I was highly surprised at the service here. Unlike other Asian restaurants, or server Linda was extremely pleasant. She was very patient and attended to our every need with a smile so this was definitely 5 star service I'm not accustomed to. There were so many choices from hot, cold, sweet and savory for dim sum we, a group of 8 didn't get through half of them. Some of my favorites were the pineapple buns & shrimp and crab dim sum. A lot of our choices were on the cold / warm side and I wasn't happy about that. I will definitely come back a day is not so busy so that I can order them and they will come out hot each time. At least, that's my hope. The Chinese broccoli was good but there was barely any oyster sauce but are awesome server did bring us out some more. Before I forget to mention, the tea was good as well. It wasn't too strong and our awesome server Linda refilled it for as many times as we need it. Super excited to not have to drive all the way to DC for some authentic dim sum now. I believe the restaurant is family owned. Interior is cute, clean, and aesthetic. We ordered a bit of everything to try: -bbq pork buns -shumai -sesame balls with red bean -pork spare ribs -beef chow fun -green tea -shrimp and pork dumplings -soup dumplings And a few others that I do not recall the name of. They come around with the traditional dim sum carts and ask what you would like. There was a lady and a man who were super attentive, that we assumed may be the owners. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back once a month at least. The only recommendation I have would be to serve their tea a little cooler or get more heat resistant tea cups. Every time we refilled the cup, we had to wait at least ten min for it to mildly cool down to drink. We usually finish our tea, but left it half full because it was still burning hot. read more

9.30.23 The restaurant is located in One Mile West shopping center where there is a Lotte and Goodwill. It is a very busy center. I arrived at 11am on a Saturday given that I read reviews that it gets busy on the weekends. I was meeting up with a friend so they sat us at a table for two. I believe most of the square tables seat four whereas the round tables seat 8. There is also a separate room that has four round tables. They have carts that are rolled around for dim sum (like tapas). Each item is marked on a card based on the size, small through XL, as well as dim sum and kitchen specials. Alternatively, they have a regular menu for general Chinese cuisine. My friend and I ordered the stuffed eggplant, dumplings, sticky rice, baked pork buns, and shrimp rice noodle rolls. My favorites were the sticky rice, baked pork buns, and shrimp rice noodle rolls. The baked pork bun tasted like a buttered pretzel to me. So yummy. I also purchased the crab meat fish maw soup to go. Our server was great and came around frequently to check on us and cleared our plates. The food is on the pricier side, but I haven't gone to dim sum in awhile so perhaps prices have gone up. We paid $75 for two people. Also compared to other dim sum restaurants, their selection doesn't seem to be as extensive. All in all, I enjoyed their offerings and would definitely return if I had a hankering for dim sum. My second time at Dim Sum palace. I felt like I needed to go again to write a review. The employees are very nice and helpful if you have questions regarding the dishes. The food is delicious. My favorite is the truffle dumplings. The carts came frequently and you can also order on the menu. We ordered the pan fried noodles - see pic below. It was enough for 7 people. Dim sum palace has the better dim sum selection than the other dim sum places in Maryland. Dim Sum palace is located in the Lotte shopping center and big enough that you don't feel claustrophobic. We arrived 20 minutes before opening and were not the first ones in line. We were close enough we knew we would get in for the first dimsum service. Staff were ready and hit the floor running with beverage orders quickly followed by the arrival of carts of food. Pastries were exquisite and the flavors delightful. We enjoyed the following: Crystal shrimp dumplings, Seafood sui mai, Black truffle Shrimp dumplings, Steamed pork ribs, Hong Kong sticky rice, Steamed Bean Curd rolls, Charcoal and egg yolk buns, Baked BBQ Pork Puff, and mango pudding. I am super picky with my dim sum and have been struggling to find a good place in MD/VA (over many years). I'm happy to say this is probably the best place I've tried! Prices are a bit high, and they do 20% automatic gratuity for parties of 6+ - so just be mindful if you're coming with a big family/group of friends. But I guess you get what you pay for! Most things we tried were pretty tasty and good quality - pork BBQ filled pastries, egg tarts, lo mai gai, ha gow, mini ribs, beef tripe, etc. A highlight was the black buns with sweet runny egg filling - really recommend this one. Had an excellent lunch date here with my wife and I can't wait to come back. Walk in and the whole place was hoppin. Loads of people, so it's noisy and there's carts hustling by and waiters picking up empty plates and you hear as much Cantonese as English. While there are menus for you to order from, most of the food will be on the carts zipping around the space. If you decide to wait on something, I think the longest we waited for that particular cart to return was about 10 minutes and in the meantime we could chow down on some of the other things we got. All the food was good. Really nothing bad. While there are a few vegetarian options, I would say those were more rare (that steamed Chinese broccoli [yu choy] was slamming though). The steamed shrimp dumplings were simple but delicious. The pork shu mai was savory and porky. The char siu pork buns and egg custard buns were both delightful with tasty fillings in a pillowy steamed bun. We got some other dish at a porter's recommendation (her favorite), but I don't remember its name - it had crunchy peanuts and savory pork in it. I also tried out the chicken feet (if, like me, you didn't grow up eating this, it's worth a try at least once and there are good YouTube videos showing the proper way to eat them) which were deliciously sauced and well cooked - get your collagen on, baby. A pot of oolong tea to wash it all down and it's a great meal. We were kind of shocked that, after all the dishes we'd tried, it wasn't super expensive, though it can add up fast, especially if you get certain specials (dishes are priced by size and if they are considered a specialty). True dim sum spots are hard to find around here so we were lucky we found this one. I believe this spot took over what was formally foo bao. Overall the service was excellent! Everyone was prompt and all the carts had several items at once. The carts were also easily accessible so you can see and choose the items you want. Sometimes it was challenging as some of the staff did not speak English so if you are not familiar with din sum as the couple next to us were not, it could make for an interesting experience. Nonetheless you really can't go wrong. My boyfriend and I ordered around the same amount as usual and we spend around $60-70 before tip... Here, we paid $95 and the portions were not any bigger than anywhere else. That was a bit shocking and it's also hard bc prices aren't listed anywhere unless you order kitchen items like the rice noodles or the congee. The overall place is huge! Came on a random Friday around 1:30pm, and it wasn't busy so I was immediately seated. Friendly and attentive staff. Not too many tables inside, compared to other dim sum places, so not sure how busy it would be on a weekend. Good dim sum, but there weren't a lot of carts going around (it was also only about an hour before dim sum ended, so that could be why). We were searching for Dim Sum and found Dimsum Palace. There was no dim sum n the evening but we enjoyed several dishes. Per the menu, the Salt and Pepper items were a specialty. We liked the salt & pepper calamari but I felt it could have had a bit more zing. Pork Dumplings arrived crisp and freshly prepared. The roast pork, served sliced, was good but I have had better. I loved it! The dim sum was very good and nothing was too sweet. It appeared clean and I saw an employee wiping down tables and chairs after guest left. The lighting was good and the music wasn't too loud. Improvements: -I think larger tables and a description of what's in each item would be helpful for accessibility. -Customers at the next table had difficulty understanding the server and got a food item they don't eat. Thrilled to have a new dim sum option near Howard County Maryland- land of tiger moms and dads-lol I grew up in nyc so I'm pretty picky about dim sum. This place has a short wait and staff are super efficient at getting people seated. I was with a party of 20 people so we were seated in party room in back- good to know there is an option of a private space. Visited Dimsum Palace today for their grand opening, and we can't wait to be back! We were quickly greeted by the friendly staff and seated right away. The staff were excellent with service and super attentive. We asked questions about the menu and asked for some recommendations. They have a full Cantonese dinner menu and a special Dim Sum menu for lunch hours. They apparently make all of their Dim Sum fresh and in-house each day. After ordering, the food came out quickly! We had the Salt and Pepper Calamari, Hong Kong Style Wonton Soup, Spicy Yummy Chicken and Beef Udon. Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful! I'm so happy to find a new Dim Sum spot in Baltimore. It's actually located in a strip mall in Catonsville. We visited this restaurant on a Sunday around noon. Be prepared to wait if you don't come when it first opens. We waited about 30 minutes for a table for four. We ordered the usual Dim Sum dishes off the carts along with beef chow fun and stir fry water spinach from the menu. Except for the taro puff dumplings, everything was hot and fresh. The food was delicious. The shumai was plump and large. I like that the menu items came out quick and hot from the kitchen. The staff were friendly. It was a little loud but that is to be expected. This establishment looked interesting, worth a try. I ordered Hong Kong noodle soup, kung pao chicken and black pepper beef short ribs. I can't eat shrimp and asked the server if the Hong Kong noodle soup dumplings had shrimp. She said no, just pork. First arrived the kung pao chicken. It should have been listed as zucchini in a hot chile sauce with a little bit of chicken and celery. Not great. Then arrived the soup, with large chunks of shrimp in the dumplings. i couldn't eat it, my wife had two dumplings. Then arrived the short rips...stringy meat in a strange sauce. I couldn't eat it. We barely ate our food, the server asked if we wanted it to go, I said no because of the shrimp in the dumplings. We were charged for everything. I used to enjoy this place, but the quality has definitely gone downhill. The beef chow fun was especially disappointing--the noodles were undercooked and tasted raw, with an unpleasant, unripe flavor. I had to re-cook it at home just to make it somewhat edible. Several of the dim sum dishes also didn't taste as good as they used to, which was really disappointing. The service wasn't great either. We sat down and couldn't find anyone to help us, and even after the food arrived, there was no water or tea. On the bright side, the staff were polite, which is why I'm giving three stars. This is my 2nd time there. Went there last year not too long after they opened and it was packed. We had a large group of about 9-10 of us last year and they seated us in the back room. I have to say, the service was impeccable. It totally felt like we were privately awaited upon that day. The food was good. It wasn't the best nor the worst. And seeing how busy they were, I was both impressed and amazed at how they kept it going on. So due to it's hectic pace, I didn't think too much about it. So today, my family went there again and this time there was 6 of us. We were seated promptly because we got there right around opening. Again the service couldn't have been any better. They were all super attentive and didn't have to ask today for anything. Water? Never needed to ask not once, and we are heavy water drinkers. Now the food. Since it was a little less hectic, I tried to pay more attention to the food this time. And what I noticed was the lack of variety in the carts that were coming around. Between the 6 of us, we got 17 items but we probably could have gotten double that if there were more variety. If the same carts keep coming around with the same dishes, then it is time to go. The other thing I noticed was that the dishes for the most part, were not hot, indeed not even warm. That was the reason we didn't go to a closer dim sum restaurant because I distinctly remember one dish that was served cold. To be honest, I don't even remember if dim sum was served hot at any point in other restaurants, or am I just noticing now? But to be sure, temperature of the food is vital to its enjoyment, at least for me. So, since I really like the service and I know the restaurant is trying it's best, if I can make 2 suggestions: 1) add more variety (to be fair, it may just me us not being adventurous in not eating all their offerings) because I don't remember leaving with the thought we tried everything we liked. 2) serve items HOT. I know its been done before because I have seen heated carts before. Otherwise, the more the dishes go around, the colder it gets. I am sure we will try back again sometime this year to see if anything changes because I do like the place and the people because they are trying their best. It's always so exciting when a new dimsum restaurant opens in the area!! I came with a friend on a Sunday morning to check out Dimsum palace. We arrived early (anticipating a line) and ended up waiting about 20 minutes for the restaurant to open. This ended up being a good decision because by the time they opened the doors the line was fairly long! They had a great system to get everyone in and seated quickly. The restaurant is beautiful and really modern. They were also super ready for the Sunday morning crowd. As soon as we were seated our server came over for drinks and the carts started arriving. Overall, they have all the classics and their carts are pretty well stocked! There was some confusion because I didn't realize some dishes you had to order through the server (I know the kitchen specialties are typically order only but even dishes like cheung fun were order-only). All the food was really good and high quality. The black truffle har gow is unique. This restaurant is definitely a little pricier than others in the area but it is good (I'm not sure if I would go as far to say worth the extra cost though because others in the area are cheaper and pretty tasty IMO). But where Dimsum palace does beat other places is service! The waitress was very attentive and checked on us multiple times. The reason I took off a star is because we were never able to get regular har gow. I kept an eye on the carts the entire time and it was never available (or it was available for a short amount of time but not in time for it to get to my table). I asked the waitress if I could place an order for it and she said she could place a to-go order for it, but if I wanted it at my table then I had to just wait for it to be on a cart, which didn't really make sense to me. read more

Dim sum is available to order anytime, but go to the weekend morning push cart service for the full experience. Vibe: 5/5. Located right of rt. 40 in the Lotte shopping center, Dim Sum Garden took over the old Foodbao location, and did a fully renovation to the space. The restaurant is well laid out, with ample 2-4 top seating as well as a handful of large party circular tables complete with lazy Susans in the center. They also have 2 private rooms in the back for the extra large parties. The tables are intuitively laid out so the dim sum push carts can easily navigate down the center aisle between table rows. Wait time can vary, especially on weekends, but during our visit my party of 2 came at 11:30am on a Sunday and were seated immediately. We watched a line queve up closer to noon, but all were seated in less than 15 minutes. Tables are clean and adorned with your own personal jar of chili oil and soy sauce. Service: 5/5. The staff at dim sum palace were friendly and efficient at getting us our beloved dim. As mentioned before, the host seated us immediately and as soon as we sat down, we started ordering off the carts. Our waitress brought out hot tea upon request and did a great job keeping both the tea and water topped off. The dim sum cart staff did a fantastic job at doing their rounds and keeping the carts full. One thing I particularly appreciated was when you picked out an item, the cart staff would give you a fresh one from the center of the stack vs the exposed one on the top. This guaranteed us hot items each time. Food: 4/5. A very solid entry in the Maryland dim sum scene, with this being one of the best in the Baltimore area. Typically for this calibre of dim sum you need to travel down to NOVA or Rockville/Bethesda. They have all your classic favorites such as hargow, shumai, rice rolls, taro puffs, custard buns etc, but they also offer a few oddities that were fun to try. The black truffle shrimp dumpling is the perfect example. The truffle flavor from the black wrapper worked so nicely with the meaty shrimp filling that we ordered multiple orders. Another fun option was the salted egg custard bun, which had a black and gold bun and oozed custardy filling. My only gripe is the premium you pay for this dim sum experience. Our table of 2 ordered around 10 items and our bill came out to just under $100 before tip. Typically we spend on average closer to $60-70 at comparable places closer to DC where there's more competition. This makes this place from a frequent weekend spot to more of a once in awhile "treat yoself". We've been here several times, basically trying a new dish everytime. This place is a chain, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Prices can be high for the quality and portions you get, but some dishes hit the spot. Our favorites are the Salted Fish & Chicken fried rice, HK pan fried noodles, Char Siu, and sweet and sour pork. We've tried the dimsum dishes and weren't impressed with the quality and the price. One thing I absolutely love is the "coconut cake" which can be described more like a pudding. Reminds of my childhood when we go to dim sum restaurants. Servers have always been friendly and attentive. Only qualm is when they know you're about to leave, the clean up crew come and clear your table before you even have a chance to stand up! There are many small tables and a few large round tables for big parties. Seating is ample on a weekday evening, but weekends can be a bit of a wait. If you have to go to the bathroom, give yourself plenty of time. It's down an obscure maze of a hallway towards the back of the restaurant. Came on a Friday night and decided to try their regular menu since we didn't read the reviews and learn the dim sums are only sold during certain hours in a day. I ordered their signature seafood pineapple fried rice. It was very bland except for the one specific bite where all the salt was hiding. I see other reviews are great for the dim sum, but for their regular menu, I was disappointed. read more

I came here on a Thursday night, it was surprisingly busy. The food was good but nothing to write home about. The service was great. The restaurant looks very nice and is relative clean. The only major red flag for the establishment is that don't accept food from the nice lady that walk by with a tray egg tarts! A server with a tray of egg tarts came by our table and ask if we'd like to try some egg tart and since we were here for dinner, we thought it was complimentary. Turn out it was $7.95 for two tarts...we paid for it anyways since we've liked the tart but it's kinda shady business practice. Hopefully they'll be more clear on this! read more

Thrilled to have a dim sum option in Catonsville! Before this opened, it was either Mai Dragon or Asian Court if you wanted your dim sum fix. Staff was friendly and spoke both English and Mandarin. Decor gives the place a more upscale vibe than the other 2 dim sum spots I mentioned. A little pricier, but that could also be inflation. Wife and I went the Friday after they opened and they had cart service to my surprise, but not all the carts. That's usually just on weekends. We ordered some of our favorites, siu mai, bean curd rolls, turnip cake, BBQ pork buns, pineapple buns, and we tried their black truffle shrimp dumplings which you don't see at many dim sum spots. Some of our other favorites, and here are my thoughts on each: BBQ pork buns: definitely along the sweeter side of most of the BBQ pork buns I've had, but not too sweet to be enjoyable. Siu mai: Honestly probably the best thing we ordered. Compared to the other spots the filling was far more tender. Siu mai filling can sometimes be a little tough and chewy, and some people like that, but here it was very tender. Maybe we got lucky with a very fresh batch. Bean curd rolls: My favorite dim sum item...usually. Unfortunately the batch we got could have used a little more salt, but it was still decent. Turnip cake: Not bad. They definitely fried it more crispy than other spots, which I enjoyed. The texture of the inside definitely felt more finely mashed and seemed to dissolve in your mouth. I prefer mine more chunky and gummy/chewy. Black truffle shrimp dumpling: These were definitely tasty, but nothing really dazzled flavor wise. I get the feeling these are more for the aesthetic. Probably won't be getting these regularly as they are definitely on the pricier end. Pineapple buns: While these were smaller than what we're used to at the other spots, they were PACKED with egg yolk filling. The other dim sum spots usually have larger buns, but have a giant air pocket and only a thin layer of egg filling inside. While these were smaller, the inside was almost completely filled. Definitely one of the better pineapple buns. Also wanted to note that they have good chilli oil, and offer chinese black vinegar on the side which I don't see at some of the other dim sum spots. While this place wasn't perfect I'm thrilled to have a solid dim sum option in the Catonsville area. I'm giving 5 stars since I want this place to stay and succeed. Will be back to try some of the items we didn't get to our first visit. read more

Because we enjoyed our last visit, we decided to go back to try other dishes. We arrived little after 12pm and was told it would be 25 minutes wait. 25 minutes went by...35 minutes went by and then 45 minutes went by. While we were patiently waiting we saw bunch of people who came after us get seated before us. We only had 3 people and we saw bunch of 4 people group getting seated. Once I went to the front and told them we've been waiting for a while, we finally got seated. It seemed like they were prioritizing bigger party (more people = more money I guess). They need better way of managing the wait list. Once we got seated, we ordered some fish congee, beef, pork and shrimp rice rolls, and half roasted duck. We also got Portuguese egg tarts, radish cake, chive dumplings and some other dishes I can remember. Fish congee was good but it had too much ginger and the taste of it was overwhelming. Our pork rice rolls never came out but was charged for it and when we let the sever know, no apology given but did take it off our check. There was no pineapple buns on the carts, so when we asked about it, he said he'll find out but nothing came of it. Overall, food is good but service needs work. Since they're still fairly new I'm willing give them another try in the future. read more
