I must say that the staff are incredibly friendly , and I was very impressed by their turn around service. I found it very easy to get an appointment, often even on the same day (which can't be said for their store in Cardiff city centre) . As for the decor (always important in my book). There is a lot of green (to be expected of course), but I found it pleasant, and also light and airy. It should also be noted that this branch like most Specsavers is well staffed, which thankfully keeps waiting times to a minimum.

It took over 4 weeks for them to get my glasses together and considering I was left without a pair of specs, this was definitely a tragedy. In the interim waiting period, I visited Penarth to have a look at their frame selection. They seemed to have a good variety of styles but again, there isn't a large selection of more top end designer frames. The staff were polite and friendly and when I explained the situation with their sister branch, they nodded sympathetically but did nothing. It's a good shop, some of the frames are gorgeous, but the staff really don't seem to be on the ball.

Value Vision offers really good value... I guess that's why it's called Value Vision! I'm not sure…read moreif coming here would work out cheaper than using the excellent services of Spectrum Discount Glasses Ltd on Carlisle Street in Splott, but I'm sure that the price tag wouldn't be far off the mark, especially with the special deals that they are doing for NHS customers at the moment. Value Vision are presently offering more than 50% off the usual price of all frames, single vision lenses and bifocals at the moment. I even noticed a sign advertising free sight tests the other day as I cycled passed, but I'm unsure if this comes without strings attached. I know that by law an optician has to provide the client with a written statement of their prescription after a test. This could quite feasibly mean that you could have your test here and then go somewhere else for you glasses. That is, of course, if there's no prerequisite conditions affecting the offer.. which I guess there must be, or how else would Value Vision make their money? I'm looking to change my glasses even though I only got them at the beginning of the year. I've not been happy with them since I got them and so clearly I don't intend to go back to the same shop for a second pair. Friends have recommended both Value Vision and Spectrum Discount Glasses both for quality and price, and so it's simply a case of committing to using one of them. I was impressed by the level of service that I received when I went into Value Vision to make my initial enquiries. The staff were really helpful and explained that I could make major savings through using their service. I checked out the frames that they carry, and was impressed by the range. I could definitely see myself in quite a few of the options available.

There's little to choose between the two in terms of professionalism and services offered, but I would say that Beresford Opticians are more focussed on meeting everyone's needs than their competitors, in that they provide comprehensive eye care for everybody, not just the well heeled. It's simply a question of positioning. Beresford Opticians pitch their business to all, and Stewart Greenburg Opticians are more into their designer labels and soliciting businesses from wealthier patrons. Like Stewart Greenburg Opticians, Beresford Opticians is an independent practice, but they actively welcome both Private and NHS patients. They also carry an extensive range of designer glasses and sunglasses, but it isn't as comprehensive as the range that you will find at Stewart Greenburg Opticians, who claim that they could very well stock the largest selection of designer frames at affordable prices in South Wales. I like Beresford's. They have one outlet, and so all of their energy is focused right where it's needed. They have spent some time considering the look of the place, which is modern and funky, but most of their efforts are centered on their customers.

It provides a highly personalised service employing optometrists and dispensers. They also offer the latest in frame and lens technology from the world's leading manufacturers. Modern and comfortable, the shop interior boasts an extensive selection of designer and non-designer frames and sunglasses. The testing rooms all have modern equipment and the majority have air-conditioning for those sweltering Welsh summers ;) What happens during an eye test? Let me talk you through it. Firstly their eye examinations include a discussion about any history and symptoms you may have and a check of any glasses or contact lenses you may already be wearing. Next, opticians will check your vision with and without lenses for near, far and intermediate distances. They will assess the strength of each eye, and will check the eyes external and internal appearance to detect any early signs of conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts. Their opticians will advise you if they have detected any problems and will also offer advice on the best type of lens frame or contact lens best suited to your needs. Finally at the end of the eye test you will be handed a copy of your prescription. Like to be a bit on the flash side with your face accessories? Stewart Greenberg Opticians has one of the largest selections of designer frames, all at more affordable prices, in South Wales.
