see my dish sitting on the pass for five, ten minutes before my gran's dish was ready meaning it had gone a little soggy and the rocket wilted under the heat of the lamps. Which since you'd imagine the Bolognese would be ready in bigger batches ready to go. The service was pretty poor, sitting everyone very close together and by the kitchen even though it wasn't very busy, they were quite slow and there was a lot of confusion between staff. We waited a good few minutes to be seated even though we could see plenty of staff not doing anything. I wouldn't rush back here, especially compared to their other locations. I've had enjoyable meals in both the west end and Shawlands restaurants. they also don't the serve the brilliant value lunch menu that is provided at the rest of their locations. The decor was nice enough but the layout of the restaurant makes it feel quite dark and dingy. I can see the appeal of this pretty reasonably priced, city centre restaurant but it's just not somewhere I think I'll go back to. read more

Better than a three, not quite a four. Great location, right on the square. Noticed nice outdoor seating but weather was too cool for it this night. Seated immediately downstairs. Two very drunk guys were then seated next to us (with a buffer table between), but they ended up behaving better than I'd expected. Amusing but not annoying. Mussels to start in a white broth (butter, cream, garlic, wine, I'd guess) that was fantastic. Wife had a very nice mushroom and chicken risotto. I had a salmon dish that was fine, but forgettable. Good solid, simple Italian fare - no complaints. Service was spotty, but not egregiously bad. Probably won't be back with so may other great places to try in such a small area. read more

It takes a lot for an Italian restaurant to be worthwhile in my eyes, and Di Maggio's took a while to get my seal of approval. I used to work next door and often used their takeaway as we got a staff discount. Pasta dishes swimming in sauce and some half-arsed American hybrids seem to be the order of the day, but then I made a discovery. Fusilli Al Greco with olives, and a pizza with olives, Serrano ham and anchovies. Utterly flawless. read more

I'm really sorry to be leaving 2 stars on a place but it really wasnt great. Arrived at Di Maggio's to meet friends for dinner. There were 3 staff members near the door so I asked them to direct me to my friend's table. They ignored me (including a manager) and continued discussing which dishes needed washed so I stated "Its ok i'll find it myself" to have one at least reply "Sorry I dont know where it is" Fair enough, thanks for at least responding to me so off I went to find my friends. When I finally found them (which wasnt easy) it took a while for a waiter to ask my order. I thought he was asking about drinks but no he wanted to know about food - even though I didnt have a drink. I gave him my drinks order and asked for a few moments to read the menu. We decided to share a Foccaccia Peppercino which was supposed to come topped with fresh tomato, onion, chilli, basil and balsamic. Instead we got tomato paste and bread which had kinda been chopped but not fully so when we tried to split it it became messy. It did taste nice though so at least thats something. For main we all ordered the Lucca pizza which was supposed to have peppers, olives, pine nuts and oil. Well it did but as you can see from the photograph a few bits of each (a few is being generous). I did ask about sides but was told the wedges and onion rings were cooked with meat so given we're vegan we passed. Some extra things to note - at one stage my friend asked asked a waiter (when one finally came) for extra oil. He was carrying a bin bag at the time but noone else was coming near us. He did go to get oil but carried the bin bag to our table, through the restaurant and then back to the table. He was young and did try to help so can totally forgive that. When we went to pay the waiter (another one) informed us we were short of money. We werent. The money was laying outside the dish but on the table beside the other money. He told us he wasnt allowed to touch money on table. New one to me. He could have asked was the money on the table for the bill instead of saying we were short money. DiMaggio's is a Glasgow institution. They have 4 branches across the city and are so popular you need to book for dinner. I've only ever been for lunch and I must say - I don't know what the hype is all about. It's not that there's anything WRONG with it. It's pretty good. But that's all. The only really big gripe with me is that a lot of their staff seem to have trouble understanding English. What is that about? I don't have a particularly strong Scottish accent, and even if I did - the restaurant is in Glasgow, so we should be able to make ourselves understood. On one occasion here I had their "famous" lasagne. It was a great lump of lasagne in a bowl, with no sides or salad. It was extremely tomatoey though, which isn't really to my taste. Another time I had pasta, not carbonara, but something similar, and it was pretty nice. I personally would never choose to go here, but if someone else suggested it I would have no complaints. read more

Just another one of your average, run-of-the-mill, cookie-cutter Italian restaurants. I went here for a birthday a few years ago and was a bit disappointed, given the hype that had surrounded the place before I went. They have outdoor seating area on Royal Exchange Square during the summer, which always looks lovely, but al fresco in Glasgow is always a little less fun than you would imagine. However Di Maggios itself is very nice. Not much difference in price from Frankie & Benny's, but definitely a better overall experience, and as far as I know it isn't all brought in frozen and re-heated. When I went more recently we'd been hearing lots of hype about their pizzas - which, when they came, were positively dripping with grease and ahd to be consumed with a knife and fork. I'm assured they tasted pretty good, though. The best part for me was the stuffed potato skins. Mamma mia! They're delicious. It's a bit of a shame when your starter is the most memorable part of your dinner, but oh well. Good Italian food, in a very Italian setting, and a big bar. Not bad at all. Visited here on Tuesday, had looked @ deals on 5pm.com so was happy with £10.95 for two courses Pizza & Pasta. Was shown to table promptly table was located next to kitchen so watched all comings and goings whilst waiting for friend and had nice glass of house red, Montepulciano which happens to be one of my favorite Italian reds. When my friend arrived she ordered the same. We had, very attentive waiting staff and I ordered loaded potato skins they were very well presented and tasted as good as they looked, my Friend had Mozzarella Cubes and she also enjoyed her starter. For mains I had Pappardelle Rustica, and Fiona had Pappardelle Al Funghi they both looked and tasted delicious. What I thought was going to be a lovely night in a nice part of the city in a nice restaurant certainly was not!! I went on a Saturday night and booked my table in advance online so when we got their it was not a problem and was seated straight away. I sat down and didn't even get my coat off or time to see the menu before the waiter asks me what I wanted to drink so I was a bit annoyed. Then when he brought over the drinks I needed time to look at the menu for our dinner, he came over a few times not giving us much time to see the menu I was beginning to feel uncomfortable and rushed. So I order my meal and he didn't look me in the eye and kept talking too staff walking by so I had to stop and start! It was so unprofessional. Then eventually food time we thought brilliant it's coming but what the hell does the waiter do ! We where sitting at the bit where theirs is a banest rail type fence and instead of him walking round and up the stairs to give us our menu he passed it over the fence ! At this point I was fuming and just wanted to go! The food we'll my supposidly BBQ pizza was terrible it certainly had no BBQ sauce on it and just had big lumps of chicken on it so when I cut it up and went to take a slice it feel off and ruined the pizza. I love this place, been loads of times. The food always arrives extremely quickly and is consistently of a high quality. The lasagne is something everyone should try. I've been to quite a few other Italian places and had many a lasagne but nowhere has came close. If you want some Italian food you can't go far wrong with this place in my experience. Although I will say there is a lot of dishes on the menu I haven't tried because as you may have noticed I'm stuck on the one. Great pizza! My husband and I were looking for a place to eat lunch and found Di Maggio's. We ordered a pizza with chosen ingredients, but we also wanted the ham only on one side of the pizza. Not only was this request accommodated, when they brought the pizza out it was cut in half and on 2 plates. The pizza was fresh and tasted amazing. Great service, great food... I'm a big fan of this place. I'm not sure if I have reviewed this place before, but for the avoidance of doubt the three or 4 other times I've eaten here I've really enjoyed it. This time, however, not so much. By the time I finished this review I realised I'd ranted so I'll synopsosize for those in a rush. Food = Crap. Service = Crap. Staff = Idiots. Get the bad ass wings to start no ifs or buts. This is my first bad experience here and I've eaten her 4 or 5 times. We, not the royal wee but Laura and I, were there for a retirement dinner and I never paid nor did I get to see the bill, however, if I had been I'd be kicking off unless a big discount had been applied. 14 of us (including 4 kids) Service/standard of food was appalling. Nearly 10 minute gap from getting the first starter out to the last. By the time the last starter was out more than one person at the table had already finished theirs. The kids were served in between starter and main which was good except the idiotic waiter handed a hot plate to a 6 year old who almost repainted the joint and ended up lookng like a you Harvey Dent. Not cool man what kind of idiot gives a kid a plate, sit it down in front of them and if they knock it over then nae luck for them but giving a full plate to a weedy kid is just asking for trouble. I had Di Maggio's "Bad Ass Wings (GF) Crispy Bad Ass Louisiana Hot Wings served with celery sticks and blue cheese dip" 20 pieces are £10 quid and make an ideal starter for two fat or 3 normal people. I grudgingly sharedit with one other person. This was the only reason the place scrapes 2 stars, if I had had anything else it'd be a straight 1 but these thngs are A-MAZING. Served with a blue cheese dip, I don't even like blue cheese, but with the hot sticky sauce it's a match made in heaven. More than half, 6, of the mains were sent back as they were cold and came out in a very protracted fashion. The ones that weren't sent back were luke warm at best. I got a full rack of ribs with one half tasting great but the 2nd half was stone cold and when I turned it over the sauce was congealed at the bottom making me worry did it get cooked properly in the first place? I complained saying the thing didn't look cooked as received a lecture stating that the pinkness was due to the spices used, my crap-o-meter ringing but i wasn't saying it was raw, just the very nature of the congealed sauce made me think this can't have been heated very well. I sent it back to get a new full rack, it went back with chips but arrived at the table with a salad. I only ate one of the reheated halfs as I was quite full and second rack looked like it had been taken for a scabby rat. I'd have been embarrassed bring that over but well they wern't. Despite the problems the ribs tasted nice. Through the long waits and sent back meals the servers were asking did we want a drink. It was frustrating because it was being offered in the way that it would be complimentary but those words were never said. If you're being comped you should be made aware so that there is absolutely no ambiguity. I'd have asked but again I wasn't paying and wasn't sure if the person that did was gonna save up the lack of complimentary stuff for a discount. Whether he did or not I'll never know. I would come here again as although they really really really dropped the ball it is usually very good. If you can't handle serving 10 people plus childers at once don't take big bookings simple. read more

Stumbled into this place after getting off the train from Edinburgh.. We were just looking for somewhere to grab a bite before heading out to the airport hotel. Have to say, I was quite impressed with the food. Better than your standard Italian chain.. The service was a bit sporadic but there were enough servers wandering around that it never took very long to flag someone down. The largest of the Di Maggio restaurants the Royal Exchange Square is a perfect spot for all food lovers. Whether you're a big wig business power luncher, a bargain hunter needing a break from a hard days shopping, or you're about to kick start a night out in the city centre tiles. Then you're in a prime location. In the summer months its extensive sun terrace is a magnet for people watchers and sun-worshippers. During the festive months pre-booking is always best. For added comfort to an already rather comfortable atmosphere I recommend grabbing a booth. It's just that wee bit more cosy. Food wise I can't fault this place. The prices are reasonable for a quality menu that's packed with all the classics and a bit extra. The pizzas are ace, the desserts are just yummy. My fave thing to order is the lasagne. It simply reminds me of my aunt's lasagne. Nooo no, I can't say which aunt! Are you mad?! I'm a bitI've already said too much about aunts and their cooking. If I make it to next Yelp do, I'll be the one with a black eye and a guilt complex. The only thing I would change is the decor. Time to bring it into the 21st century. Hi folks have to say i totally agree with other reviews but i guess ive been lucky as i dont like sea food or oviles ...so cant mark down for things i just wouldnt order! Have been about 8 times as of october 2013 Always found the staff helpfull & friendly some go.out of there way to accomodate Draft lager spot on ...peroni in a bottle overpriced though Favs are fillet steak never had a bad one from.here And the callzoni's are great n very filling! Other half swears by the pasta dishes I empathise with those who had bad experiences but sone i feel have left bad reviews in light of only eith minor annoyance or one bad experience if you go to a place often enough its bound to happen! Only bad thing i can say is sometimes they do stuff up. Very hard to fault this place. Food arrives very quick and I this very plentiful. Their pizzas and carbonara are pretty good. However if you decide to opt for a starter and get chicken wings, make sure you get the sauce on the side as they swamp the chicken wings with it. Great to go during the summer for some refreshing cocktails! Staff are extremely friendly. I've never been able to finish all my meal to give a review on the deserts but if you're looking for a nice place to eat and come across here then go in and try some pizza, there's so much to choose from and it's really good! read more

Di Maggios carries a good reputation, and they're dotted all over Glasgow. This is one of the busier ones, presumably from the location. The Italian meals are the obvious choice, with pizzas being the most popular meal on the menu amongst my friends. I tucked into the European menu and forked over a tenner for a steak, which was, I must say, amazing. It's not a million miles away from other Italian restaurants like Frankie and Bennies. The interior is pleasant and welcoming, but can get a bit cramped. The service is efficient and most of all, the food is really good. A good place for a birthday party or a gathering of 8 or so people for a proper good meal. It's in a good location near some other good places like Common and The Social. read more

Been in here a few times for some reason or another-This is a good enough Italian American esque restaurant, with good enough food and good enough service. That's the problem though - nothing stands out - the food is often very nice but is pretty much just usually a decent example of what it is - nothing special about it, no depth to the flavour, nothing "extra" or more; just what you would expect of it. There are better alternatives aplenty in surrounding areas, but you could do worse than this functional little Italian restaurant. Di Maggios has a really strong following, and a brilliant reputation, and it's easy to see why. Whenever I go to Glasgow for the day I always go in here for a bite to eat, but there's always a queue. Although the restaurant is big, every single table is usually filled. To be honest, I can't see why there's such a big fuss...yea it's a nice place and the food is delicious, but this sort of place is ten-a-penny. The pizza's here are the best thing, but my mum swears by the smoked-salmon linguini. They have an extensive menu, so be prepared to look. The staff are wonderful, they have great characters and have a laugh with the customers. It's a nice and friendly atmosphere, great for families. Although I am a Di Maggios fan this Di Maggios somehow has the rudest staff. This is where they must send all the waiters that have bad manners. Food is as good as any other Di Maggios and is quite big with two floors but gets extremely hot any time of year. I love coming here for dinner with my friends. This restaurant has a really great atmosphere, and the decor is lovely as well. The menu is varied from chicken dishes (I always go for cream and cracked peppercorn chicken), burgers, pizza, and pasta (I tend to go for penne picante, or positano). The food is always cooked really well, and I haven't had a bad meal in here yet. The desserts are also delicious and very indulgent! I went here last week and ordered the caramel shortcake sundae, which was sublime. Now, if you go on a weekend it can get extremely busy and a bit noisy, but it does just add to the atmosphere in the restaurant. I would always advise to book in advance. For a 3 course dinner and drinks last Friday it cost me £30, which is not too bad considering it was three courses. Normally during the week they do a fixed price menu and is two courses for 11.95 (I think), which is much more reasonable! All in all, I enjoy coming here for dinner as the food is always delicious and can guarantee a good night. P.S. Located in Royal Exchange Square, this Di Maggio's has an excellent location in the city centre. The menu is fairly typical of all their other restaurants and the food is of good quality, as one would expect. The ambience in the restaurant is lovely, though there is a slight lack of space; given it's central location, space is at a premium. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Cost of a meal is £10-£15 a head, though obviously dependant on what you go for! An excellent choice if you're looking for Italian food, though also consider some of the offerings in the nearby Princes Square. read more

I'm not one for wild accusations - but Dimaggios gave me food poisoning. Poor service, poor mains and poor stomach. I ordered (against better judgement) the Calzone 'with a little bit of everything'. Alarm bells probably should have sounded when the waiter could not clarify what 'a little bit of everything' was. I felt ill shortly after eating whatever that calzone had hidden away beneath it's doughy exterior. Less than 24 hours later my face was getting friendly with the toilet bowl. There was 11 of us and although space was at a premium as noted in some other reviews and given that it was a Saturday, we were quickly seated. The restaurant had a good buzz and this contributed to a good evening. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant with nothing too much trouble even though we pestered them with continual drinks orders!! The menu was varied and offer some usual and unusual Italian options. The price was reasonable and on a par with other similar restaurants in the area. I would definately visit again and would have no reservations taking the family. read more

I am so confused! I've always loved Di Maggio's - their bruschetta and pappardelle funghi are exceptional but I had a really bad experience last week. We ordered 2 bruschetta, a Caesar salad and a pappardelle. The bruschetta were swimming in the tomato mixture so the bread was crispy only for about 30 seconds. When we spoke to our waiter about the issue with the bruschetta, his response was: "This is how it always is, I have been serving here for years", despite us telling him we've never seen the bruschetta served with so much topping. So apparently we were lying to him about being regulars. The lettuce in my salad was wilted, browned and UN-WASHED! I could actually see and touch the dirt on the leaves. I asked for another plate, one that had clean lettuce. They returned my salad to me with leaves full of water. Shouldn't a restaurant of this calibre know that salad leaves must be washed AND dried if the dressing is to stick to it? The waiters response to this? "The head chef is away, so the guys, you know, they're lazy, they send out food like this." Why would anyone say that!? Anyways, we had to call the manager over and he was more understanding about the situation, but regardless, that experience has left a really bitter taste in my mouth and I won't be returning to Di Maggio's for a loooong time. We booked in here for our staff party. There were 13 of us and the seating wasn't great for us, lengthways, so you could only really talk to who was next to you and infront of you. Couldn't see how else they could have done it though, didn't seem to cater for groups. Most of us had the set menu, 3 courses for £17.95 which was a great deal, lots of choice. I enjoyed my meal, staff were friendly, but I think the food came out a bit "slap dash". 1 of our group ordered something from the main menu, seabass, but with no sauce and I must say, they could have done more with the presentation! Do the most amazing lasagne and chocolate fudge cake, not to mention all the yummy starters. I love this place!
