I see how this can be a major problem if you are trying to reschedule. But the tree removal specialist was here on time, did an awesome job removing out tree completely mess free, was polite and courteous. I really enjoyed the whole thing. No complaints. Awesome service! I feel so good about the choice to use them. My husband loves having a live Christmas tree each year. We carry it home on foot from a nearby seller each year, as our car cannot accommodate it on the roof. As such, I must admit my husband usually breaks down the tree into pieces and puts in the dumpster every January. This year, it was important to me to start recycling the tree in a way that's better for the environment. Cue DTRT! We chose curbside based on their availability. Next year we may reserve a home pick up ahead of time. Their web form was very clear and payment was easy. I later received a text message confirming the pick up had been complete! We have used the Christmas tree pick up the last three years and it's wonderful, eliminates the hassle of tying a dead, dry tree to the roof of your car and hauling it precariously down to the park. Do the Right Thing picked up my Christmas tree from in front of my house for a small donation of $15. I was more than happy to pay this to have some one take care of this chore for me. My emails to the organization, with questions about the pickup program, were answered promptly and I was able to organize the pick up with relatively short notice. They also offer to wrap and take the tree out of your house for an additional suggested $5. So happy to support the community and have the tree easily taken off my hands. read more

These guys are always amazing. This is my 3rd year using them consecutively, and year after year, they deliver great service as promised. Adam, one of the owners/managers, is also very kind and pretty good at communicating via email if you have questions or need to reschedule a pick-up (as I had to this year), but make sure you email him at least a day or two in advance if doing so. They get pretty busy right after the holidays, so try to have some flexibility and patience. I promise, it's worth it! Please don't forget to add a little extra donation money to your tab. The service guys that pick up the trees are SO nice, friendly, hard-working, and diligent (this year, the same guy picked up my tree as last year. Pretty great!) I always try to donate at least $5 extra to the cause, because I support tree recycling, as most Christmas trees end up clogging up landfills thus not doing the environment any good. We will be using this service every year! I stumbled on this service from the city's website and so glad I did. We a quick appointment over the phone for a time frame. A very polite man came to our place (within that time frame) and took our Christmas tree with no mess. The worker came in, sat a tarp down, laid the tree on it, cut it in half with a hacksaw, wrapped it up completely, and was on his way within 15-20 minutes. We probably kept him as long from talking to him, because he was such a nice guy. There was barely any needles on the floor and the only work we had to do was take all the ornaments off. This is my first year using Do The Right Thing! Recycling and I'll definitely be using their services in the future. I scheduled an in-home Christmas tree pick up yesterday evening for 8pm. The individual arrived early and was very polite. He brought a giant tarp to remove the tree from the base and even picked up from fallen tree limbs. $25 to come into my home, neatly pack up my Christmas tree and haul it away to be recycled? Yes, please! Just had my first experience with DRT and I was very impressed on many levels. My boss tipped me off to this service yesterday, so I completed the form and emailed it last night. I got a reply almost immediately, and as luck had it, they were going to be in my neighborhood today. They even arrived 15 minutes early for the two-hour pickup window they gave me. The two men who came to my place were very professional. They wore the little paper shoe protectors so as not to drag any dirt into my place (seriously, what's a little more?), quickly and neatly wrapped up my tree in a tarp and then offered to vacuum for me. My tree was supposed to be picked up 5 days ago and is still here. Such poor communication and customer service. Follow your company's name and do the right thing! I attempted to support this nonprofit organization, and reached out to Adam Goldstein and Oliver Santos to arrange our tree pick-up. After several attempts (some of which were out of Adam's control because of the snow days), I ended up giving up. It was nice that Adam was willing to extend their services although I was outside of the "service area," but the end result was disappointing. I spent a substantial amount of time arranging to get a pick-up, but never received a return call or reply email to reschedule. When your potential customers/supporters reach out to support your organization; it would be courteous to follow through or follow-up so that they can manage their expectations and seek alternate plans if need be. Also, it would be great if you could extend your service to the Hyde Park/ Bronzeville area. read more

They were in and out of the house in less than 10 minutes and did a fantastic job. I first discovered Do The Right Thing! Recycling in 2017 when I was looking for a way to get my Christmas tree picked up and properly recycled. Living in downtown Chicago in a high rise apartment building without a car makes it a challenge to properly dispose of my Christmas tree. In the past, I have left my Christmas trees on my apartment building's back dock in the hopes that it would be picked up and recycled, but instead, I would usually find it placed in a trash dumpster to be thrown in a landfill. It broke my heart knowing how much joy my Christmas tree brought me and then to see it simply tossed aside in the garbage made it even worse. After finding Do The Right Thing! Recycling, I felt better knowing my Christmas tree would be brought to a designated recycling center to be properly recycled and repurposed. The team is great and is always accommodating when it comes to my Christmas tree pick up. I am forever grateful to this organization and the service it provides. Do The Right Thing! Recycling is a local not-for-profit that offers a fantastic tree recycling service! For a $20 dollar donation they came to my house, wrapped my tree in a reusable tarp, and recycled it. No mess in my elevator or my car, and the tree will be turned into mulch instead of crowding a landfill...double victory!!!!!! The two gentleman who did my pickup today were right on time at the beginning of my 2-hour window, efficient and polite, and they even had plastic covers to put on their shoes when they got inside so they didn't track snow into my house. I have never written a review (on yelp or anywhere else yet), but I have to do it. DTRT recycling is one of the most efficient businesses I have ever experienced. I was looking for a solution to recycling my tree. I simply logged online, paid my $15 for pickup and took the tree to the curb the morning of pickup. I was nervous as I drove onto my street that night, but sure enough the tree was gone. AND...I found a sweet ornament on my door (made of recycled trees)! Great service. read more

Update - they finally returned our call on Monday and apologized, even offering to refund our money. The gentleman explained that they were very shorthanded, but promised to pick up the tree within 24 hours. This morning, it's gone. So they did handle our complaint, eventually. You can schedule an appointment for your Christmas Tree to be picked up right from your home. They are flexible and have always been reliable to come on time with their own supplies (tarp, booties to cover their shoes) to efficiently remove the tree. There is no mess, no needles, or hassle of removing the tree (much appreciated by our condo building management staff!) I also feel better knowing that the tree is recycled rather than in a dumpster. I've recommended this service to several friends & co-workers and all thrilled with this great service.
