It was very crowded but we were able to walk around and check out the local vendors. They had some local entertainment for the children and adults. There was every type of food you can imagine. We opted for a Mexican restaurant (Fatty Daddy) so we could sit down and eat in the AC, lol. I bought some little "Brooklyn" souvenirs and some sweets. I actually enjoyed this fair better than "Atlantic Antic" because it wasn't overly crowded. Definitely something I would check out again.

I typically hate NYC street fairs, but the Fifth Avenue lived up to its name!…read more Unlike some other fairs, where it's all the same sausage and peppers on every block, the Fifth Ave Fair puts a big emphasis on local businesses, with most of the food options coming from those storefronts! There was also a live band, lots of random stuff to buy (mostly jewelry and clothes). I set up station by the Letter of Marque Theater space and watched/participated in some awesome soundpainting and improv performances! Go support them! Also devoured a ton of pizza, and had more than a few beers from Nunu Chocolates. I love drinking in public! The fair also extended pretty far down! From almost Flatbush all the way down to the numbered streets!

So many restaurants featured their dishes here. I won't go through and list all of them here, but as soon as I walked in, the first bite was a curried scallop and it was perfect. The night just continued with so much great food and we also got a lot of free stuff. Some foods weren't that great; however, there were like 30 different restaurants so if you don't like a few that's fine. I would definitely go again. Make sure you go when you are hungry, because you will be stuffed.

Great time again this year (2025) at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo…read more The admission fee was $15 online ($20 at the door) for general admission. There are higher tier admissions which include beer, food, hot sauce and merch. Although public transportation is usually the way to go in and around the five boroughs...Industry City is right off of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (278) and the parking lot there (Parking Lot C) is only $6 (at least on Saturdays) when booking online. The Expo is in buildings 7 and 8 with the entrance on 34th Street. After checking in by presenting your ticket/QR code, you proceed to the expo. The Expo has lots of vendors selling hot sauce and were more than happy to provide samples and tell you a little bit about their sauces. I found hot sauces ranged from $8-15...with the majority being $12. Some vendors had other items including dry seasonings, jerky, dips and marinades. Keep in mind to pace yourself and know your limits while tasting...you don't want to start off the hottest stuff first which would screw up your taste for the rest of the expo/day. The center stage is where the (very entertaining) competitions take place. There is a schedule...it was on the hour from 11am - 5pm if I remember correctly. Hot donuts, hot wings...and bobbing for reapers!!! There is a beer/liquor stand in the corner of the expo area. There is a center Courtyard area with some outdoor space. There is a beer/liquor stand there, some vendors (pretzel and louisiana hot sauce) giving away some freebees and a few food vendors as well. I was there from about 11am and left at 2pm...and I have to say that there was a big crowd difference as your approach 1:30/2. If you want to avoid the crowds, I would suggest going early on (maybe 10-1) and then exploring the rest of Industry City after as there are tons to see and eat there. As it approached 2pm, it was a bit challenging to move around, let alone getting to each vendor's tables to sample hot sauces. Overall, I had a great time...especially as a fan of hot sauce. The environment, vendors and crowds were all great and it was more than worth the price of admission. All staff and vendors there were super friendly and helpful.

The 18th Avenue Feast, in my opinion, is the Brooklyn annual pre-game to San Genaro. Over the…read moreyears, the feast has become smaller, and seemingly shorter in duration. I've never had a bad experience, but it's not what it used to be. As I'm older now, to allow my daughter to have some fun. Some rides, a few games and some quality food. After a year off, due to Covid, it's made it's return. I'd suggest if you have small kids, it's better to go earlier in the day, before the teenagers and adults come out.

Today Jen and I went to the 9th Avenue Food Festival. This was my first time in many years that I…read morewas attending. The sun shone brightly and it was hot. Jen had a watermelon juice and I drank a Horchata which was the first time I had it. Both refreshing and delicious. $7. The majority of the food stalls were Mexican and Caribbean. We both had the peril empanadas which was stuffed with meat so for $5 it was a steal. Jen took a kielbasa and I had a single cheese burger from 5 Napkin Burger. The meat patty was tasty but the bun was cold. Lots of restaurants had set up open air seating or table grab and go. We walked all the way from 42nd to 57th Street. From what I remember this festival used to be chock a block with lots of food stalls. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves. Port a Johns were at every block which made it convenient for those who drank a lot. Music at some food stalls was lively and who can resist shaking one's hips to the stellar music from Michael Jackson?

Finally got to check out an Alamo Drafthouse for a showing of the new Knives Out movie, and I get…read morethe hype! This theater is a bit hard to find -- you have to take the escalator in the big office building down two flights to find the entrance. Once you're inside, though, the theater is such a vibe: very hip, retro, with fun posters of niche films. Plus, there's a huge DVD rental library called "Kim's Video" right at the entrance, presumably named after the iconic video and music retail store, that has a bunch of movies you can borrow for FREE! You can also rent a DVD player for a small fee. The "Kim's Video" selection continues on the floor below, too, so the selection really is huge. The theater itself is nice and clean. As others have noted, the seats do recline partially, but not all the way, though they are comfortable and plush. I didn't order food, but my partner got a burger and a Modelo, both of which he enjoyed. The service was prompt and efficient, and really didn't distract from the movie at all. I also appreciated the strict no talking and no latecomers policy, since I've been in some rowdy theaters before. The commute home is incredibly easy if you take the 1, 2 or 3, which has a station in the same building (though I don't know if it runs on weekends). Only downside is the tickets are on the more expensive side -- about $24/person after fees.
