There's plenty of places that don't charge cover (although "better" clubs do tend to charge cover). All is fair in love and booze here at Inferno. Drinks are made with GENEROUS pours. I'd recommend getting two vodka shots if you have $R20 to blow. The theme of the night was neon paint party. There were small pots of neon paints that we had a blast with painting our faces/bodies Music is great! Loud where it's a bit difficult to talk, but you can still do it. It's def no where as loud as a favela rave where you can feel the sound waves vibrating your organs. Drinks were pretty standard to clubs in LA/NY and came it plastic cups... although they were larger than cups I'm used to? The dance floor is pretty long and the bar is towards the back. I really like that Brazilian way of charging everything on a card and paying at the end before you leave for the night. Somehow you can spend more time dancing at the club than waiting for drinks. The music was pretty decent, but definitely picked up after 12AM... However, they turned the lights on and kicked everyone out a little before 2AM... Buzzkill! My friend Marco H. and I were originally planning to barhop and check out some clubs near Avenida Paulista, but since it was #1. a holiday (people don't have to work the next day) and #2. Brazil had just played and gotten crushed by Germany in the World Cup), I think the Brazilian people were in the mood to go out and have a good time. After walking up and down some street littered with bars and clubs, we concluded that it would be a waste of our time to get in line and try to wait gain entry. Instead, he recommended we go to Vila Olimpia (a trendy district) to check out a club called Royal. For those of you that know me, I like clubs haha. Wherever I travel to, I make sure to check out the nightlife and clubs are usually near the top of my list. Royal was indeed a club and it was really nice and trendy as well. It wouldn't have been out of place in places like Los Angeles or New York. The music was mostly a mix of EDM which I enjoy and some Brazilian songs thrown in intermittently. There wasn't a cover per se, but upon entry, you are given a card (kind of looks like a hotel room key) which acts as currency. When you go to the bar and order drinks, the bartenders will scan the card and your tab is organized via that card. The catch was that you had to spend 200 Brazilian reals which comes out to approximately $85 in US dollars, but I had a great time and it was a blast. The girls inside that club were gorgeous and Marco H had a good time laughing at me while I was gawking at the Brazilian women. An interesting quirk about the club scene in Brazil is that while lots of girls come to dance and have fun, the culture is very different than that of the states. Guys really don't dance. They just stand around and hang out (which I'm sure the girls appreciate because I've had girl friends complain about creepers who try to come up to them and grind with them), and when they do approach a girl, it is to initiate a conversation. Being a "gringo", I broke convention by happily fist-pumping and dancing to the music all night.
