First off, you will find a vast and constantly changing selection of antique and vintage home furnishings and decor- cabinets, hutches, shelves, accent tables, kitchen ware, a dizzying array of baskets in all shapes and sizes - which the the kind owners gather as they hunt estate sales, flea markets and the like. Most of these pieces are American made, all are handcrafted and one-of-a-kind. Some will have been lovingly restored by proprietor Damien - who also crafts new pieces and can do so to your specifications! We recently bought a house in the area and are slowly making it our very own. I'm in need of a short shelf/hook rack, which might easily be obtained as a cheap piece of crap from Walmart mass-produced in communist China - or I'll pay a few dollars more and have one handmade right here in Ohio. Take a guess which I've decided on. In addition to wood crafts, proprietress Shannon makes personalized T shirts, coffee mugs and koozies with a great selection of designs to choose from. Still don't see something that grabs you? No worries, bring your own design and she'll make it happen. They say you can't always get what you want but that doesn't seem to apply here! Something here for everyone and great gift ideas too. Any unscheduled closing (doesn't happen often) is posted on their facebook page, so if you're making a special trip might want to check that first- or call. My other tip is, if you see something that grabs you- grab it now! I highly recommend you get over to the Workshop.

Not only that, but they always have items on sale either 50% off or 99 cents each. The color changes weekly so it is fun to go there to see what I can find. Also, they don't have bags so if you have extras, bring them in so they can put them to good use for other customers. AND they are always nice.

I didn't have a lot of time today as my husband was with me and he is not much of a shopper. So imagine my disappointment when last October I went hunting for an apple orchard in the greater Cincinnati area only to discover every single one had sold out of u-pick apples by the end of the first weekend of the month. Um, what?! So this year I was determined to get my apple picking in, even if that meant going in the second week of September. Which I did, right here at Monnin Fruit Farm. This place is out in the country as it should be and has a great variety of apples to choose from. When we went, the honey crisp were already nearly gone, but they'd just opened up the winesap rows. We got some of everything, from Fuji to golden delicious to macintosh. You buy by the half bushel or the bushel; prices aren't posted but this year the half bushel is $20. Cash or check only! Be sure to check out the store as well. On our way out we grabbed a dozen free range eggs, some apple butter and a bag of toffee. They've also got local milk, meat products and other produce. Monnin gets high marks for 1) actually having apples, 2) posting u-pick information on Facebook, 3) their awesome store and 4) knowledgeable staff. Minus one star for a confusing map/flag system for identifying apple varieties, and only two sizes for buying apples. Didn't really need a whole half bushel but you can bet I filled that bag! Would be nice to pay by weight or have a smaller size. Overall, this place scratched my apple-picking itch. Great way to kick off fall. Now, who's ready for apple pie?

It is also a coffee shop, and it looks like it could be a mellow place to hang out for a while. Not too much happening on Central Avenue - but it would be cool if this were the start of life coming back to downtown Middletown!

Additionally they have housewares, decor, seasonal items, jewelry, toys, and a small selection of books. There are no returns, not even for a store credit, but I'm pleased to report there is a curtained off try-on area. The proceeds go to a charity that helps local people in need. They run a food pantry on certain days out of here as well but that does not affect the rest of the store. The staff are all volunteer and they do a good job. Sometimes you may need to exercise some patience. I like to browse here from time to time as I might score somewhat really good; it supports a good cause; and it is not Goodwill Incorporated.
