The foster I was in contact with told me to reach out anytime if I had questions, so I asked whether she had noticed it before the puppy was transported up north. She said no and then completely freaked out, telling me "now she's really upset," as if it were somehow my fault that the puppy developed a stye. Of course, I brought the puppy to the vet the very next day. $249 later, the vet said she was otherwise fine and prescribed an ointment, which cleared the stye in less than a day. I also brought a stool sample to that appointment. Low and behold, the puppy tested positive for Giardia. Treating that cost another $144 for both my new puppy and my dog because they had been together since I brought her home, which I believed was safe since we were told the puppies were "quarantined." All of the adopters from this litter were in a group chat with the foster parent, who asked us every single day for three days if the puppies were okay and whether they had diarrhea which now makes perfect sense. Another puppy from the litter also tested positive, and only then did the foster admit that one of the puppies had already tested positive and treated before adoption. Not a single adopter was informed of this until our puppies were already infected. Instead of acknowledging that we should have been alerted that our puppies were exposed to a highly contagious parasite and that all puppies have been treated proactively, she deflected responsibility and blamed transportation. It's clear she does not understand how contagious Giardia is or that her entire yard is now likely contaminated. She also informed us that she currently has another litter of puppies who in my opinion are at risk since soil is contaminated for 2-4 weeks even after feces has been removed. This is absolutely irresponsible behavior and shows zero accountability, and at the end of the day regardless of treatment we had the right to know they was contact with this parasite instead of hiding it.

I had…read morepreviously had my family dog for 15 years and about 2 1/2 years after she had passed my friend at work happened to send me a picture of an adorable Shar-Pei mix from One Tail at a Time that needed a home (Meri was her adoption name). While I was not "looking" for a dog, I have always been an avid animal lover and once I saw that picture I couldn't help but look into the rescue more and this puppy !! Needless to say, the staff at One Tail was informative,helpful, and amazing with their animals. Their adoption process is detailed and may take a few days longer than others, but it is due to the fact that they research and make sure each dog goes to a great and well fitting family. I was impressed that when they asked for references they actually followed-up with each one I gave!!! Which to me means not only did I take the time & put my heart into this process but they did as well! Once I received word that my application was accepted they scheduled the pick-up at a local pet-store. When I arrived they had informed me that my pup unfortunately needed to stop by the vet first since she wasn't feeling well that morning. While I was a little sad I had to wait a couple extra hours to get my little puppy home, I was so happy they took the time to make sure she was happy and healthy before sending her home! And they even offered to keep her an extra couple days at no extra cost to make sure she was ALL SET, I did however take her home that afternoon and she has been an amazing addition to my house ever since!! (for the past year :) ) One Tail is a great organization and the volunteers and employees really care about the animals they are placing, it's not just a first-come first-served situation. Great Experience overall and I would recommend (and have) using them for anyone or any family searching for a new furry addition to their home!!

I was SO impressed with everything from the application process through bringing her home but I am most grateful for the thoughtful placement. We really did search and search. We needed the perfect dog who would love our kids but also not drive our blind pug crazy. The descriptions of Freya and thoughtful back and forth when I started the application process described her so clearly and perfectly. She really is the best dog and the best fit for our family and now four years later I am still so grateful to this organization for their help to bring our girl home. This is not an honest or reliable rescue group. I know there are many reputable rescue groups out…read morethere, so please do your research beforehand. My dog had many problems, which could have been avoided. We have spent thousands of dollars in the few weeks that we got our puppy and a lot of this could have been avoided if not for this rescue group's negligence. 1. Our dog came covered in fleas. He had scabs all over his body from the bites. He was not given a flea preventative treatment even though we were told that would be taken care of before he was transported to us according to the contract. Subsequently, due to flea allergies he then developed a skin infection AND ear infection a few weeks later. Our house had to be exterminated. He also developed tape worm, which dogs get from eating fleas. This ALL could have been avoided if he had been given the proper preventative flea treatment. This would have saved us a lot of money and the puppy a lot of suffering. 2. The puppy also had giardia, another intestinal parasite when we received him. According to the contract and New Hampshire law he was also supposed to test negative for this, but was not tested because "he did not show any symptoms." 3. Communication was extremely unprofessional. They would not take any responsibility for any of the issues that we had since day one with our puppy. They told me that I should "get a job" and to stop "harassing them." 4. Communication involving the transport was awful. It was extremely difficult to get any definitive answer as to when our puppy would arrive. He was supposed to arrive on a Saturday morning at 9 am. We could a phone call the Friday night before at 9 o'clock informing us they were "running 24 hours late" with no reason at all. He came instead Sunday morning with short notice. 5. I have spoken with another family who adopted our puppy's brother. This family's puppy also came with fleas and giardia. 6. I know it is difficult to know the breed of a dog when rescuing because most of the time you do not know the parents, but this group blatantly lied about our dog's breed. They told us lab/rottie mix and that the dog was going to be VERY large. I was sent 2 more pics after I had already paid and knew something was wrong because his legs were extremely short with a very long body. I inquired about this and they lied and told me it was the "angle of the camera." I said I wanted more pictures but never received any. Now that we have had our puppy for about two months, it is clear this dog is a basset hound and that he will not be a large dog. I added this complaint last because we still love our puppy unconditionally, even though he was not what he expected. I just wanted to add the last reason this group is dishonest. As you can see, there have been a multitude of problems since receiving our puppy and these problems should have been taken care of. This rescue group did not hold up their end of the deal. Unfortunately, we and our poor puppy have had to pay for it.

I know it can be very hard to tell the breed of a rescue dog but what they told me and what she is are two completely different things. I don't care about her breed, although they told me she was a lab mix and turns out she is a beagle/pitbull mix. That part that bothers me is that they said my dog was going to be around 60-70lbs. I prepared for this, I bought a large crate, large bed, large toys, large food bowl, large breed puppy food. My dog is now 8 months old and weighs MAYBE 20 lbs. A vet would be able to estimate weight at 4 months so basically the vet was an idiot or they lied. The only thing I didn't end up exchanging was her food bowl.... The next thing they did was lie about her personality. Now I know puppies are all mostly energetic but as a rescue group they should be able to tell basic personality traits. I wanted a calm, laid-back dog. I got the complete opposite. She is very high energy, needs tons of attention, and is the most stubborn dog I've ever met and I still love her. Just not what I was told. The thing I am most upset about is fleas. It took me a little over a week to realize she had fleas and by that point she had already infected my two cats (who sleep in my bed) and the entire house. I had to bomb my house multiple times. Isn't basic dog care to apply flea & tick preventative. Especially when that dog is about to go on a transport bus with 50 other dogs? Like I said, I love my dog but I didn't like that I felt like I was lied to about who my dog really was.

They told me that I had to surrender which I did but I told him I would be back in a couple weeks if I could readopt I just had nowhere for the got to go at the time. The next day I called them and told him that I had a bunch of food and his favorite blanket, and a cat house for them. They proceeded to tell me that the cat was no longer alive. Unreal how anybody could even bring an animal here adoption fine.. don't ever bring a pet here to give it up. Go to a Manchester animal shelter, or MSPCA in Methuen.

Before I moved back to New England, I searched for animal shelters in the area. I volunteered at…read morethe Irving Animal Shelter in Irving, Texas, and I loved it. I was hoping to find a place where I could do the same. - The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is a really nice place. It's right on Route 101. There isn't a ton of parking here - maybe 10 spots up front and 20 or so in back. It's not a large place (not compared to other shelters I've been to), but it's nice. - I've described this place to people as "mostly cats and rabbits" because they don't have a whole lot of large dogs on site. At least, not many that the general public can view. - I signed up to volunteer. You have to first take a "class". It's two hours long and you have to donate $10 at the end - more as an act of faith that you're serious about being a volunteer. (Also, they really need the money). The class wasn't much of a class, to be honest. You don't learn a lot, you just hear about all the good things the shelter does or has done. After the class is over, you have to sign up again for training. And the training could be in anything from "small cage cleaning" to "walking dogs" or "laundry". You get to pick which one you come back for. The next time you come back is your first day of volunteering. I've come back to learn about their dogs, but as a new volunteer, you don't get to interact with many dogs. Many of the dogs here are "senior only" meaning, only a "senior" dog walker can take them out. A "Senior" walker is defined as someone who has booked 50 hours volunteering here. It's very technical. You have to sign up online to come in to volunteer - you can't just show up and help out (well, you can, but it's almost discouraged). They have a lot they need to get done and they do it by having volunteers sign up for specific things - laundry, cage cleaning, etc. What bothers me is that there are a lot of dogs here, and I have time and I've handled all kinds of dogs in the past - but I'm not allowed to help because I'm not a "senior" walker here. I just feel bad for the dogs here that aren't being taken out because a "senior" isn't around that day. - OK I digress. Otherwise, it's a nice facility. Lots of really nice cats. A surprising number of rabbits. There was even a turtle there up for adoption last week! The dog kennels are a little shocking to see - they're in a room that smells like bleach (this place is big on cleaning) with glass doors to the kennels. There is only one outdoor fenced-in area for the dogs to exercise off leash. Volunteers can take the dogs on-leash through the woods/trails behind the place. - I just wish the place had more land - they could use some outdoor runs for the dogs. Let them play and that way potential adopters can see them having fun and not barking behind glass doors! - It's a good place - very well organized and passionately run.

Not only was the process smooth but the foster mom was spectacular. She absolutely loved the dog and worked hard to find the right home for him based on his personality. She matched us to our new dog and he fits into our lifestyle perfectly. Every adoption agency is different but the Derry humane society took wonderful care of our dog. He was only $400 and came neutered, micro chipped, and had several hundred dollars in receipts for medical care. My new favorite part of my day is when he comes back from his morning walk with his mommy. He jumps into the bed, onto my chest, and playfully attacks me. After breakfast he repeats the attack but then demands I get up and have my coffee with him. We love him so much!! Thank you for taking the extra time in matching the dog to the new owners!!!
