The answer is the community and staff. The staff actually love our kids and love their jobs, they all know my kids by name and are extremely in tune with their needs. Everyone from the top down makes you feel like you are family. The principal has been with the school for 20 years and the way that she leads the staff is so impressive. It is just a very special place. My kids often thank me for switching them to East Lake. When I ask why - their answers say it all. I feel that our children are surrounded with love when they walk in the doors. This school is a hidden gem.

In our particular case at the Riverwoods, IL location, with only one parent teacher conference months before stressing a few correctable problems, were the director's tone was very optimistic, it was a surprise to later hear that our child is no longer welcomed. When we were told of the expulsion, the director's response, which felt more like a lecture, was very cold. We were given 7 business days, that also happened to be during a major holiday week were schools are closed and providers are unavailable/limited, to find a new care provider. The director's handling of our situation was irresponsible and disrespectful. Perhaps, if she would have suggested and worked with us to create and document a mutual plan, provide progress reports and establish a clear channel for communication, we would have had a different outcome, (or at least a better understanding and respect for how they acted.) Happily, we found wonderful care for our child who is thriving and well adjusted. I would never recommend this provider and ask other parents to reconsider placing their child under the supervision of this director.

My son participated in the 8-week summer intensive about 8 years ago. I have been meaning to write…read morea review for a long time but needed some distance in order to think clearly about it. At that time, I paid $1,580 per week + $645 for an evaluation or $13,285 all together. I am not the type of person who could afford this at all but I wanted to get my boy the best early intervention to get him on track. My son struggled a lot in Kindergarten with reading and writing. When attempting to read, he would look at everyday words as if for the very first time--he just could NOT get the sight words and to this day struggles with memorization. The director at LMB noted that he could see what a bright boy I had and he believed the program could help bridge the discrepancy between his bright mind and his reading/writing abilities despite the fact that they could not determine the exact cause for my son's difficulties. The Deerfield center had a very positive ambiance and my son happily spent much of his summer there. By their evaluation tools he made great improvement. Unfortunately, this progress did not carryover into his schoolwork when fall came. Don't get me wrong, I believe to this day that I was dealing with good people at LMB. The LMB director offered at one of our last meetings to come to my son's IEP meeting (Highland Park school district) and talk to the school team on how to carryover the work that my son did over the summer. For my part, I should have been a better advocate but I was overwhelmed by the situation--watching my bright and confident boy become increasingly frustrated by school after the intensive intervention and then also struggling to pay back my loan for LMB tuition. It took me sooo long to pay it off. My advice to LMB in Deerfield is make follow-up calls to clients. Be invested in your clients. For the price tag you're charging, you ought to.

About us: Hard working blue collar parents of 2 kids and one more on the way in July 2022. Our daughter attended Goddard Deerfield for over 1 year and we initially enrolled our son to start in August of 2022. Problems: The owners of this location, Jane and Genia, consider your child a walking dollar sign and nothing else. They will put the economics of getting every dollar out of you rather than creating a safe environment for your child or respecting any of your parental concerns. The situation and response: Goddard's AC system had broken during a 90+ degree week. Goddard has no extra classrooms so their response was to have the children in the classroom at that temperature for 30-40 mins at a time. We decided to not send our daughter to school until the AC situation was fixed due to extreme heat and ventilation issues that could lead to spread of COVID (my wife is currently pregnant with a high risk pregnancy). The AC repair took over 9 days and no surprise, there was a COVID case in the classroom during this time. This left our daughter out of school where we had to pay for additional childcare for 2 weeks. We reached out to the owners for a credit of our tuition for the time and that is when Jane's true colors showed. Over a phone call a screaming and angry Jane claimed: -"AC breaking is an Act of God and that they had to pay $5,000 to repair it so they are not liable." -"It builds character for children to be in that heat because life isn't always perfect" -When I told her again that my wife was pregnant and our own doctor said this an unneeded risk. Jane claimed "COVID is overblown and it's just an excuse now. My sister in law had COVID during her pregnancy and was fine, so your wife shouldn't be worried" We were so shocked by this response. After that last bizarre call, my wife had a 1-1 in person conversation where Jane took ownership of the things she said but the damage had been done. We knew our daughter would not be safe in their hands and that ownership would potentially target our children. Even worse ownership behavior: Our daughter stopped attending Goddard in June and our son was enrolled for upcoming August start - we asked what the process is for terminating enrollment and how we would receive our refund of enrollment fees and they took that as an opportunity to immediately cancel his enrollment, keep the enrollment fees, and take money from another family to fill his spot. Not only did they not return the money, they cancelled his enrollment and filled his spot in a breach of their own enrollment document/parent handbook. We now have to consult a legal expert to recoup our fees. I am a small business owner myself and would never ever target or leave a negative review unless it was 100% necessary to warn others. There are other schools in the area that will look after your child, look elsewhere. During the last few months of dealing with Goddard I felt like a failure of a parent to have not seen the other red flags and cannot believe I allowed my child to be in the care of Goddard Deerfield. The worst part of it all is that this is all I know about, what about all the other things that may have happened while my daughter attended school here that owners with this character may have put their own business in front of my child or any child? If you think maybe this is a one off situation and your child could be okay, Google search "Goddard Deerfield Indeed reviews" to see how their own teachers review the school. Before coming to NCA, my child attended two of the top public school SPED programs in the area -- from push-in to pull-out services, and even self-contained classrooms. Unfortunately, not all students can thrive in their home school environment due to challenges like integration with the general education population, the level of support needed, and the availability of specialized staff. After doing extensive research on outplacement options, I chose NCA Palatine. Like any major transition, the adjustment took time. I questioned myself, the district, and even the NCA staff on more than one occasion. But every time, I received reassurance, thoughtful feedback, and clear action steps that led to real, meaningful improvements. Success at this school truly depends on collaboration between all parties involved, and the staff here genuinely understands that. They actively seek family input and value parent perspectives. Class sizes are small -- typically no more than 10 students -- with one teacher and two program assistants. Beyond the classroom, there's a strong team of support professionals, including multiple therapists, behavior specialists (RIS), and an outstanding administrative team. The teachers are absolutely wonderful, the food is spectacular (my daughter would constantly rave about the food), and the environment itself is VERY clean and child friendly. In addition, the curriculum is great! They provide group instruction that is fun and easy for the children to pick up and they also provide individualized and small group instruction for children who are at a different pace. They attend to each child and take notice of what they know and don't know and provide instruction based on that. Children's Land definitely prepared my daughter for school. She went to kindergarden being able to read, write, and her math skills were certainly more advanced than at the kindergarden level. Other great assets to the childcare is that they teach music, dance, art, Russian, and Spanish! Overall, our experiences at Children's Land have been great!
