The pulled chicken was flavorless. The pulled pork and brisket were a little better but equally unremarkable, and we were offered no bbq sauce, which would have helped the taste. And the baked beans tasted like they came from a can. I don't eat coleslaw but my husband was unimpressed. The corn bread tasted more like cake, which is probably good because they served bread pudding, which I don't care for. As for the ride... it was ok... but all they did was take us through farm fields to Enterprise, which had little to offer. Most rides like this would at least offer some tourist information on the area over an intercom but we got none of that. The trip was overpriced and unremarkable. I would not recommend it.

Tallgrass Prairie National Reserve is just phenomenallllll, and I can honestly say it has some of…read morethe bestest trails in Kansas! I wish I got to know about this national reserve sooner but better late than never. It's about 1.5 away from Kansas City near Strong city (10 mins away) and Emporia (25 mins away). I went out to the vast grasslands on a late Sunday afternoon after stopping for lunch in Emporia and was completely blown away by the beauty. I had heard the trails are amazing, but I stayed on the easier starting trail and didn't go into the bison area since it's breeding season and they can be more aggressive. By the time I arrived, the visitor center had already closed, but friends told me the staff there are very friendly and share helpful details about the park, possible hazards, bison behavior, and even things like bugs you should avoid. The park has clean restrooms, and since it's open 24/7, you can even go stargazing but just remember it's at your own risk!!! There are three types of trails here: backcountry hikes that can take up to 12 hours, a wildlife trail that takes about 3 hours where you might spot bison, and front country trails that take about 2 hours and loop around a meadow. I've heard all of them are a lot of fun to explore. Honestly, if I could rate this place a 1000000/10 then I would!

Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is one of the few places like this that is completely free to…read morevisit. Usually, national parks and preserves charge a fee, but not Tallgrass Prairie. And there's a lot of stuff to see, so you're getting a lot for nothing! You will be walking a bit here, so keep that in mind. Many of the outdoor exhibits are located a walk from each other. Stop at the visitor center first, where you can learn about the ecosystem of the area. You'll find out that this is the only National Park Service unit that's dedicated to celebrating the tallgrass prairie. This preserve is the largest expanse of tallgrass prairie left in the world, and you can see it here! It's kind of mind-boggling that this part of the United States used to be covered with tallgrass prairie, and now ... not so much, due to expansion. But you can step outside and see the grasses that used to cover the land as far as you could see. There are also some historic buildings to visit, which belonged to a family who ran the ranch. You can walk into the barn, explore the house and see the three-person outhouse. (Why would you want to use the restroom next to other people?) This was a very interesting place to visit, and it gave me a greater appreciation for this part of Kansas.

Funny, we came to visit my daughter and we go to Custer's house (Which it is not) and we walk in…read moreand get greeted by a pretty amazing Mary, who gave us a tour and showed us what Custers house would have looked like had it not gone away decades ago. I think old homes are pretty cool and this was no exception. From the lime Stone Walls, to the proper room division to the sort of interesting hair Art (YEP, I said Hair Art lol) it was fun. I Would recommend it to just take in some history it has been around long enough to make you wonder who else walked these same steps I am walking.

My wife and I did a tour with Anderson Scandinavian Tours a couple years ago. The tour itself was…read morepretty good, but the good part was mostly because of the tour guide we had - not so much because of Anderson Tours. The biggest negative issues were in the planning part of it. the owner lied to us essentially throughout the planning phase, telling us that our arrangements were being processed - for 7 months. We finally got our flight itinerary a few days before time to leave. Even then, we weren't given seat assignments, and couldn't get seat assignments until we checked in or paid extra for the privilege of buying the seat assignments. Then, we were booked on SAS (Scandinavian Airways). I will do my best to never travel on SAS again. Their seats are so cramped and uncomfortable, and poor service. The leg room and seat width was like on a regional jet, and the seats were hard. It was obvious that Anderson tours had waited until the last minute to get the discounted bookings. Then, to make matters even worse, he booked us on a connecting flight with 30 or 45 minutes between flights with terminal changes. We made it in time to catch our flight (barely), but our luggage didn't make it with us. Then, thanks to the poor service of SAS, our luggage didn't catch up with us for several days (and we were still on our trip). There was no customer service agent to help us at the airport on arrival. we were given a form to fill out, which we did. After that, we could not contact ANYONE at SAS that would help us, and NO ONE would return our calls. Our luggage just happened to show up on the doorstep where we had been staying (listed as temporary while on our trip) as we were leaving town to head back home. 5 days with no luggage and no communications. They didn't even let us know the luggage had been located and was on its way??? I realize that is an issue with SAS, but Anderson chose to use SAS, and apparently, based on other comments, that isn't uncommon. Also, while in Scandinavia, we had to change hotels at least once or twice, and our tour group had to get split up at least twice - once, the hotels were like a mile or more apart. At least most of the hotels were fairly nice. I would rate most of them 4 star, but I would not rate most of them 5 stars. Also, some of the meals, you have no option what you eat. They bring out the same thing for everyone, and that's what you get. For example, one meal, we got a full rack of ribs - that's it. No vegetable, nothing besides a rack of ribs. Is that a meal??? I have to say though, that at least most of the meals were good food choices, and as I recall, all of the food quality was good. Final item. Be sure to keep your "itinerary" that Anderson sends you when you first look at the trip. You won't be given another one when you arrive for the trip. Since we booked our trip several months in advance, I had forgotten that I had seen an itinerary (very vague and basic) when we left for the tour. I found out when I was talking to another tourist in the group who had brought her itinerary with her. Overall, if it wasn't for the tour guide, I would rate the experience 2 stars. Our tour guide definitely helped a lot. If you don't get as good of a guide as we had, you will likely not be happy.
