Can I give this place minus-20 stars?…read more My debit card got ripped off not long ago, and I had to have a family friend mail my a personal check so I could have some cash to live on while my new card was in the mail. My bank account balance was less than $2, and my work schedule is such that I can't get to a bank to make a teller withdrawal anyway--it was either cash the check, or starve. So, the check arrived Tuesday night, and Wednesday, I went down here after work to try to cash it. Nope, sorry, can't do it--can't cash a personal check without a phone number to verify it. I didn't know the phone number, so I had to scramble to get home. Home, for me, is Silver Spring, and taking the subway was out of the question. I had to scramble up to Ballston Mall, hop on the bus, and pray that I made it to 16th Street in downtown DC before my transfer time ran out and I was forced to walk. I made it...but not by much. I had to beg on the street for my next day's bus fare: I literally had no cash to commute on, and as for food? Hah! So,I eventually got home and got the phone number, wrote that on the check, and went back on Thursday afternoon. The same clerk who told me to pound sand the day before was in the back, on a long personal call that sounded like a script for a good soap opera, and she kept the conversation going as our transaction started (EXTREMELY unprofessional). She said she couldn't cash it THIS time, either. Apparently, the computer wasn't working--likely excuse!--and because it was after 6 o'clock, nobody from the bank could verify the check. NOT, I should add, that she made any attempt to actually CALL the bank--heck, she could have just pretended to call, gone through the motions, acted like she'd gotten an answering machine, and I wouldn't have been the wiser, but even THAT was apparently too much effort. Oh, and the phone number for the check writer that she sent me away the prior day to go get? She didn't even try to call THAT number, either. So, okay, thanks for nothing, and here we go again racing to 16th Street and hoping I won't have to walk for seven miles to get home. Now, fortunately, my new bank card was in my mailbox, so it worked out in the end, but only by accident. There is no way for me to describe the mental anguish of having to beg for bus fare while carrying a $100 check that I couldn't cash. I hope I never have to do business with this establishment again. "Caveat emptor" isn't NEARLY strong enough. "Avoid this place like a bad case of syphilis" is probably a bit closer to how strenuously I'd urge you to avoid this place. Given the choice between trying to cash another check here in an emergency, or doing janitorial work, I would gladly choose to clean every single toilet in FedEx Field. WITH MY TONGUE. Yes, this place really is THAT bad. NEVER again.

It takes over an hour to set up a simple student account? Pathetic . The best and most expedient Suntrust Branch I ever went to was the one on Main Street, Annapolis. Those women were fabulous and they closed that branch. Banks have to be the next thing for technology and AI to revolutionize. Incredibly painful when you have to actually walk into a branch!

My payment was due on the 1st and they started calling my house on the 3rd. They proceeded to call everyday until they filled my whole voice mail box. I have had mortgages that I have paid off and many cars over the years plus many student loans. Needless to say, I called them to give it to them. If you want to feel like you borrowed the money from your friend that lives paycheck to paycheck then use this bank. You can go to a check cashing place and get your check cashed for less. Are they so desperate for customers they think if they charge so much your gonna say "yes -- let me open an account!" I have been charged at other banks $5 or $8 but never $14 -- completely ridiculous! I would never open an account with PNC and I recommend you don't either!!
