Be careful when considering this Daycare. I wanted to write about a personal incident that happened to my son at Diki Daycare, Steinway location. My son who just turned 2 at the end of April, was attending Diki Daycare on Steinway for only 3 months. Over the course of these 3 months, the teacher started writing "incident reports" about my son. They included hitting, pushing, or throwing toys that were hitting other kids. Supposedly. When we asked the teacher, in person, to give us more color about the incidents (they make you sign the report) the teacher would tell us a different story than what she wrote. My husband and I got very concerned about this and also because we do not see this behavior at home from our son. Ever. So we requested to see the camera recordings of these incidents to 1) confirm they truly happened and 2) if there was an issue we would have to address it. Suggestion to watch videos of the events was given by Diki Staff. We requested a meeting, which took Diki Director almost 3 weeks to set up. We finally meet for the meeting and the Director did not want us to see the recordings of the incidents reported. Instead, Director had recorded on her personal cellphone videos of my son playing alone, in different scenarios, insinuating that there was something concerning about my sons' behavior. To which in 3 months, they had never mentioned to us before. We asked again to show us the videos of ONLY the incidents reported, which was the reason we requested a meeting; and Director again denied. After much argument with the Director to let us see videos or else don't write our son on these incidents' reports, Director showed us 2 videos. These videos were recorded on her personal cellphone and these 2 recordings she had re-recorded on her phone. Meaning, she took her cell phone and recorded the footage from a computer. Why not show us the actual footage on the computer? Additionally, both recordings were 13 second clips, and one that showed my son throwing a toy up in the air, came down, hit the floor, bounced and then hit a boy sitting nearby. Not ok for my son to be throwing toys up in the air, I agree, but this was not what was written in the report. The report, which we have copies of, stated the toy was thrown directly at a child's head- which is completely incorrect. At that moment, the Owner of Diki Daycare, call out the teacher for not accurately writing these reports. Clearly, lack of training of the teacher was evident. Furthermore, we requested to see the remaining videos of the reports filed because after that, the likelihood of anything else being true is very low. To which Director, sternly denied to show us. We don't know what goes on in that classroom, we don't know what happened, if anything, how it was handled by the teacher, nothing. And the Director was clearly not wanting us to see what did happen. Of course we are withdrawing our son from this daycare. To note, we had our son and daughter at Diki Discovery on 30th ave, for over a year and never had an issue. However, Diki Daycare, Steinway location is under a different Director. DIKI DAYCARE UPDATE: The caseworker from Child Protective Services informed me that the footage from the security cameras was reviewed and that the aggressive behavior of the staff was observed. She will issue an order for additional training of employees. They cannot see in the videos how the injury to the hand occurred because it happened in the toilet, and therefore they have no evidence of the abuse of my son. I want to let all parents know about our horrible experience with Diki daycare( 3081 Steinway St). Due to their carelessness, our son ended up at the doctor with a report of bruises and ruptured capillaries due to a long period of his arm being stuck. He was in that daycare only twice a week for three weeks and during that period we had several incidents, he opened the safety gate three times and went out with the risk of falling down two flights of stairs, or entering the elevator by himself. Today we reported the daycare at the NYC DOHMH Bureau of Child Care, Child Care Complaint Unit (CU), and an inspection will be sent there as soon as possible. Also, after I called the daycare and told them about the injuries that the doctor found for our son and I asked to review the videos from that day, they said that it was fine, but after I arrived they said that the incident happened in the toilet and that there are no cameras there, I asked to see part of the recordings from that day in the period for which, based on the photos, I assumed that the incident took place and I saw the inappropriate and aggressive behavior of the teacher who was dragging our son and pushing him from one end of the classroom to the other. We couldn't be more thrilled with our choice of Diki Wonderland. Our baby has thrived there--napped better, eaten better & learned more there than he would at home with us. The center is immaculate, & you won't find a more caring staff than the superstar combo of Ms. Bista, Zhane, Taylor & Tashi. They genuinely care about the children in their care, & consistently indulge us as parents by patiently listening to our questions & requests. It's an understatement to say that our child has been doted on, & as a result he is learning in leaps & bounds. The center is immaculate & there's a small roof space which it's said will be made into an outdoor play space next year. They use the Procare app, which allows messaging between parents & teachers, & the teachers also send SO MANY priceless photos & videos throughout the day! Our child starts jumping around in our arms as we walk him up the ramp to drop him off at Diki Wonderland each morning. When he pick him up in the evening, he's always happy (& exhausted). We're deeply grateful to Ms. Bista & the other teachers for their unrelenting effort & enthusiasm! P.S.- For anyone who's wondering, kids stay at this center till 24 months & then the Diki Daycare system has other VERY nearby locations where the go once they're older. read more

So grateful to the caring teachers and supportive administrative staff at Diki. Our two daughters attended both centers in Astoria and I would highly recommend them. The teachers were inclusive and communicative with us, and always had time to talk about how the girls were doing. They also were enormously helpful with potty training, separation anxiety and the regular challenges of parenting toddlers. I'm so glad we had the change to be part of the Diki family. read more

Very happy with Diki Daycare. Their staff is very attentive to children. Our child has been in Diki since he was one year old. We went through all the classes that Diki offers and had an amazing experience in each of them. Besides play time they also have a portion of a day dedicated to learning. Our child learned a lot in Diki. Also they have a very accommodative schedule (8am-7pm). The only thing I wish could be better is more nutritious lunch options. But it is the case with all the daycares in Astoria. You always have an option to pack your own lunch, though. Overall we are very happy with Diki and the staff. Definitely recommend. read more

My son was transferred from Diki Center to Daycare when he was 2 years old. This is the best environment for the child to grow and develop his skills. What is the most important that teachers loves their kids and take very good care of them. Children love their teachers in return. What can prove it better? I chose Diki for my younger son as well. I worked at Diki Daycare Center for 2 years. It was one of and probably the best place I have ever worked. It was very difficult for me to leave. I remember crying when I had to resign, because it was a place I would miss dearly. The children and the staff, are second to none. Ms. Diki is an amazing boss and made sure everyone was good. The environment was welcoming and felt like a big family. Side note: I miss the lunches too. They were real good! To be honest, I fell in love with cantaloupe here, very healthy meal options for the students. It was only because of relocation, why I couldn't work there anymore. If you are looking to work here, this is one place you will never regret working at and if you're looking for childcare, your child will be in great hands. My daughter was originally enrolled at Diki Discovery since the age of 2. I fell in love with the daycare thr moment I walked in as I saw the teachers with the kids in their laps and a lot of hugging. When she left to go to Diki Discovery at the age of 3, I cried as Ms Padma was her favorite person! At Diki Discovery Center, she quicky took to the new atmosphere and the teachers. Ms DD and Ms Yunji became more like family to my daughter. The love and care provided to my child has surpassed anything I could have imagined. Now that my daughter is in Kindergarten, I can see the effect of the teaching done by Ms Karen. My daughter finds her homework "boring" (yes she has homework in Kindergarten) due to the fact that she already learned her letters, sounds and tracing of letters over a year ago. The teachers are more than communicative and although Diki is now completely out of my way to bring her when the public schools are closed, I will continue to send her for as long as I can because Ms DD has truly become part of our family and Diki is a place we call home. read more

My son has been enrolled in Diki Daycare for almost 16 months. I can honestly say that I am EXTREMELY happy with this facility. My son has thrived since his enrollment. The place it clean, the staff is warm, caring and loving. Their program is well balanced between educational and fun. They are very informative about upcoming events and schedules. When the weather permits, they are at the playground. What more could you ask for? We moved and I have at least two daycare centers within 2 blocks of my house and wouldn't even think about switching - it is well worth getting on the Steinway bus daily to make the trip. I really don't understand the 1 star rating a parent gave because I have never had a bad experience. I have never seen "junk food" given and a copy of the menu is posted for all to see. A copy was also given to parents in the kids' cubbyholes. Most of my son's classmates have been there a while as well. If you are a parent looking to enroll your child in a place, do it here. And they are not reliable - they will decide that they are going to be closed and they don't call you !!! You go there and you see that they are closed !!! We loved our experience at Diki Daycare. Our daughter went there from the time she was 3 years old until she had to go to kindergarten. The staff is very caring, nurturing, and friendly. The kids genuinely love the teachers. Our daughter never wanted to leave when we came to pick her up in the evenings. She had so much fun playing with friends and the teachers. We had tried out two other daycares in the area and weren't satisfied with the teachers or the level of attention our daughter was getting. So when we found Diki Daycare it was like a breath of fresh air. We definitely recommend Diki Daycare to other parents. Both of my children, now 10y and 5y went to Diki Day Care from age 2 till UPK and we loved our time there. My older daughter still talks about it and my son misses it every day since he started K this year. My twin boys enrolled in Diki Daycare for 2 years and we absolutely loved it. We had to move from the area but they are still asking for their teacher at Diki. The teachers were so loving and caring, understood children's nature and their world. The education they were providing on a daily base was huge (visiting different places, learning about different job titles, bringing professionals, musicians to the class, as well as all the other activities... ) what else parents can ask. My god daughter is going to this daycare, and she is learning so much. She now counts to 3 and is speaking much clearer.The people who work there are just great. She had a rash on her bottom and they asked about it. I thought that was a good thing. They treated her like their own in asking about the rash. The last place she was in let her sit in her stroller most of the day, and she came home with a rash. read more

My child attended Diki Day Care prior to our move. I thought they were wonderful with her. I had no complaints. I never saw the television on and my child always came home with crafts that they had done during the day. I find this daycare as the one of the best in the neighborhood of Astoria. My wife and I had experienced nightmarish daycares prior to ending up in this wonderful center. The center reflects their strong mission of compassion and calmness the minute you walk in, their peaceful atmosphere naturally adds onto nurturing space for children. My son is thriving since the day one and happy to go to Diki School that's what he calls. The center has open door policy for their families and a great apps with daily report for sent to each family. We moved from Europe earlier this year and found this wonderful, loving, yet structured day care center and preschool. Our son's vocabulary, spirit of compassion and understanding, as well as other skills just boomed within a few weeks of his enrollment. The premises are bright and happy, the children are very well behaved, the teachers cannot be more loving and effective. The children do artwork and some environmental awareness activities. They get to spend time outdoors in a neighboring park. We are unfortunately moving out of town and feel very very sad. I have two older kids who attended a different day care, but this is so much better in all respects. We love you all. read more

My son has been enrolled in Diki Daycare for almost two years now, and is currently in the Bunny class. He loves it and so do I. They provide great care and a very nurturing environment. Each day is packed with plenty of activities that get the kids' minds and bodies going. My son has learned so much there and he regularly comes home with a piece of art that he has created (or a paper with letter he has traced). They also incorporate music into their activities as well as reading books. TV watching may sometimes take place but most likely late in the day after 5 pm after a day packed with various activities. Also, weather permitting, kids are taken to the nearby playground and I have observed the teachers take great care of the children while in the playground. Food is versatile and healthy. I have always received ample notice about any scheduled closings and have received phone calls regarding any unexpected closings. I could go on and on, but in sum, Diki daycare is a place where your child will be provided with great and safe care by loving and caring teachers, and will learn so much. Their nanny placement service is not reliable, efficient, or top-quality. After promising to send me four (4) candidates I received only two: one who was extremely late for the interview (ok, she's new to the area, first time, etc.) and more than 30 minutes late for the first-day (wait, didn't I drive the route for you by my house and show you where to get off the bus?); and the other who came to work hungry and sat down to breakfast with my child, not offering to help me with my toddler, my infant, or the dishes. In fact, she had no infant experience at all. I don't understand sending me someone with no infant experience when you knew I had an infant that needed care, and after telling me on the phone you have plenty of nannies in my area. When I called asking for half of my fee back since they had not fulfilled their end of the bargain of sending me four candidates, she said that one of the candidates told her I'd already found someone. I was flabbergasted that no one called to verify this with me, the actual client, instead of accepting heresay as truth. Not very professional in my opinion. I was also told my fee was good for a year. A year of what? Of you not communicating with me? Of sending me ill-prepared-to-work-with-children candidates? Is not the onus of responsibility on you since I am a paying client? I am a busy mom who paid you to find and screen candidates for me...why would I have time to call you to remind you to do your job?? I would definitely not recommend this company. read more
