At this point on my trip, I had been to a lot of spots, but my partner and I had a craving for a teri plate or burger and this did not disappoint. Pretty simple order, but it was made to order, the veggies were fresh, and the meat was flavorful and not salty. The patty paired really well with the potato bun and veggies. I did not get a picture, but I also stopped inside the market and tried the blueberry cream cheese scone and banana scone. I heated them up when I got back to where I was staying, and it was still very moist and the texture reminded me of a muffin. I went to try their famous lemon crunch cake and blueberry scone. The lemon crunch cake was so good wtf. I understand why people rave about this item. The crunch of the cake really gives it the extra texture that it needs in addition to the denseness of the cake itself. The cake base reminded me a bit of a light pound cake - pretty good. It also did not feel too heavy like other cakes that would give me a headache from being too rich - this one was just right. The center feature a lemon meringue type filling which reminded me of the same filling you'd find in a lemon bar. Overall the flavors melded together perfectly and I'd buy this again when I feel like a cheat day omg. The blueberry scone is also extremely famous here and I was able to nab the last few when it was nearing closing time. Their blueberry scone is huge keep that in mind LOL. Also I found it to be a bit doughy and soft. I feel like if this is your type of scone then by all means go for it, but for me personally not really my cup of tea. I was alerted to this place by Honolulu Yelper, Jo Y. She had mentioned that they have excellent scones here. As I was checking out their website, it happened to be dinner time and I noticed that they had extensive lunch and dinner plates, so I decided to check it out! They're located in Kapahulu, right on the corner of Monsarrat & Campbell (enter on Monsarrat and exit on Campbell). There are quite a few free parking stalls available in front, but I'm sure that probably fills up during busy hours. Upon arrival, I discovered that you order the plate lunches outside, but you go inside the market if you want to purchase scones, deli items such as sandwiches, cheese plates, salads, drinks (including wine), desserts, etc. This would be a great place to pick up items for a picnic or beach day! I went inside the market to check it all out, but didn't purchase anything since I was there for dinner. There were only a few people in line outside ordering dinner plates. I got the miso ginger salmon for $19.85 - fresh seasoned salmon fillets splashed with miso ginger sauce. It came with rice (I chose brown rice) and salad with a honey mustard vinaigrette. It only took about 5-7 minutes before it was ready. When I first opened the box, I thought the salmon pieces were a little small. However by the time I finished my plate, I was full. The salmon was moist and tasty. I really enjoyed the miso ginger sauce on it. I also thought that the salmon went well with the salad and I loved the delicious honey mustard vinaigrette dressing. My wife and I enjoy supporting local establishments, but our first visit to Diamond Head Market & Grill was so disappointing and uncomfortable that it will also be our last. While we were waiting for our food, we decided to check out the bakery area and purchased one dessert item. During the transaction, the cashier repeatedly commented that we were only buying one item, despite there being two of us. The situation became especially upsetting when the cashier made a disrespectful remark implying that we could not afford to purchase more. That comment was unnecessary, embarrassing, and completely unprofessional. No customer should be made to feel judged, belittled, or disrespected over what they choose to purchase. At that point, I requested a refund for the dessert item because the interaction had already made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. When I brought the matter to management, I expected the concern to be handled with understanding and professionalism. Instead, the manager was dismissive and combative, which only made the situation worse. A simple apology, acknowledgment, or attempt to address the issue respectfully would have gone a long way, but unfortunately, that was not the response we received. The food itself was also disappointing. It was mediocre in quality and extremely oily, which added to the overall negative experience. Customer service matters, and the way guests are treated leaves a lasting impression. I think I visited many years ago - that's why I couldn't remember that the entrance is on the Monsarrat Street side... and the exit is on Campbell Avenue... Oops! The Grill side is closest to Campbell Avenue. It's like a plate lunch place where you can get a hot meal. The Market side has refrigerated items like whole cakes, flower lei, canned and bottled beverages, sandwiches, wraps, slices of cake, etc. I got the Salmon Salad Wrap and Lemon Crunch Cake. Hard to go wrong with Diamondhead grill. I love stopping by this market and grill either when I am at the beach or at Kapiolani Park. It's more of a drive up window with a parking lot so you can either eat your car or take it somewhere nearby, which I usually do. This time around I tried the garlic shrimp which wasn't bad although the rice this time around was a bit hard and the portion of shrimp looked on a smaller side, but still delicious. My partner got the Kalbi beef, which was a hefty portion on a bed of rice and very juicy. It also came with a side salad. Wanting to keep things simple for our journey up Diamond Head Road, I decided to pick up one Blueberry Cream Cheese scone and one slice of Banana Bread and after thinking about picking up a pre-packaged sandwich, I decided that since I was in Hawaii, I had to order a Spam & Egg Musubi. My total bill for the three items that I ordered was a little over 13 dollars, and since our visit took place on the month that Diamond Head Market & Grill started charging a three percent fee for using your credit card there for purchases, I decided to pay cash. While walking, we enjoyed our flakey scone and the banana bread held up so well that I enjoyed that treat while on top of the Diamond Head Crater taking in the view. I visited Diamond Head Market this morning at 7:30 AM right when you opened. I purchased a freshly baked scone and a tofu salmon salad that was marked half-price. When I got home and began eating the salad, I discovered that it was spoiled. This is a serious food safety issue and completely unacceptable. I immediately called the store to report the situation. However, the woman who answered was dismissive and stated that the only thing you could do was offer a refund if I brought the salad back, before abruptly ending the call. This response was unprofessional and lacked any accountability. As a long-time loyal customer, I am extremely disappointed. It's got a lot of sandwiches especially made with beef or chicken, but there's lots more on the menu. There's also some things for vegetarians. From the outside it doesn't look like anything especially fancy. It's about $15 for a plate. These come with brown or white rice and a baby green salad. I got the Portobello Mushroom Plate. Probably the healthiest thing here it seems. It comes with caramelized onions and roasted garlic balsamic garlic jus. Sounds like a lot of garlic in this. It is. The flavors are good but your breath won't be though. Go in the morning to get fresh scones and other baked goods. I wanted a salad for lunch today and decided to check out Diamond Head Bakery as they usually have a nice variety. The greens for the salads may vary as to what they have and sometimes you can get an awesome salad with a lot of greens not found in other salads. The base is usually the same consisting of romaine and spring mix. I chose the turkey almond grape salad and today was the basic romaine and spring mix which was fine. As I was eating the salad I noticed something sticking out under the lettuce and pulled out a piece of masking tape. Are you kidding me!!!! It made me sick thinking how that strip of tape ended up in my salad. There needs to be a review of how the food ingredients are handled in the kitchen to ensure that this never happens again. Someone could have choked if they weren't paying attention and put a mouthful of salad in their mouth with the masking tape. Salad before tape found: 4 stars Salad after tape found: 0 stars I also picked up a Cranberry Mandarin Orange Cream Cheese scone. When I did bite into it OMG this is how the scones used to be - moist and yummy. The scones here are not dry like other places where you have to take a sip of a drink to wash it down. I thoroughly enjoyed the scone after the salad fiasco. The only difference I could see from how it was awhile back is that the amount of cream cheese is not as much as it was before but this was still dang good! Scone: 5 stars To be fair, most of my experiences with the bakery is good. The freshness with the scones and dessert items have been hit or miss.
