We had a pretty good time at Dockside Dave's the other night. It was our first time there. The food was really good. I especially loved the onion rings and gator bites. My grouper reuben was good too, but I couldn't enjoy the grouper as much with all the cole slaw and cheese. Next time I'll get the regular sandwich. The service was ok, not great. The owner was the first person to talk to us, but he didn't greet us or let us know he was the owner. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed by her tables. I also was confused by the silverware in little plastic baggies. The atmosphere was definitely a beach dive, but that's fine by me so long as it's clean and I have enough room to eat, which I did. The patio on the front of the restaurant was cute but it only offered a view of the parking lot and Gulf Boulevard. I'll go back because of the food. You know when you're on vacation and you ask your Uber driver where the best place to eat is? Well we did this on a recent trip to Treasure Island, FL and he said "Oh, ya gotta go to Dockside Dave's and get their grouper sandwich." Well, folks, I've never heard of grouper and I wasn't really in the mood for a fish sandwich. So we hung out doing Other Stuff for a few hours then called upon another Uber to return us to the hotel and asked that new driver the same question. And you know what she said?! "Oh, ya gotta go to Dockside Dave's and get their grouper sandwich!" So guess where we ended up for dinner? And you know what, I had the grouper sandwich! First of all, this is a huge sandwich. You have your choice of several different ways the grouper can be prepared; I chose battered and deep fried (hey, I was on vacation). It was darned tasty. My friend got the grouper bites, and I think if I had to do it again I'd get those just because the bread in the sandwich was so filling. I did think the prices were a bit excessive; but then again I was on vacation and this is a pretty touristy area. The service was friendly, though. 3.5 to a 4.0 A light rain had just started and found a parking lot directly in front Madeira Beach and Dockside Dave's was directly across the street and bookmarked ha it was time to cross it off ! Walking in found it to be a Very Casual place locals and visitors all come here for food and drinks. The beer is cheap and the Smoked Amber jack spread is fantastic, after having a taste got a full order this will come with tomatoes, pepperoncini's, half sweet pickles and club crackers. If you want a bit more flavor add a few drops of your favorite spicy sauce and dig in. * Joanna C has a really good photo of the Smoked Amber jack plate But it must be requested Gluten Free to get all of the veggies, totally jealous had I known would have ordered it that way. read more

Weird atmosphere, good food. I'm still not 100% sure what to make of this place; all I know is that I'd go back. Inside is crowded and looks like any teen-eensy small town bar. Outside is inexpensive patio furniture and umbrellas, and a refrigerator (yes, outside) from which were delivered huge squeeze bottles of sauces (a nice touch.) Drinks are pretty inexpensive, although the selection is small. We sat outside and ordered hard ciders from a gruff-yet-friendly waitress stereotype. After hearing our order of seafood chowder, grouper sliders, and shrimp tacos (what? we're on vacation!) she recommended we get the half-sized basket of fried veggies rather than the full-sized we were planning on. Good call, Flo! This basket was the biggest basket of fried veggies I ever done seen. I can only wonder how big the full-sized is, for only $2 more. The seafood chowder was a puree the deep, rich color of Pepto Bismol with what looked like homemade croutons. Boyfriend loved it. The fried veggies (Flinstone-sized onion rings, broccoli, mushrooms, cauliflower, and others I'm forgetting) were fresh, crisp and delightful. Of the 3 grouper sliders Boyfriend received, he could only finish one. Ditto with my 2 shrimp tacos, which came stuffed with fried shrimp, some sort of tangy red sauce, and slaw. The prices were surprisingly low for what was an impressive amount of food. (This seems to be a central theme of eating on the Gulf islands.) I'm making it sound like everything at Dockside Dave's is angina waiting to happen, but they do actually offer everything we ordered blackened or sauteed rather than fried. My hubby and I visited Dockside Dave's tonight after driving in from Atlanta. We sat on the patio and even though none of the heaters had propane we were comfortable. The food was very good. We both had grouper. The beer was cold and reasonably priced. We were impressed with how diligent the entire staff. Everyone worked hard to keep everything clean. All tables and table items were cleaned the minute customers left. Lynne, our server was great! Attentive and fun! This place has an amazing 1/2 pound Grouper Sandwich. We've had it country fried, beer battered, grilled, and blackened and it doesn't really matter how it's cooked it's always amazing. I was taken here a couple of years ago by the Madeira Beach Triathlon Race Director. I work with him on his races and he wanted to take me to lunch. Dave's was it. He ordered for me and I went with the flow. Grouper Sandwich, chargrilled, with Onion Rings, and a TBBC Reef Donkey! He told me this is all I needed. He was right! I just brought my training partner with me this latest visit!(Yes, I've been back several times since!) The 8 ounce Grouper sammie was more than enough! It came with lettuce, tomato, & pickles. We split it! The server brought us classic squeeze bottles of ketchup, horseradish sauce, and tartar sauce. They all came into play! The grouper was so tasty, moist and not overbearing in flavor. A little dab of tartar complemented the grouper. This IS my fave grouper sammie in Pinellas! The onion rings didn't disappoint! Huge rings in a light beer batter, bathed to perfection, and servedas aperfect side! I dipped them in the horseradish sauce and the flavor was spot on! A perfect meal anytime on the beach! I think they should serve it with a piece of buttered bread instead of the crackers that are provided. My husband had to grouper sandwich and he said it was good. The best grouper sandwich I have ever had! Stop in for a quick lunch or dinner with freshness you can taste in their grouper sandwich or grouper nuggets. The fish spread is a great appetizer, the waffle fries are perfect to munch on and the atmosphere is fantastic. The location easily blends in opposite the Gulf of Mexico so it could almost be mixed in with restaurants of a similar style in the area. BUT, the grouper sandwich puts it above and beyond the rest. The Grouper does not get any fresher than at Dockside Dave's. One time a friend wanted proof, so off we went. We're sitting at the bar ready to order, and he asked one of the cooks "How fresh is your Grouper?" A seemingly innocent question. The cook said "I'll be right back." What you get is a huge mound of tempura-style ( read: thick and fluffy ) onion rings enough for two adults. That's the go-to meal at Dockside Dave's. The ambience is beach casual, the vibe is island time. If you're in a rush, or want a quick lunch, this is not the place.
