So my wife and I was in Salisbury and I was thinking as we went past DJ's we had not eaten there in quite some time. So we decided to get a bite while we were in the area.My wife wanted the coconut Shrimp. I decided on the wings. I just about got the Lasagna. It's all ways been good over the years. I had a salad to go with my wings. Salad was fine. My wife wanted the sweet sauce for her coconut shrimp but it came with some other dipping sauce. Which neither she or I liked. Her Coconut shrimp were cooked that had it been a piece of meat it would be Well Done. There was no sign of coconut on the shrimp. And the dipping sauce wasn't even good. My wings were cooked to death. I was rolling them in the wing sauce to possibly give them some moisture. They were cooked dry I was having to wash each one down with my beverage. As we sat there talking to each other about how disappointed in our meal. I called our youngest son to see if he and his wife had eaten there in a while. And his first remark was we sure have a the quality of the food had gone down in flavor and quality. Not sure if we will get give DJ's another chance or not. DJs is a popular spot but not one I've been to before. We went primarily because they have a well defined gluten friendly menu and it's even marked on the menu which is a very nice feature. I got the pizza which was very good but the whole menu was both wide ranging and tasty looking. We also got a salad which was large and well prepared. As I mentioned, they have a decent selection of gluten free options and take the time to mark them so you don't worry (the fries are not for example, but you don't have to wonder). Wife and I were out and about and hungry so we decided to hit DJ's in Salisbury. We've been there numerous times over the years. It was a late lunch so it wasn't crowded. We were seated promptly and greeted by our server. The place was clean and well-lit. I opted for the Reuben and my wife got a chicken Greek wrap. The fries we got were well-seasoned and hot. My chips were exceptional. All crispy with no half raw floppers. Great job. My wife's wrap was prepared well and assembled without everything spilling out when you take a bite. Bravo! Don't you hate it when that happens? She said it was delicious. My Reuben was very good with one small drawback, it was swimming in dressing. The corned beef was tender and delicious. Visited DJs Restaurant off of Innes for lunch. There is plenty of parking around the side. Seating was relatively easy and service was good until the end. The French Dip had too much cheese in my opinion, on top of the bread. The krinkle style fries were a nice touch and the au jus dipping wasn't salty. First off let me say, the food is good. We live out of town and like to go there and eat. We finished eating and the waitress took our money and came back with the receit. She gave my husband a receit and put a note down in front of him and said one of the waitress asked me to give you this. Disappointed. Drove from East Rowan to eat at DJ's tonight. We were greeted at the door and promptly seated. After we were seated we waited at our table for ~15 minutes and were not acknowledged again. No drink order and no server to come by and say 'I m busy and will be with you soon in a few'. We discussed other dinner options near by and settled on Hendrix down the street. The three of us got up and walked to the door leaving our menus and wrapped silverware on the table. We said "we'll see you next time. " to the hostess, that seated us, behind the register. She was very polite as she replied ok, see you later. I came on a Saturday evening and the parking lot was completely full. I ordered for take out and circled the block and came back to find a parking space. Upon walking in, I was "greeted" by a man who was smoking a cigarette. I glared at him but didn't have the guts to tell him there's no smoking indoors. I couldn't find an employee to let them know of the situation and when I left the smoker was still there. There was very loud music playing. I'm glad the take out area was in a separate area with a door. Otherwise it would have been difficult to communicate. The employee who helped me pick up my order was nice. They made sure my order was accurate as it was placed into the bag. While picking up my food I had a partial view of the kitchen area. Most employees were not wearing masks (as mandated by law during the COVID-19 pandemic. The employee who was helping me did not wear a mask or gloves, although a plexiglass divider was on the counter. The food was not as good as I had hoped. The crab and shrimp dip had an oily slick on top and didn't have much flavor. The dip didn't have much crab or shrimp flavor and tasted mostly of cream cheese. The Caesar salad was average. The lettuce was still wet when I ate it so I would recommend the restaurant to try to dry the lettuce more thoroughly. The fettuccine Alfredo was also average. It could have used more flavor but it was still edible. Thankfully the sauce that came in it wasn't as oily as that of the crab and shrimp dip. The crab soup was flavorful and hearty. It was my favorite thing I ate. It reheated well for the next day. I will give this restaurant another try. I will definitely order something different. Our alcoholic beverages were reasonably priced and well executed. We had the fried greem tomatos appetizer which was mostly delicious. We were in town for a baseball tournament and I always like to try new places, and saw a really great outdoor area, so we stopped after to eat and watch some Sunday Football. Burgers were great. There aren't a ton of lunch options in Salisbury. Working nearby, I've tried several, and wound up back at DJ's for lunch with coworkers. I'd been twice before and had unfortunate experiences with larger groups, but I figured that with just six of us, it should be fine. Narrator's voice: It was not fine. There are gluten free notations on the menu, but they're few and far between and uninspired. I opted for the Farmhouse Burger with no bun. The menu description is: "10 oz ground combination of beef and bacon, topped with two fried eggs, applewood smoked bacon, sliced red onion, and mayonnaise." The only alteration I made was to hold the bun. I was served a pale patty with just bacon and eggs on top. Upon further inspection, it was a turkey burger. Did someone in the kitchen think I was on a health kick by skipping the bun? And that I didn't want the beef and bacon patty? And where TF did my onions go? I slid the eggs off the pallid patty and had what amounted to bacon and eggs for lunch, for $12. Also, half of my fries were wet, for reasons unclear. Our server seemed to be one of only two working on Friday lunch. She never came back to check on us and only offered refills when she brought our checks, which sat on the table next to ours for several minutes. She seemed surprised that we collected and distributed the checks ourselves instead of waiting for her to hand them out. The server added a 20% gratuity to all of our checks, since we were a group of six. She added a drink to my order that I didn't ask for. When I pointed it out, she disappeared for a moment and came back with two dollar bills, saying something about "voiding the drink would cause problems in the computer." It's worth noting that DJ's has a cashier. A person whose job it is to make the checks and settle the balance. But voiding a drink I didn't order was too much to ask. One of my coworkers examined his check to see that his bill was $15 and the added gratuity was also $15. Another in my party noticed that she had a drink added to her bill, too. One of the women had a side of ranch added that she didn't ask for. So, is something shady going on at DJ's? Or is that incompetence? Some weird kind of Salisbury math? I won't be back to DJ's. The people cooking didn't wear a mask, most waiters didn't, and the manager himself didn't...Service is slow, you only get rolls if you ask for it (but don't forget to ask for fresh ones or you'll get brick style rolls). We started with spinach dip with some dry nachos and old pita, then we ordered a vegetarian meal that had canned mushrooms in it, uncooked green peppers, and basically fresh onion.
