The food is whatever. I'm here to talk about the service, the likes of which I have never, in all my travels, encountered. The place was recommended to us by the B&B we were staying at. The menu has an odd mixture of Chinese (not real Chinese) some salads and sandwiches but they did have a fresh pan fried Cod dinner which what we ordered. They have room for about 50 diners and when we got there at 5:30 pm there were two large tables and about 3 smaller ones. The staff seemed overwhelmed but nobody warned us it would be a longer than usual wait. An hour later, I asked our server how much longer it would be, and the reply was "well we're busy". No apology or empathy. We said nothing else and about 20 minutes later, the manager or owner came to our table (her one hand covered in fish breading lol) and this is where it gets weird. She started giving us shit! She said "in case you didn't notice we are very busy tonight. Your food is on its way, so you don't have to..." at which point I cut her off and asked what she was accusing us of. That was like poking a den of vipers with a stick she went off on me so I quietly and politely asked her how much our drinks cost as I'd like to settle up and leave. My appetite was ruined. She said "oh your paying for your meal whether you stay or not !" We were shocked and a little bit frightened tbh. She walked away and we debated what to do I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant, like we were being held hostage. About 15 min. Later she brought out her mediocre food and acted as if nothing happened. We ate a bit but were anxious to get the hell outta there. I went outside and my husband paid the bill and tried to tell her calmly that we were not happy and she threw him out! But not before verbally abusing him. I don't know what to make of the whole experience. It's my first day in Newfoundland, we travelled half the country to get here and the first impression is this lovely person. The tourism community needs to know how this makes this whole little town look. I know I'll be recommending to my clients to go to Trinity or stay in St. John's or maybe Marystown if they must come down this way. read more
