My first Dickey's experience was in the belly of the beast. I was in Dallas and the Dallas boys where I was working said it was a must-try. So I tried, and it was delightful. Sort of divey, sort of down home and quite good. The last time I had Dickey's was at the DFW airport. It was breakfast, and it was a truck full of food for something like ten bucks. Not the smartest move, but every bit as down home and sloppy as the BBQ. I was apprehensive when I saw they were expanding and that they were coming to Utah. Would they keep the same feel? Would the become shiny and polished and franchised? Would the food be the same? Well, to answer my own questions it's still pretty good. There is a certain shine to the stores and a certain we've-got-this-franching-thing-down feel that I'm not entirely comfortable with. But all loss of dirt character aside, they still make a pretty solid BBQ. I went with pulled pork, and while it didn't have quite the punch I thought, it was still a nice sandwich. The portions and price seem about right, which means you pay a few extra bucks but get pretty hefty servings. I opted for a few sides and got a couple nice scoops of dill potato salad (dill is a must for potato salad!) and some kind of potato casserole. The casserole was okay--I really wanted okra but didn't want the heavy fried feeling afterwards. Ha! Like BBQ is so light until you add okra? What I do remember so vividly about Dickey's from TX was the free ice cream. Sure as shootin, they have an ice cream machine in the back where you sit, and it's free as free can be, once you've ordered a dish. It's not exactly soft serve--but does dispense that way. It's remarkably hard once it comes out, and quite vanilla heavy. I quite liked it. If we've talked for more than three seconds you know I'm a pickle fan. I pickle everything from beans to asparagus, to classic dills. Imagine my delight to find a 47,000-gallon jar (exaggeration? Ya..) of big dill pickles that were free (with purchase) for the taking as well. Get at least one of those and cut it up for your potato salad. You're welcome. Also, fill up a little cup or three with their BBQ sauce in original, hot & spicy or sweet. Or mix n' match. I gotta say, it's an easy place to pop in for BBQ. Just get in line, order, and they should have it for you when it's time to pay. A little too slick to feel totally homey, but I'll take that BBQ on rainy afternoon like today! read more

Not good. I had a loaded baked potato. The meat was good, but the baked potato wasn't fully cooked and it wasn't even warm enough to melt the butter. My husband got ribs, and he said they were dry. It was 5:30 pm, and we were the only customers there. I felt like we were an imposition to the employees who were talking and laughing. No one said a word to us after they got our money. We are from Texas where there are great Dickey's, but this one was a huge disappointment. read more

I was walking by, someone opened the door and I could smell the real smoke coming out the door I walked in and grabbed a half rack for my bbq loving husband - and he loved them ! I've been to Dickey's a few times, and figured it's time to review. This wasn't today's lunch destination originally, nor is it the usual one we go to for work lunches. We just saw the sign, and unanimously all of us in the car decided the word had come down from the Vatican....."go for it"! I've tried most things at Dickey's, but today's gastronomical fiesta of flavors began with a 2 meal plate made up of: Meat 1: Pork Ribs Meat 2: Polish Sausage Side 1: BBQ Beans Side 2: Fried Onion Tanglers They have three kinds of BBQ sauces, which you just get as you desire so you're in the driving seat. There is sweet, the classic Dickey's BBQ sauce, and a spicy one. The ribs here are great, very tasty, and for the most part it is as they say "fall off the bone". This is best with the classic BBQ sauce in my opinion. Polish Sausage I get when I want to spice things up, so spicy sauce all the way with this one, for those fans of something with a little zing to it, I think you will agree this is a winner too. The other meats I've had have been good too - I'll review them another time I'm sure. Some of the sides I find a little bland personally compared to other BBQ places. This is particularly true of the BBQ Beans, however today I experimented with mixing in a little spicy BBQ sauce and it definitely improved it. Fried Onion Tanglers on the other hand are a delectable treat to be reckoned with, this is the one side I almost always get! They also have free soft serve ice-cream, which interestingly, as it warms up becomes less soft. This gives it two interesting properties: (1) You can compete with your friends to make the biggest ice cream in a tiny cone providing there's not too much of a line! (2) It defies the general laws of chemistry, which to me indicates this came out of the same lab that came up with McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. However in the case of the ice cream, it wins since it actually tastes good, and maybe someone was just trying to save me spilling down my working clothes. About Time! And they say science hasn't done some wonderful things...now how do you get BBQ sauce stains out? read more

Not great. The chicken was dry and got cold fast. The portions were small and everything was overpriced. The service was mediocre and the girl behind the counter seemed like she barely wanted to be there. This was one of my worst BBQ experiences. WOULD NOT COME AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Stopped by for take out dinner on 06/07. Food: Good and consistent. Had a pound of shredded pork. Got home and was still warm enough to eat. Service: WOW! These guys were great! Friendly and attentive. Even put the hot BBQ sauce in my bag for me (versus self serve). Ambiance: Typical Dickey's BBQ layout, seats, decor. Overall: Good food, awesome service! read more

Dickey's managed to eat the pineapple in a big way and lose their collective focus, which was made clear with an array of store closings and menu changes. I needed a new yellow cup (actually, may have to go a few more times as I'm running a touch low on those) and kept meaning to get to one, but kept finding old locations closed. As this is one of the few left and maybe the only one in the vicinity I didn't remember hitting, finally got the chance and took it. Food and service were both kind of sludgy this time. I wound up going with a jalapeno pulled pork bean fry thing and some okra. Okra was the usual solid job, flavor was ok on the messy fry thing, even if it was somewhat of a pain to eat, so no real complaints there. It definitely was not up to the earlier heights for BBQ and I wouldn't be surprised to see this shuttered also. In fact, if R & R gets around to hitting the area, this location is probably done. Coke Zero on tap was nice to see and the ice cream was the usual icy nonsense. In some ways, it was nice to take a little stroll down remembrance aisle, but it also kind of saddened me how a somewhat promising enterprise could fall so hard. Worth getting if you're in the area and need some emergency BBQ, but this is pretty far from a destination spot now. read more

COVID-19 still allows: Walk-in, take-out, and full menu (except no ice cream when you leave). I grew up near the original in Texas, and so (to me) this is how barbecue is *supposed to be.* My family made this a weekly thing, with sliced brisket, lots of sauce, smoked sausage, sides of beans, coleslaw, and potato salad. Watched sports or movies together while chowing down in front of the TV-- real "comfort food." Pro-Tip: Order too much and grab a loaf of bread for sandwiches out of leftovers. Today, it was a chopped beef sandwich with two sides and a drink. My regular eat-in, but ate in my truck because of social distancing rules still in effect. It was, of course, delicious. Staff seemed both happy to be there, and happy to serve. [I actually took video as I ate and posted to Facebook friends-- which was pretty epic, but Yelp only allows photos. Was not impressed with the cashier she was on the phone the whole time we ordered and after. The food was mediocre at best. The fried okra and onion tangles where the best sides because they were made to order. The brisket was wet as if it had been sitting in water and had lost most of the "smoke" flavor. Sign says "smoked slow served fast" but during lunch rush hour it's the other way around - smoked fast served s.l.o.w. Don't come during lunch on a week day unless you have at least a full hour. There were plenty of open seats when I visited. The serving line was the bottleneck. Food is OK for a BBQ place, not the best, not the worst. Free soft serve ice cream. read more

The severely limited number of restaurants on the west side of the valley drove us to eat at Dickey's Barbecue Pit. After eating the food, I will happily drive out of my way to dine somewhere else. I ordered a barbecue chicken hoagie and waffle fries. The sandwich was served dry and I chose from a variety of barbecue sauces to top it off. Seems like a great idea, right? Wrong. Both the bun and the chicken were so dry that no amount of sauce could compensate. Not to mention the limp, lifeless fries which were coated liberally in a dusting of black pepper. Yes, you read that right, pepper in every nook and cranny of those waffle fries. Not only was the food abysmal, the food safety practices were called into question when I watched the girl at the register handle cash and then promptly reach into the freezer (wearing the same gloves) and grab a handful of fries to put in the fryer. If that doesn't make you want to steer clear, than I applaud your bravery friend! read more

Awesome BBQ I loved it. Everyone should try this place. I hope they build some on Idaho. My daughter had the ribs they were awesome! I had the westerner 2 meats on a hoagie bun mmmmmmm. Had the pulled pork and briscuit then smothered in sweet BBQ sauce. My son had the same with sausage and pulled pork and it was excellent! And they are fast! The manager was supervising making sure things were ripping along. To top everything off they give you free pickles and ice cream! I'll definitely be be back. Dickey's bbq pit has great food, the wife, my two sons and I ordered the family pack with two meats, three sides and 6 rolls. The meats were sliced brisket and pulled pork which was cooked right(not under cooked and not too dry, great bbq flavor and texture. The sides were (2) Mac n cheese and baked potato casserole. The Mac n cheese w was really good , almost too cheesy but good and the casserole was great, actually tasted like a mashed baked potato. And the fact that it was delivered to us through "Door Dash" in a timely manner was a plus read more

This is a good lunch spot if you want a quick, hearty meal. However, the prices are a little expensive for lunch (averaging about $10 with sides and a drink) although the servers are large. The meat is good, fairly most and flavorful. For sides, I like the loaded potato casserole. I'm not sure why this is called a casserole as it's more like loaded mashed potatoes. I like that there is an ice cream machine however, I wouldn't quite call this ice cream as there does not seem to be enough cream in it. It's rather hard and fake tasting. However, when added to a cup of root beer for a root beer float, you can't even tell that it's not great ice cream! Service is quick and friendly and the manager is readily available, making sure that everything is running smoothly and customers are happy. read more

The taste of Texas has finally made it to Utah! When visiting family in Dallas, Dickey's was always one of our first stops. You can't go wrong with any of the meat choices. Tried this place yesterday for lunch. We've at these all over the country. They're a chain and the menu is pretty much the same at every location. Had the pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good. The food was ok. They didn't put much meat on my Sandwich. The service was poor. They had to ask my sides 3 different times. They weren't very friendly either. When I went to go get condiments and stuff they were out or running low of lids, cups, etc... also, ice cream machine was down. I don't understand how a restaurant is CONTINUALLY out of the same thing every time I place a dinner order. It doesn't matter what night it is, but the West Valley location never has the smoked turkey breast. It's the same b.s. excuse and pathetically rehearsed apology every time. Ok Dickey's, if you are running out of the same thing every night, maybe you should MAKE MORE of it. This is simple math that a child could figure out. I am not one to normally be so harsh with a review. My experience at this location gave me plenty of reason, however. I have been to Dickey's on several previous occasions. It is what it is, a fast food BBQ joint, and so my expectations are not set to ridiculous standards. On my visit last night for dinner takeout, it was difficult to find anything to fill an order. I am very understanding when I go to a BBQ joint and they tell me they are out of a certain item, as they only smoke so much of each meat. My issue was with the fact that I went through 5 different requests to find something to order at 530pm, during peak dinner hours. This was the case with the sides as well. Along with the difficult menu situatuon, the store was very dirty, with sauce, soda and ice cream all over the serving area. They were out of two of the three sauces that are available to serve yourself. When asked if they could refill those, I was tolde that it would be awhile, as they needed everyone behind the counter. Knowing that the BBQ here is not the greatest, you count on service and availibility to make up for it. Unfortunately, those were not there today to make up for the lack of menu items being available. read more

I visited this Dickey's because I had a gift card, and this was my first experience with the chain. We ordered 2 three meat plates with sides to go. I stopped in around 5:30 on a Friday night and was worried it would be really busy but there was only 1 other person in the restaurant at the time, so I was able to get in and out quickly. We got all of the following meat and sides: Brisket x2, Smoked Turkey, Pulled pork, Chicken Breast, and Ham. Sides: Baked Beans (though I ordered the Jalapeño beans), Bacon Green Beans, Coleslaw, and Potato Salad. The food was surprisingly dry and seemed to have been sitting around for a long time, I say surprising because it was dinner hour and I was expecting fresh batches. The Brisket was so dry (though the server used "tender") that he wasn't able to slice it, so I was only able to get it chopped. It didn't really have a distinguishable taste but when swimming in BBQ sauce it was acceptable. The Pulled pork and chicken breast were the best parts of the meal, and were both pretty good, but not great. The Ham was really tasty but it was very-very dry almost on the side of jerky, and had discoloration that was disconcerting. I did like the turkey but it was very smoky, and this coming from someone who loves things really smoky, but this just sort of tasted like they marinated it overnight in liquid smoke. My wife was unable to eat it, but I did have a few pieces myself. As for the sides, the potato salad was pretty good but not distinctive, the green beans were also pretty good, tasted like the basic thanksgiving side, the coleslaw tasted exactly like KFC, and the beans were not good in my opinion but the wife and our 1 year olds liked them and ate them up, though I should note that my wife HATES baked beans, so her liking these may suggest that they aren't very good as far as baked beans go. The fact that they gave me a full side container of BBQ sauce should have just about told me all I needed to know about the quality and taste of the meat on its own, and ultimately did sum up the experience, and as mentioned above, it was all acceptable in taste particularly when drenched in sauce. I would likely not go to a dickeys again, unless I did get another gift card from my work or somewhere, but there are just to many good BBQ places around to wasted time and money here. I would sum it up by saying they are essentially the Mcdonalds of BBQ. read more

Been here twice in the last month, both times they are out of everything but ribs and brisket. Being southern, I like sweet tea well they were out of that too. The wife went to take our daughter to the bathroom and couldn't even go inside. She said it was absolutely disgusting, almost like it hadn't been cleaned all day. This is the second time I have ordered online with this location. Unfortunately it will be the last. The first time, the employees had not been told about my order, until shortly before I got there and they did not have it ready. This time, when my daughter arrived to pick up our order, she was told that they knew there was an order, but did not know what was ordered. My phone number was on the order, so I don't understand why I was not called. On top of that, the order was wrong, after my daughter told them what we ordered. Instead of two Mac and Cheese, we got one. Instead of one Baked Potato Casserole, we got two Potato Salad. The sliced brisket was as much fat as it was meat. My daughter said there were no apologies for the trouble. I hope you are able to work out these issues. I hope you take the opportunity to look at both your internal order processing and at your customer service skills. read more
