I should have called in my order, but it was a last second decision to swing by there. Fortunately, they've repaired their speaker box in the drive through lane. The strawberry cake was delicious, and the fries were seasoned perfectly... Unfortunately the taste of food is not the only thing rated for quality. I had a problem with a few things : 1) The actual cooking staff did not wear PPE (face masks) while preparing the food until I mentioned they weren't wearing them (we're in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic). 2) The wait time was ridiculous. We ordered our food via the phone, but it still wasn't ready after traveling the 25 minutes we traveled to get there, because they had apparently given someone else our order by mistake. 3) The woman they had answering the phone for the orders was often distracted. She was nice, but she had messed up our order over the phone. I love supporting black businesses, so I was excited to support this restaurant. I know the owners are natives of the area, which means they have local experience and know what's good in the city ... and to be honest, the food definitely sells itself! Little Petals pops up on Yelp as a possibility. I read the reviews and scrolled through the pictures. After looking at the location, I realized it was only an 8-minute drive from where we were. Why not, right? The restaurant is easy to miss. It sits right on the corner in an old shanty building nestled in the middle of downtown Memphis. The furniture and décor were of a standard Chinese eatery, nothing special; but the employees were warm and welcoming, greeting me with hellos and smiles. I got the black pepper chicken that came with a spring roll. I ordered an extra side of pork egg rolls because that's usually my go to. Everything was fantastic! It gives you the taste of that old school Chinese food you used to have as a kid, but better quality. The chicken was moist, flavorful and peppery. The egg rolls had the perfect amount of crispy crunch---they seemed handmade as well! Pricing is a little higher from when I was a kid, but you still won't break the bank here! I ordered it anyway, but I substituted mashed potatoes instead of fries. My colleagues both ordered fries with their orders. My fish came out with fries instead of mashed potatoes. The fish was a little overdone in the fryer. The fries were done but didn't look bad. I mentioned I had the mashed potatoes. Our server recognized the mistake. She said she would be back with mashed potatoes.... But instead she came back with an empty plate and TOOK THE FRIES OFF MY PLATE. I'm like um ok I mean I didn't order them, but what the heck?! One of my colleagues' plate came out a few minutes later, and it looked like the same fries..... ok so they clearly accidentally gave me his fries. But then they put them on his plate after they took them from me?! Then the other's came out with fries but it was clearly a different batch that weren't fried so much.
