We ducked in on a Saturday around 11:30. Literally no one else in the place. Cool little spot with lots of exposed brick and original beams. My husband had the Shrimp PoBoy, which he said was very good, though a little salty. I had the chicken ceasar salad-delicious. Tonight was my second experience with Dockside Seafood. Two strikes are enough and I won't be going back for a third. The only things this restaurant has going for it are the location and a constant flow of tourists who don't know better. It was a chilly, windy evening by the river and although there were plenty of tables open, we were seated right by the open door. The server was grumpy and very slow. We tried the crab chowder and it was served lukewarm. There was maybe one piece of crab in the whole bowl. Then we sat there F-O-R-E-V-E-R waiting for our food. Two couples came, were served their food and left and still we waited. We had buffalo chicken nachos and crawfish with hushpuppies, coleslaw and corn on the cob. I think they were out catching crawfish for how long it took. The chicken nachos were mediocre at best. Only 3 little bites of chicken on the whole plate. The nacho chips were really deep fried tortillas and the whole works was burned. On to the crawfish. They were lukewarm also. Maybe they were ready for a while before our server could be bothered to bring them after we had been waiting for over an hour. I asked the server how to eat them and what he told me was completely incorrect. I discovered this after getting home and looking it up on YouTube. Turns out you mainly eat the tail in case you wondered. They were not very fresh tasting, so I only tried to eat about half of them for fear of becoming ill. The corn on the cob was over ripe and over cooked. The coleslaw and hush puppies were pretty good and the dinner roll served with the soup was also good, but that is obviously not what anyone is coming through the door for. My first experience with Dockside Seafood was walking by the river with my daughter and granddaughter late in the evening. My granddaughter needed the bathroom so we walked in and one of the staff told us that they were closed. Note that the door was open. I explained that the little girl needed the restroom and the staff member said it would be fine for her to go to the bathroom. Another member of the staff got up from the table he was lounging at and rudely explained that it would not be possible for my granddaughter to use the bathroom. I told him that another staff member had said she could but he loudly explained that it had already been cleaned and no one could go back there and insisted that we must leave. We left but my daughter doubled back to have a word with the young man. He said that he had had a bad night. That can happen to anyone, but for a grown man to take it out on and 8-yr. old girl is way out of bounds. All in all, your time and your money are much better spent elsewhere. Came to town for a family wedding. Did a search for seafood restaurants. Discovered this location near the hotel I was staying at. Decided to give it a try. Most of the food selection is fried. Was hoping for a more authentic representation of the seafood offerings for Savannah, GA but was disappointed in the meal our group selected. We ordered appetizers and drinks to go along with our meal. The kicker to our meal when it was all said and done was the bill. We were a party of 5 people. The menu says that for parties of 6 or more there will be an 18% gratuity applied to the bill. Since my party was only 5 I didn't think anything of it. Our server informed me that the PC was charging the 18% because of the total of the bill, 218 which included a 35ish gratuity. I was about to leave cash money tip but upon seeing the extra charges, I did not leave a cash tip. The server explained that because the bill was over $200 the auto gratuity was inserted into the bill. I didn't realize until after I left that our bill only came to 180 before taxes. Just stopped into this place today on our way home from Tybee Island! The food and service is spot on!! We started with the crab cake, crab mushrooms and coconut shrimp for starters.... and they were FANTASTIC!!!! Everything was very fresh and tasty!!!! Then we got the low shrimp boil and the Alaskan King crab legs... And they were absolutely out of this world! I do not know what type of seasoning that is used, but it was the best low boil and Alaskan King The legs that we have ever eaten! The restaurant is located right on the river so there is a fantastic view and the atmosphere is one of casual but yet very well coming! Would definitely recommend this joint to anyone that's looking for some great seafood! We definitely will be coming back to this restaurant the next time that we are in Savannah! read more

Review The worst I have ever been treated in my entire life at a "restaurant." Made a reso for 14, 3 months in advance after speaking with the apparent owner rachel. She was an absolute delight and made it clear we were welcome and that she "appreciated our business." I called two weeks ago to confirm, then received a call the day before to confirm a third time. Everyone in the bachelorette party was extremely excited to eat here as I told them how fabulous rachel had been to me, but unfortunately her entire staff was rude, inconsiderate, and absolutely the most least understanding people I've ever encountered. They first told me that they were just waiting on another table to leave (15-20min), so we waited. After 25 I approached the host and asked to speak to a manager. The manager basically threw her hands up in the air and said there was nothing she could do since the table wouldn't leave now making it our problem, when it should have been made clear to the party of 8 at our reserved table that there was a reso at 7. Was also told they had "no idea" about our reso. I asked that the problem be remediated somehow but then received god awful sighs and eye rolls from another male employee which I told needed to be less disrespectful. I was then berated by a bystander screaming I was "disgusting" for asking that our 3 month reso be honored meanwhile the staff let him sit there and yell at me. We ended up taking our business next door and had a wonderful experience. Extremely disappointed with the staff here ESPECIALLY after the amazing hospitality shown by Rachel and the great menu options. 0/10 recommend if looking for the well known "southern hospitality." read more

It's really hard to rate this place. The food was pretty good but the service was not. It took over 20 minutes to get the soup I ordered & then the main meal came about 2 minutes later. And that's after I asked my server where my soup was. What really bothered me was that there were only about 5 other tables that had patrons at them. I can understand when a restaurant is full, sometimes it can take a while to get the food out but when it's slow, there really is no reason for it. Meh, you say? Oh yeah, I reply. This place is a big meh. First of all, we all know that one should never, ever, ever eat in a touristy place if you want good food. These places are obvious because of location and the plethora of people walking around who obviously aren't from around here. Dockside sits along the road that follows the river's edge. Not one person looked local, including me. Next, try to avoid places with overly thematic decor. At Dockside, it is dressed up (or dressed down) to look like an old watering hole where a pirate might feel at home. Service was okay. I could ignore the thematic ambiance. The management should know, however, that the food was sub par. Even our little food critic in training didn't like it. We ordered two fried fish platters, both with fries. She got the fried scallops which were okay. I got the fried haddock. It was not okay. The breading was stale and tasted slightly moldy, probably due to how the flour was stored. The fries were soggy. I ate a few bites and left the rest for the waitress to return to the kitchen. If you really want to save a buck and eat on the touristy river front, this place may suit your needs. We walked into this restaurant, expecting decent food from their Yelp review. Unfortunately, our drinks were bad, the apps never arrived until our entrees arrived, and overall the food was terrible. The chicken parm was so tough, to the point that it was almost inedible. The pasta tasted as if it was ramen noodles with Campbell's mushroom soup on top. My sister and her friend picked this placed because they needed a restaurant with outdoor seating because they had a dog with them. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating was the only thing going for this place. My sister and I ordered the teriyaki shrimp with mixed vegetables and loaded mashed potatoes. The teriyaki shrimp was not impressive and something I could have made by opening up a can of store bought teriyaki sauce. The mixed veggies looked and tasted like the frozen mixed vegetables you buy at the supermarket. They were EXTREMELY salty and swimming in a pool of butter. Probably the saltiest food i have ever tasted. And yes, I'm including movie theater popcorn after i add salt and butter to it. I could not eat the vegetables. The mashed potatoes tasted like box mashed potatoes doctored up with shredded cheese and bacon bits. And this meal for 8 shrimp frozen veggies and boxed potatoes cost me a total of 20 dollars. I could have made this meal at home much better and it would have cost around 5 to 10 dollars to make. Our friend ordered the Chicken Caesar salad and her chicken was cold, and there was a brown long hair in her food. (she has blond hair). The water offered to re cook the salad but the whole experience was unimpressive. I work as a waitress, and hear guest complain all the time. The hostess was eating at her post. Observed trash being taken out of the front door Hostess had a chronic cough. The food was ....meh. Neither really bad or good. My shrimp was good. The red rice had too much tomato sauce. The coke slaw and hush puppies were ok. I watched a cook follow customers on their way out the door to ask them why they did not like a meal. My family's first visit to Savannah and we splurged on dinner and had steak & seafood at Dockside on 12/28/12 and we enjoyed all of it. The dinning room was inviting and warm on a cold evening. The tables were unique with huge chains holding up the tables to the ceiling beams. Decor was as expected for a seafood restaurant. Our waitress was extremely polite and professional. She made sure we were aware of the specials that had just been posted; steamed crab legs & shrimp dinner for $17.00 and a steak & shrimp dinner for $25.00. We considered these prices very high. But, this was our family's holiday special outing, and we had not had any lunch, so we splurged and enjoyed a feast. My son was the only one who chose a chicken sandwich which was the best bargain all, for $8.00 he got the largest chicken sandwich any of us had ever seen. We also had the stuffed mushrooms & fried green tomatoes; both was very good; the tomatoes were large thick cut slices fried in a light batter. The mushrooms were small brown & crunchy (my husband liked them, I did not). Would I go back,? Maybe, but since I don't get to Savannah very often, I probably would want to try another place, just because I like to go to different places. Very clean and pretty bathroom.
