This restaurant was a nice surprise for us. Wandering into Shelby MT around 8:30 pm we were surprised to find several eatery's open including this one. I was a bit suspicious until I tasted their fresh salad. Further, the hostess-waitress made sure we understood the "stated and unstated" aspects about the menu. We had the 36 oz. prime rib using the split meal option: look into it --- you will be glad you did. It's terrific! . Go for it! PS ... this place is located in the area/complex near where the Pilot, Pizza Hut, KFC and other eateries are across the street from the Comfort Inn in Shelby just off of I-95 (to the right if you are headed north --- about 1/4 mile from I-95). read more

Good, solid food that you might expect to find in central Montana. I had the Dixie chicken breast, which was delicious. Others in our party had steaks, and they were all pleased with how they were prepared and tasted. As another reviewer pointed out, the salad bar was great. Even the wine list was solid. This is pretty rustic looking from the outside, and that view doesn't change when you get inside. The service was really good. Glad we got the server we did. read more

Full Bar , A Bombay martini under 5 bucks= Win Good hearty food. Great waitstaff, Our server has been working there for 28 years. Retro 40's -70's decor (non intentional but cool) Surprisingly well appointed salad bar. If we ever pass through Shelby we will eat here again. read more

Hand breaded home made chicken fried steak. Decent salad bar. Wait staff is polite and attentive. Decor is a bit dated and atmosphere and lighting are dark. Regardless, will get a good meal and a good time. read more

The "dining room" part of the Dixie Inn is called Clark's Family Style Restaurant. My visits so far have been for lunch or dinner with friends. They have a typical diner-style menu, but the food was very good and the staff was very friendly and attentive. read more

Stuck in Shelby on our way to Canada. This place had good reviews so we went there for dinner. This place is NOT where you want to eat. We got odd stares from the staff (outside smoking cigarettes in front of the restaurant) on the way in, and rude comments on the way out. The waitress was really nice but pretty spacey and made several mistakes. Food was very plain, (we got pasta x2, veggies, and a steak sandwich, no one was happy). The place was also eerily empty, other than the local half-dozen regulars or so, who literally insulted my group to our faces for being "not from around here". Not a pleasant dining experience. Worst part is, we're not sure there are many other better options in Shelby. read more

This restaurant is great! It's right off of the main exit and the food is amazing. The host and server was great. The food was amazing. I called a friend from the area when I was getting into town and asked her what she thought of place. Great recommendation. I'm from Iowa where beef is king. I didn't think a town like Shelby, Montana would have a steakhouse. The atmosphere inside is dark and lots of dark pink which surprised me a bit. Looks old too. The salad from the salad bar was fresh and had quite a large selection of dressings. Nice job there. The steak...oh my goodness! The steak was the best I've ever had. I've been to restaurants that look more upscale and the waiters use their fake French or British accents to make you feel like you're in an authentic *insert Ethnic location here* eating establishment. And since we're talking about wait staff the one waitress there was very friendly and made sure you had everything you needed. I ordered my steak medium rare and they got it spot on! The perfect amount of pepper was used and the steak came with horse radish and au jus sauce. While it looks old from the outside and inside, you will not be disappointed with the food. Okay, not to disparage the previous reviewer from Iowa, but to say this was the best steak they've ever had....they must not get out much?!?!? I'm not going to spend any time on the dated decor as I don't mind how a place looks as long as the food is good. I'm being kind to say the food was atrocious. The ONLY pleasant part of my experience here was my waitress, she was very nice and checked on our party often. I asked what the most popular dish was and she said they were known for their prime rib. I ordered the prime rib with hash browns and the salad bar. The salad bar was so-so and the lettuce looked like it had been sitting there for a week. It was the best part of my meal, which isn't saying much. The "famous" prime rib was easily the worst prime rib I've ever had in my life. It had no seasoning to speak of and was very tough. It had a weird taste and didn't look right....very gray?!? The "hashbrowns" literally almost made me vomit. It didn't resemble anything edible and the one small bite I took made me gag. I have no idea what on earth it was. I don't know if they changed cooks from when the other reviewers posted, but I would stay miles away from this place if I were you. I just moved to Shelby and will NEVER be eating here again.....absolutely disgusting. My final complaint is the price.....my meal was over $30 and if they offered me $100 to eat there again, I wouldn't do it.........it was that bad. read more
