The Disneyland Resort area in Anaheim really feels like its own little world. Between the two parks, Downtown Disney, and all the nearby dining and hotel options, there's always something to do no matter your mood. I like that you can be fully immersed in Disney magic or just pop in for a meal or some wandering without committing to a park day. Everything is walkable and lively, which makes the whole area feel energetic but still easy to navigate. It's one of those places where you can tailor the experience exactly to what kind of day you want.

Who doesn't love Disneyland?! Well, I've actually met some people but I am not one of them. I friggin' love The House of Mouse which is why it is mind boggling that when we visited in March 2024, I hadn't been in over 20 years! I spent my childhood into adulthood at Disneyland for multiple school and extracurricular group trips and it just never got old. Even after all of that time it still felt so familiar but also fresh and new with all of the changes since my last trip up. We walked about, rode some rides, ate some yummy food and snacks, had delicious cocktails (which that was different and kind of odd to do) in the Cantina, posed for a plethora of photos, sat and people watched, and had a truly relaxing day. I'm excited to go back this year to visit the updated Haunted House and Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Always a pleasure, Disneyland!

Took my kids here for my birthday and I can't say it disappointed. The only bad thing I would say is that I paid for the lightning pass for each of our tickets extra a day. It was well worth it. I did wait more than 15-20 mins if that. You have to reserve times but I'm ok with it. Overall it was one of the best birthdays I've ever had, especially being with my family. We went on every single ride, and multiple times. If you come to Disneyland, understand that you're going to spend money for a great time. The memories are worth it.

Had a great time with the kids and grandkids. I wish they would just focus on the fun and joy they bring to families. We tried a few different rides and experiences this time we visited. All the things we were able to do were fun and they did not disappoint. Have a great time with the kids once in a while.

It is named the happiest place on earth for a reason! I love both parts, the hotels, and even the Downtown Disney area. The resort as a whole is a must see vacation destination in my opinion! The best spot for me is Walt's Apartment to see a piece of history of the resort and walk in Walt's footsteps.

Ask the Community - Disneyland Resort Area

Can I wear any pair of boots or shoes?

If you never been. Disneyland is a large resort. It requires a lot of walking from Parking to the entrance, California adventure and Disney side. Wear comfy shoes that are good for walking.

Will Disneyland Resort Reopen on July 9?

    Yes they will

How much is it to pay the one day pass at Disneyland and Disney California adventure on the same day?

It depends on the date. From $104 to $149.

Is this resort more than $1000 a for 2 kids and 2 adults?

That really depends on how many days you want to be at the park, and what tickets you are buying, and where you decide to stay and, if you choose to eat in the park or outside the park. There are many variables to your question.

From the…read moremoment you walk into the stunning lobby, you're surrounded by beautiful Craftsman-style architecture, soaring ceilings, warm wood details, and an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and welcoming. The rooms are immaculate, and the entire property is exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The grounds are gorgeous, the staff is consistently friendly and helpful, and every part of the hotel feels thoughtfully designed. One of my favorite things to do is simply relax in the lobby by the fireplace and listen to the piano player. The ambiance is incredible and makes it easy to slow down and enjoy the moment. The pools are beautiful, clean, and comfortably warm year-round. The waterslide is a lot of fun, and the pool area is a great place to relax after a long day in the parks. Craftsman Grill is another highlight. The food and drinks are consistently delicious, and I love trying the seasonal specialties whenever we visit. And if you only take one food recommendation from this review, make it the arugula pizza. It is SOOOOOOOOO good and something I look forward to every trip. Of course, one of the biggest perks is the location. Having a private entrance directly into California Adventure is incredibly convenient, and you're just a short walk from Disneyland as well. Being able to return to the hotel in the middle of the day to rest, enjoy the pool, grab a meal, or simply recharge before heading back into the parks is absolutely unbeatable. The Grand Californian perfectly captures the magic of staying in the Disney bubble. Once you're there, you never really have to leave the Disney experience, and that convenience adds so much to a vacation. Between the beautiful atmosphere, exceptional staff, immaculate rooms, fantastic dining, gorgeous pools, and unbeatable proximity to both parks, the Grand Californian remains one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. All that said...it is VERY expensive Sso its definitely a once in a while splurge.

The theming was incredible, I loved the outdoorsy atmosphere and Chip and Dale cameos throughout (we need more Chip and Dale/Grand Californian merch!). My only criticism was that I would have preferred the sink being in the restroom with the toilet and shower rather than outside the sliding door.

My one complaint is, there was a bit of a mix up at check in. Our rooms were not quite ready so we received keys and were told we would get a text when the room was ready. The room we were promised was going to be overlooking DCA where we could watch world of color from our rooms. At 3:15 pm I still hadn't received a text so I walked over. It turned out a room never was never linked to our keys and the room we were promised was no longer available. We got one overlooking the parking lot instead. I thought they would have offered something for the mix up on their part but all I got was a "sorry ma'am". Such a major disappointment! The elevators are also incredibly small and it can take forever to get down from your room but it was a small inconvenience at best.

The…read morecheck in process was easy and we got a ton of great information, and some souvenir buttons for our first time (and another one for my birthday!). The room itself- for the price - was really plain, we thought. But it was really clean and the best part was the direct access to the pool terrace! Our toddler had a great time at Dug's Dance Party! We were also just steps away from where we could watch the fireworks at night - so that was great! As for the not so great, the pool area was a big letdown. The actual pool was tiny for a hotel this size. It was packed and there were no chairs available either. There was a cute offering for toddlers called Nemo's cove, but again, really small and absolutely packed. And also located right by a slide that looked so much fun for our 3 year old who was repeatedly heartbroken we kept having to tell him he couldn't go down it, or play in the water at the bottom of it either. The splash pad was nothing like what I would have expected from Disney either, just a few sprinkler fountain type things. No wading area, or bucket that dumps, or water wheels, or anything else we have grown accustomed to seeing at places that cater to kids. This could really use upgrading and more chairs. Definitely wasn't the way we had wanted to spend the afternoon relaxing while he played and we had a drink or two, but it COULD have been, which makes it disappointing! And lastly - the elevator situation. Wow. Up until this visit, I had never in my life spent more time waiting for elevators. They were full, they were slow, there were lines...it was horrible trying to entertain a 3 year old who didn't understand what we were doing just standing there. And, let's be honest, no fun for the adults either! Definitely there needs to be more of them, and faster ones, for a hotel this size. The last two issues were more minor, but still worth considering: 1) no valet parking, and 2) the club lounge has soda but no bottled water, and they close at 8pm without access later for drinks. Summary: we are very glad we went and experienced it, but next time we will pick somewhere else to stay. This is the most money we have ever paid for a hotel, and we have stayed at VERY nice properties, so when you spend a certain amount of money there are just things you kind of expect from it and this wasn't quite there. We learned what you really are paying for, is the location!

While it may not be somewhere we'd go or come.. for a vacation, it's definitely worth visiting for a day. The only negative experience we had involved an employee named Stephanie who was working the family raft slide. She came across as though she genuinely didn't want to be there. It didn't ruin our visit by any means, but when you're in a family-focused environment, a friendly attitude goes a long way. Also, during one of our turns on the family slide, the wait was noticeably longer than it should have been compared to all of our previous rides, which slowed things down a bit. Definitely a bit miss managed as it seems as 1-2 employees max were bouncing back and forward to push the rafts down. Something that popped into mind free of charge lol. One suggestion for the marketing team: consider giving away complimentary waterproof phone pouches. They cost only a few dollars at retail store ( Walmart ) so I'd imagine they could be purchased in bulk at a much lower cost. Guests would use them throughout the park, and many would likely take pictures and post all over there social media as I saw almost every partner with one,I know I did and will posting family pic and already have all the family said they'd want to come..giving Great Wolf Lodge free advertising and great brand exposure every time they're used elsewhere. It seems like a small investment that could create a lasting impression. Overall, a solid 4-star experience. We'd come back again.

The front desk staff had difficulty locating our original reservation, which created unnecessary stress after a long day of travel. At one point, we were nearly charged for an additional week's stay because of the confusion. Although the issue was eventually corrected, it left us questioning the hotel's reservation process. Before our trip ended, we decided to book an additional night so we could enjoy one more day at Disneyland. Despite extending our stay, we were told we had to move to a different room rather than remain in our existing one. This meant packing up all of our belongings and moving everything--including luggage, strollers, and our children's items--in the middle of our vacation. While we understand room availability can sometimes require this, the process was handled with very little effort to make it easier for our family. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. On multiple occasions, we called the front desk to request luggage assistance, only for our requests to be forgotten or never fulfilled. We either had to call back or ultimately move everything ourselves, which was especially difficult while traveling with two young children. Throughout our stay, customer service was consistently disappointing. The front desk often came across as unfriendly and unwelcoming, and it frequently felt like our requests were more of an inconvenience than an opportunity to provide good service. Our biggest disappointment came on our final day. We requested a short extension to our checkout time, fully understanding that late checkouts are never guaranteed. However, the request was met with little empathy or effort to accommodate us. A courteous explanation or even an attempt to help would have gone a long way, but instead we were simply told no, leaving us feeling like guest satisfaction wasn't a priority. The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, and conveniently located near Disneyland, but exceptional hospitality is what separates a good hotel from a great one. Unfortunately, the repeated service issues, poor communication, and lack of hospitality overshadowed what should have been a memorable family vacation. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and invests in improving the guest experience so future visitors receive the level of service expected from a hotel of this caliber.

They loved the added decorations, and it really made my 2 littles want to stay in the room "forever"! The door was wrapped in Baby Shark decor, which initiated the excitement as soon as we walked up to our hotel room. We arrived really early in the morning to check-in. They allowed us to park early and enjoy the parks until room was ready. We also lucked out with being able to have our room ready earlier than expected. Text message notification made it nice for updates. Also, if you door dash, they hold it in the lobby for you, which is really nice and convenient! On another note, they don't allow visitors to park on the property since they make guests a priority and do not allow visitors to access the pool. We were staying multiple days and had family that wanted to come visit us at the hotel, but we had to adjust our plans! So, we didn't make it to the pool like we had originally planned. I definitely give it a 4/5, because we didn't experience the pool and couldn't pay for the second vehicle, but we would stay here again since it is close to the parks and is a nice and safe walk across the street.

Not kid friendly :…read more We booked a last-minute stay at Howard Johnson by Wyndham specifically because my grandsons (ages 7 and 4) love swimming and water parks. They were incredibly excited for this trip. The hotel did accommodate our request for a downstairs room with a pool view, which we appreciated. However, when we entered the room, there was a strong musty odor mixed with what smelled like urine. We assumed it may have been related to the carpet and chlorine exposure, but it was not a pleasant first impression. The main reason we chose this hotel was the water playground. When we arrived at the pool area, the attendant reviewed the rules, including no running and that my 4-year-old, who was wearing a padded swim vest, could not use the larger slide. We completely understood and respected those rules. As expected, two young boys were very excited to be there. I stayed close by and occasionally reminded my 4-year-old not to run. After a while, I noticed my 7-year-old sitting alone looking sad. When I asked what was wrong, he eventually told me that the attendant had blown her whistle and yelled at him for running. I explained that the rules were for everyone's safety, but he told me, "The whistle scared me. She could have just told me again. I'm just a kid and sometimes I forget." Throughout the afternoon, I repeatedly heard the attendant blowing the whistle and yelling "Stop running!" across the pool area. The moment that really changed our experience happened when my grandson was walking quickly toward the large dumping bucket. I was standing right next to the attendant and watching him the entire time. He was not running. Nevertheless, she blew the whistle again and loudly called him out. He immediately sat down, lowered his head, and looked embarrassed. At that point, I calmly explained that the whistle was frightening him and asked that she simply speak to me if she felt his behavior needed correction. I was supervising him the entire time and standing only a few feet away. What disappointed me most was the impact it had on my grandson's experience. As we were leaving, he told me, "Lala, let's not stay here again. The pool wasn't fun because I was scared to walk fast or get excited. I kept looking at her the whole time." Safety rules are absolutely important, and I support enforcing them. However, there is a difference between ensuring safety and creating an environment where children feel intimidated. We came specifically for the water playground, and unfortunately the experience left my grandson feeling anxious instead of excited. The room issues were disappointing, but what truly affected our stay was how uncomfortable and self-conscious my grandson felt during what was supposed to be a fun family outing. Because of that, we would not choose to stay here again.

The property is clean, the ambiance is beautiful, and the staff provided great service throughout our stay. I loved that they offer amenities like valet, bell service, pool service, and room service, yet the prices are still very reasonable. There was also plenty of secure parking, which gave us extra peace of mind. The hotel is located next to the freeway, so I was a little concerned about noise. However, I was pleasantly surprised that I couldn't hear it at all from our room. You do notice some freeway noise at the pool, but they play music that helps minimize it, and it didn't take away from the experience. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely return. Highly recommend!

One of the main automatic doors on the lobby level leading to the pool area was not functioning properly, which should have been addressed for both convenience and guest safety. In addition, we called the front desk in the morning to request clean towels, but no one answered after multiple attempts, which was frustrating and not what I expect from a hotel of this caliber. The pool area was also extremely overcrowded, making it difficult to relax and enjoy the amenities. While I understand holiday weekends can be busy, better crowd management would have significantly improved the guest experience. Unfortunately, this stay did not meet the standards I experienced during my previous visit. Unless there are noticeable improvements in customer service and property maintenance, this will likely be my last stay at this location.

First off the location is great for the parks, it's a doable walk when your feet are still fresh but if you're too tired they have their cute little trolley that drops you off and picks you up from the parks once an hour. It's a very quiet hotel, i've never had any noise issues staying there. The rooms are always clean and the beds are super comfy. Another plus is the A/C's always work great and since they renovated they're in the ceiling so it cools a lot more evenly. They've got a pool and hot tub plus a small wading pool for the little tykes! They've really stepped up their continental breakfast as well. Lots of choices and great things to grab for snacks later inside the park. The staff is always phenomenal and friendly. From front desk, to maids, to groundskeepers and security guards everyone smiles and greets you when walking by. We like a specific area of the hotel and they almost always honor that and are very personable. The price is pretty comparable to other ones in the surrounding area when you factor in parking fees for them. My family is usually willing to pay a little extra for that Candy Cane Inn charm. More affordable than any Disney branded hotel but still that great Disney level customer service.
