This is a hard review to write. I think highly of the physicians and surgeons that I have seen at this practice. However, there is a major issue with quality control, good communication, returning phone calls, and setting appointments. I have tried and tried to get a CT scan scheduled that was ordered by my doctor. It was sent incorrectly and not only did they not return my phone calls, 6 of them over a 4-week period, they did not return the 3 calls from the imaging location. The order was written for a scan of my lefy. I even went into the office and tried to get help in person. My husband tried both her online appointment request and calling for an appointment, and had the same experience. He's waited a month now for someone to call him back. read more

I had knee surgery 15 years ago with a great surgeon at this practice who is no longer there. When I developed knee pain, i returned. Dr. Gruba said "never seen it before, but it HAS TO BE" a delayed tissue reaction to the pin used in your surgery and it will get better. He did no xray--no evaluation. 10 months later as the pain has increased, i went to my GP who couldn't believe that an x ray was not done --he ordered one, and found two bone spurs. Those could have been found had Dr. Gruba done a minimal job with my appointment 10 months ago. What shoddy medical practice. read more

Everything was going fine until I heard the staff outside of my patient room talking and joking about a separate issue that I was having which showed up on my mri results. An issue that has been preventing me from having another child, so it was fairly triggering. So disappointing. read more

Not sure if KC Orthopaedic Institute is a division of Dickson&dively but would encourage patients to seek other practices. Personally have had excellent care with D&D but the urgent care service side is ridiculous. Going on an hour and half wait with a pre online check in. Staffing? Extremely busy case load? Don't know. I waited a full month to see Dr. Santos. He was in and out of the room in 10 min! He ordered labs, which are all fine. I have waited 4 days for MRI approval which only takes 24 hrs with my insurance. I called and was told they receive 20-40 requests per day and I am "in the stack to call insurance company." They don't even need to do this!!! All they need to do is send the orders to the Imaging center! Imaging center will get the authorization. I should have ran in the opposite direction when they send me computer cards to fill in the bubbles with all my information. You are nothing but a number to them. I will get my MRI and take the results to another DR. starting with my family physician. Seems funny he is just as busy and he manages to take the time to respond to emails the same day they are received! NEVER again! read more

Patient care at its worst! Almost impossible to get in to see a doctor and then when you finally do no one seems to care you are in extreme pain. I had pain injections and was told multiple times someone was going to follow up the next day.... no one ever called and I never bothered to go back based on all my experiences, they did however make sure to send a huge bill! Find another practice if you suffer from any kind of back pain, this place does not care about you only your money. read more

Don't go to this practice if you plan on getting professional, responsible or timely care for your pain issues. You won't get an appointment sooner than 4 weeks out and even then it might not actually be with your doctor. Had a medial branch block procedure, which my doctor neither told me the whole truth about, nor provided adequate or consistent information before, during or after. I was told it would be a quick, painless procedure, however as I lied on the operating table, I was crying and wincing the whole time as he continued the procedure without pause. He and the nurses gave me conflicting information on what to expect from it, and what to do following the procedure. But when afterwards I told the medical team that they had caused more damage in my neck than when I walked in that day, they blamed me for the situation. Again, don't go here. They are money-hungry and care-poor. KU Med Spine Center will handle your pain you faster and treat you better. read more

Went in for knee pain and had the best experience from beginning to end. I was greeted warmly at the front desk and was called back right at my appointment time. The nurse took my vitals and was very kind. Then the x-ray tech came and got me and took my x-rays then walked me back to my room all while making pleasant small talk. The assistant came in and got more information from me before Dr Gardiner came in. He was so kind and listened to me. Once the doctor came in he reviewed my x-rays with me and we figured out the cause of the pain. Mine was just inflammation and he stated I could lay off of it and let it heal, I could do thirty days of Advil or I could do a shot of cortisone. I informed him of my bowel obstruction history and not only did he say not to do the Advil, he was truly concerned about all I had been through. I chose the shot because I have had the pain for months and wanted it over. The assistant gave me the injection while apologizing and describing what he was doing the whole time. Don't understand some of the negative reviews. I have had GREAT care from this office, from appointment scheduling through the time of my surgeries. I've had both of my hips replaced with Dr Scott Wingerter. He is AWESOME! He has compassion and an incredible bedside manner. I had both my surgeries done at KCOI ( Kansas City Orthopedic Institute) and the care is impeccable. One nurse to every 2 patients. I can't say enough how good they are. If anyone needs a hip done....see this Dr. you won't be disappointed. If I could give 20 stars I would!!!! read more

Obtaining an appointment for a follow up with Dr. Badwey took me two days due to their ridiculous two tier apt centers and ineptitude. Here's the scenario: DAY 1: 9:30 a.m.: Call for appt. Put on hold for 10 minutes. Asked for basic info and told scheduling group would call me back. 1:15 p.m.: Scheduling group calls me back asking more details and says that don't take Humana Medicare Advantage even they take Medicare assignment. I tell them that Medicare has contracted with Humana to pay their provider fees and that is the plan I have. AGAIN, Humana pays for Medicare charges under contract. D-D-O doesn't get it--"we don't take Humana". Got connected to Marilyn who tells me I can't see Badwey because my insurance is not in their network. I thank her and hang up. 1:30 p.m.: I call Humana. Per Humana, it should not matter to D-D O whether I'm in network or not. That is a provision in the plan the patient belongs to. After review of my plan, it is determined that Dickson-Diveley is out of network under my plan but I'm covered 100% out of network. Humana states that many of these clinics don't understand Medicare Advantage Plans and they assist me in how to work around them saying I will should personally pay for the office visit and then file a claim for refund. Humana tells me exactly what I will need to file the claim and the fact, by law, D-D-O must provide. 2:15 p.m.: Direct dial back to the "scheduling group" to hopefully bypass the first appointment center. No such luck--routed back to the appt. group who take the same information again and they will forward to the scheduling group to call me for appt. DAY 2: By 3:00 p.m. have not had a call back from scheduling. Try to call scheduling desk but get rerouted to the appt desk again. They take my information which is now the third time. DAY 3: 10:00 a.m.: A scheduling person calls me back and when she hears I have Humana says I can't be seen and must talk to Marilyn again. I have them connect me to Marilyn and we determine that I can be a self-pay. She returns me to the appointment desk and we start all over. Long story short--I finally get a call back from scheduling and they tell me I have to talk to Marilyn. I tell them I've talked to Marilyn twice is the past two days but "there are no notes in the file to indicate that". On hold now for 5 minutes. FINALLY, they give me a follow up appt. Bottom line: Jesus Christ is in heaven and I am going to have to chose to have to move to a doctor group who don't think their members are reincarnated. Elizabeth Akard read more

I had a minor foot operation at their Leawood location. Kennesha was my pre-op RN and was outstanding! The pre-op process was efficient and she was very helpful. I was under general for the procedure but it went as expected and the post-op RNs were very helpful and kind as well. Would definitely recommend D-D orthopaedic. read more

The doctors here are top of the line. I've had 3 surgeries with them (both knees and my right elbow) and they are very professional and courteous. I am being treated for back pain by them also and they always go for the conservative approach first before suggesting surgery. I won't see anyone else when it comes to Orthopedics. read more

Went to see Dr. Gardner last October for severe left hip pain. After an 'extensive' 30 second assessment he announced that I had bursitis...even though I presented with none of the symptoms of bursitis. I have enough medical knowledge to recognize bursitis and I told him so. Not to worry, give him a shot and get him outa here....obviously too busy to take a minute for some critical thinking and consider another diagnostic possibility. After 5 months of physiatrists, PT, acupuncturists, and such, I went to see my Primary Care Dr....Tim Pasowicz (great guy), and he ordered the MRI that should've been ordered in October. Lo and behold I had avascular necrosis and not BURSITIS. In the interim I developed a large blood clot in the affected left leg and and threw a very large Pulmonary Embolism which put me in the hospital for several days and I was discharged on blood thinners...which delayed any surgeries for several months. So, if these bozos had done even a little due diligence I would've had my surgery in October. Instead the earliest I can have this taken care of is mid July! I lost the better part of a year with a lotta pain and complications and I am PO'd. The final insult came this morning when their billing department left me a message about a returned invoice. I returned their call within 5 minutes...couldn't hobble to the phone fast enough...and when I couldn't produce my patient ID number on the non existent invoice, they hung up on me. read more

I am an established patient. I couldn't get in to see any doctor in the entire practice in under a month. My condition has gotten worse and I am unable to work - still they will not fit me in earlier under any circumstances. I have agreed to go to any location for any doctor. They will also not fill any prescriptions that may help until I am seen (not asking for anything narcotic- ONLY anti-inflammatory). DO NOT make a first appointment at this clinic. I am stuck because a referral will take even longer at this point but they don't really care about people or their heath. I have been a dozen times with no diagnosis - they only treat the symptoms so that I don't get better and have to keep coming back. I say book with ANY OTHER CLINIC. read more

Actually wanted to comment not understanding the negative review, I must comment someone should clean house on all front of the house staff absolutely rude, called and misplaced my doc paperwork and the idiot on the phone proceeded to tell me there are 72 drs, but I asked for the lumbar Hispanic last name specialist and she was completely oblivious to what that meant, when there was only one in that dept....being Dr. Santos who was cool, walking to the appt I had the formidable feeling that if one more person such as myself seeking medical treatment for a condition was going to be disrespected or insulted as if I were stupid no they were doing me a favor, well to my surprise the spine specialist front desk had exactly the same attitude when I realized I had one item of the paperwork missing, and I was twenty minutes early, she said "oh you didn't bring it" well my response was "REALLYI GUESSS I COULD JUST RESCHEDULE " yes I was ready to walk out the door, oh no your here she said. Dr Gardiner came highly recommended for my total knee replacement. I called the office,when the phone was answered I said I wanted to make an appointment. I was transferred to the scheduling desk. After several rings the phone was answered and the woman took down all of my info (name, date of birth, phone number, insurance info), then tells me someone will call to schedule the appointment. I was somewhat taken aback by this--- I thought I was speaking with the scheduling department. She informs me she takes the info and forwards it onto the scheduler. She is not able to make appointments. I think this strange, but agree. Of course my call is returned when I was in the middle of a meeting and couldn't take the call. They called again later that day-- I was driving and again could not talk with them. I called them back at my convenience and went through the same song and dance-- "I just take the info and someone will call you back". I finally touched base with the actual scheduler a few days later and my appointment was made. I was informed that I would need a credit card so they could bill my card for any outstanding charges. Again I was leery, but said I would bring it for my appointment. Fast forward a few weeks-- due to unforeseen circumstances, I needed to reschedule my appointment. I called the office. The operator asked me if I wanted to reschedule and offered me an appointment time which was perfect for me. Unfortunately she could not put me on the schedule, only the scheduler could do that so I was transferred to the scheduler. A woman answered and I told her I needed to reschedule my appointment. Again I had to give her my info and she informed me someone would call me. REALLY??????? I asked her why she had bothered answering the phone if she was not able to help me. She said she just said helps with the scheduling department and has no way of making appointments for patients, but of course "someone will call you back". No,no, no. Trying to make an appointment at this office is next to impossible. I have do doubt I could get an audience with the Pope faster and easier! I told her I felt their scheduling practice needs to be improved and to inform her office manager that I would seek another physician for my surgery. I have no idea what Dr Gardiner is like, although like I said he comes highly recommended and his reviews are excellent. Only problem is trying to get in front of him. I can understand bring transferred by the operator, however if the next person I speak with is not able to help me-- DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE! You are wasting my time. read more
