Well worth the hype! Din Tai Fung is always busy because their dim sum is excellent. Making a reservation here made my experience a lot easier. I booked a 1:45 reservation on a Sunday, and checked in at 1:30. They were able to seat two of us a few minutes early. We devoured our food and enjoyed every bit of it. For dim sum, we got the Pork Xiao Long Bao (5/5) and the Shrimp & Pork Shao Mai (4.5/5). The XLB is a must try! Juicy and delicious. We also got the Vegetable & Mushroom Fried Rice (5/5), which is some of the best fried rice my mom and I have ever had. We couldn't get enough of it. The flavored iced teas were refreshing and not too sweet. I got the Mango green tea. Our server, Ashlynn, was helpful and kindly explained to my mom how to eat Xiao Long Bao, since it was her first time. Nice ambiance and lots of seating and a bar area.

This spot continues to be one of my favorite dumpling spots, and it has never disappointed. Whether I'm meeting up with coworkers, catching up with friends, or having a family meal, it's always a reliable choice. The food has always been is consistent here. A few favorites that I order almost every time are the Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Wontons, Spinach with Garlic, and the Pork Chop Fried Rice. Everything is always delicious, fresh, and flavorful. Be prepared to wait, especially on weekends. Here's a helpful tip that has saved me some time. If you're within about 3 miles of the restaurant, you can join the Yelp Waitlist for parties of up to four before you arrive. Despite the constant crowds, the staff does an impressive job keeping everything organized. The team works efficiently without making you feel rushed, tables are turned over quickly, and the service remains friendly.

There is always a line! Best to come at off hours if possible. We were seated outside, which was great as the weather was nice and it was pretty quiet. So many times when we have been seated outside we have been forgotten, but not here. Our server came to check on us frequently! She was super nice and friendly! The food was as expected and good. I wouldn't say spectacular given the long wait but I would come back when the line is shorter

My colleague and I were here for lunch in South Coast plaza in Costa Mesa for the first time. I believed this the original restaurant before it started expanding elsewhere. I tried DinTai Fung few years ago with my family near UC San Diego for lunch. I am glad Din Tai Fung offers vegetarian and vegan dishes. When we got there, I did Yelp waitlist reservation. We were #61 in line. I check-in with the host to let them know we arrived. The expected time to dine in was 1 hr and 20 minutes. Haha While we were waiting, we went ahead and started exploring the mall. Once I received the text message to check in, we went in line to meet up with the host. The host handed me the paper menu to select the items we wanted along with the pager...to sit. Ordered Chicken Dumplings. $17.00 Chicken Fried Rice. $17.00 Vegetable Fried Noodles $17.00 Pear Lychee Martini. $15.50 Virgin Mojito $6.00 We enjoyed our meal and drinks. We loved handcrafted Chicken dumplings. I kicked it up the notch, by adding the chili oils in all my dishes. Ambiance was nice and clean. Host and the servers were fantastic. There is a parking structure right next to the restaurant. And also smaller parking area close to the restaurant like handicap, charging stations, and to go spots. Overall, we had a great dining experience.

I have been to din tai fung before this was my second time here. I went here for my birthday dinner and it was honestly amazing. Our server Ricky was super nice and friendly and I love how he check up on my sister and I to see if we need anything! Today, we got shrimp fried rice, hot & sour soup, xiao long bao, shaved snow with fresh mango, and chicken spicy wonton. The food was so incredibly delicious, great flavor, and very aesthetic. I would give the food 5/5 it was so delicious and melts in your mouth. The store has a great atmosphere, spacious, and clean. I would definitely come back here if I'm near costa Mesa. There is plenty of parking.

Ding Tai Fung Sundays. Gluten Friendly is a huge plus. This is my go-tos: 1. Pork Shrimp Pot-stickers 2. Pork XLB 3. Shrimp Rice Cakes 4. Brocolli 5. Shrimp Friend Rice Don't sleep on the Pork Chop by itself. The brat washed it down with Jasmine Green Tea with Boba. A lovely Sunday with a friend.

First off I want to give a huge shoutout to all of the workers for being there on Independence Day. I'm sure they would have rather been at home with their families but I really appreciate them making my holiday great. Lupe was our hostess and she was hard at work, while she was checking us in she was talking on her headset to deal with another issue. Once we sat down, I noticed this location doesn't seem to be quite as upscale as another location I've been to. There wasn't that much decor, plus the server didn't pour out the ratios of soy sauce and vinegar for us. These are very minuscule details though and the workers still had great service. I ordered the Lychee Mojito, Cucumber Salad, Chicken Xiao Long Bao, Chicken Dumplings, Mango Shaved Snow with Fresh Mango and the Chocolate Buns. Each item was absolutely fabulous, but my personal favorites were the Xiao Long Bao and the chocolate buns. The Xiao Long Bao is their specialty, so of course it's going to be good. As for the chocolate buns, it's surprising just how great the quality of the chocolate is! The texture was a perfect thickness, and the flavor was deliciously chocolatey without being too swee. I could eat it every day. This was a great Independence Day and I would love to go back to this location.

what??? no wait today! Came at noon on the Tuesday after Memorial Day, seated in the corner, and had our favorite Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings). It had been a while so took the waiter up on suggestions and had a delightful meal. The soup dumplings (1 order chicken, 1 order pork) interspersed with vegetables (cucumber appetizer--so fresh and crunchy; string beans garlic yummmy) & noodles with sesame sauce (the peanut sauce is so nutty and flavorful)...such a rich and varied palate of flavors and textures-- and for the first time the spicy vegan wontons: yum! I love Din Tai Fung! The staff are amazingly friendly, thoughtful, and polite.

Definitely one of my favorite restaurants EVER! I'm always so impressed by their consistently high quality - when you fall in love with the menu items, you can trust that it will taste exactly the same every time you come. Garlic green beans, spicy wontons (or XLB with a side of house spicy sauce), and black sesame mochi XLB are best items on the menu IMO. If you're a chocolate lover, try the chocolate XLB with sea salt cream. Wait times are long so plan ahead. Can be up to 2-3 hours during weekends, but you can join the waitlist online. If you're on a romantic date, try to avoid the back room with windows (where parties and young families are seated).

I've come to Din Tai Fung numerous times. All the way in Singapore as well. I've always enjoyed their dim sum and find the service happy and ready to serve. Watching the kitchen staff preparing all those dim sum by hand is just impressive and mesmerizing! Of course I would always come to Din Tai Fung but definitely not during peak hours! We came here not even 5 pm and the place was already busy. We had Pork Xiao Long Bao, Steamed Chicken Dumplings, Chicken & Mushroom Buns, and the Sliced Chicken Noodle Soup. They were good but just disappointing that particular day. It's probably their texture. It seems the dishes were rushed in preparation. The dumplings were not as soft as they used to be. The chicken noodle soup was bland. And lastly the buns were mediocre. I will come back and give Din Tai Fung another try.

Crab & Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao (10 each)
    Melanie Y.

Crab XLB is amazing!!! Wrapper is so thin and there's so much broth in the dumpling! Absolutely delicious! The crab flavor is there and it's not too harsh and not too little. The service was fast! We went in a Monday at 4pm and got sat right away and ordered our food. The restaurant was so clean and new. ALWAYS ALWAYS get the chocolate XLB! With seal salt cream! 100000/10

Can't go wrong with DTF! All their dishes are always good. Only thing I'd say is their broth for the wonton soup was okay.. could be better. All their other dishes I tried were great.

It needed the sauce of course! Spicy Wontons (4/5): These are solid and the chili oil does pack a lot of heat. I would say they are on the spicier side, just wish there was a little more depth to it. Seven Grams XLB (4/5): Juicy and flavorful! Not the absolute best I've had, but still worth ordering. Golden Beef Noodle Soup (5/5): This bowl right here was amazing. Mapo Tofu (5/5): Yummy silky tofu cubes with the minced meat sauce were delicious in every bite! I had no other complaints, but this dish gets very filling easily. It features a crispy flaky tortilla outside, wrapped around copious chicken (katsu texture), some lettuce for a crunch, some melted cheese, and then a spicy Thousand-Island type dressing. It all pairs well, has a good chicken portion, and texture variation too. My only desire would be for slightly more lettuce and slightly less cheese, otherwise perfect. Crispy Lotus Root Fries are solid, but not a replacement for typical potato fries. The lotus version was not as crispy or crunchy, but would be an Asian version. It comes with ketchup and the same spicy thousand island dressing as the chicken roll. Lastly we were let down by the Pan Fried Shrimp&Chicken Dumplings (Whole Wheat). The whole wheat wrapping had a very slight texture difference, not as chewy as the typical dumpling wrapping. But the inside was the main focus. It seemed like it was a fishball inside, a homogenous color and texture and more reminiscent of fish than of shrimp. It's possible we got the wrong dumpling. Based on this experience we would not order it again. Wheat wrapping would be fine, but the shrimp/chicken filling would be a no.

What happened tonight at this restaurant was genuinely concerning and honestly unacceptable…read more We came here for Mother's Day dinner and immediately had a poor experience with service. After being seated, we waited over 10 minutes before we could finally wave someone down just to be greeted and offered water. The more serious issue, however, involved food safety. My younger sister has a severe, life-threatening nut allergy. We ordered several dishes for our family, and one of the soups we received contained peanuts despite there being absolutely no disclosure of peanuts on the menu. At a restaurant where nut usage is apparently common, that is extremely dangerous. Thankfully, my sister was cautious and did not eat any of it because she was worried about cross-contamination. After we raised concerns, we were told that the dishes we ordered "should not" contain nuts and that the chefs wash their utensils and woks after each dish. However, we also learned they reuse the same cooking oil between dishes. If peanut-containing dishes are cooked using that oil and the oil is recycled back into the same supply, there is still a major cross-contamination risk regardless of whether the utensils are washed. What made this worse was the manager's response. Instead of acknowledging the seriousness of undisclosed peanuts and shared cooking oil, my sister was blamed for "not mentioning her allergy," even though a different employee took our order and the menu itself failed to disclose peanuts in the soup. Food allergies are not preferences. For some people, this is literally life or death. Restaurants that use peanuts or peanut oil -- especially with shared oil systems -- should clearly disclose ingredients and properly train staff on allergy safety and cross-contamination. This situation could have gone very differently for another family.
