Doe's is by far the most expensive "casual" (borderline divey) steakhouse I've been to. They do serve up some gigantic steaks, though, so you can almost always split one of their steaks and still probably take leftovers home, especially with their sides. Major key with steaks: they're cooked correctly, thankfully. Being from Texas, tamales are a staple in my diet, so it was very odd to see them as an appetizer covered in chili. But you know what, they were pretty darn good! Definitely take off the paper before digging in, though, otherwise you'll get a mouthful of paper like my unwitting colleagues... I think the best part of Doe's is the incredibly friendly and punctual service, even with a huge party. Though the price tag can rival fancier steakhouses, Doe's is a home-grown restaurant that serves up some satisfying grub. Doe's sort of fits into the Bentonville pretentious scene - "Look I have so much money that I can drop $125 for dinner and I don't mind sitting on a torn vinyl chair on filthy carpet. So what if the plates are plastic and the silverware is bent? That's the charm of Doe's". I can certainly afford to spend that much for dinner, but if I'm doing so, I expect a little more from the establishment. The steak was okay. My first fork bent trying to stab the meat, second fork bent only slightly so I kept it. Probably a combo of meat being too tough and silverware being too flimsy. Fried biscuit dough rolls are pretty gross and is the salad. Bisque was the highlight. read more

I agree with Chris below - so many things wrong. I'll start by saying that if you check out YouTube, you'll find videos of the owner throwing darts at his dishwasher's back, and hitting a chef in the head with a baking pan. We took the majority of our food home to feed the dogs, including the ribeye. The oysters were disposed of in a napkin. The shrimp tasted freezer burned. And I think the best thing we had between us all...was a beer. Sysco gives these guys their expired food, I presume. Oh and the decor and bathrooms resemble a dive bar, and the staff conveniently hangs out near the bathroom which is also where the cash register is. Ok, admission time: I've been using Yelp and not giving back but this place made me need to start posting again. I thought 4 star steak yelp rating would wind up with a solid steak dinner. Nope, the reviews to the contrary were more correct, so I need to add to theirs. First, I'm not a fan of restaurants that don't post their prices in their online material (Does does not show prices in their online material). And I usually don't go to restaurants like that. I should have followed my own rule. So I arrived on Wednesday at 5PM and was promptly seated and asked if I'd like a drink. So far so good. I was also promptly informed that two of the smaller steaks were not available, so the smallest steak was a 1.5 pound tbone - at $24 per pound. I started with the cup of gumbo. It was good, not great. Then the dinner salad arrived. OK, I don't get the idea behind this salad. Its soggy to the point the veggies are wilted and after eating half, the rest was wilted enough it wasn't appetizing so I waited for the steak. The menu clearly says for a medium rare steak, expect 35 minutes for it to arrive. Sure enough, after 35 minutes it arrived with a pile of hand cut potatoes. I don't get why it takes 35 minutes to do a medium rare 1.5 tbone - even with a rest at the end. On a grill at the right temp (450-500) one can hit that temp at 5 minutes a side or so. I cut into the steak and it was close to being correctly cooked. I ordered medium rare and I got rare. Yea, it's up to opinion, but cold red (where is my themapen when I need it) is not medium rare in my book. The first bite put three ideas in my head : (1) yes, it's definitely aged, and nicely so (2) it's not properly seasoned and (3) why is this greasy? As I say the above I can picture Robert Irvine or Gorden Ramsey saying 'this isn't good, you need to fix it' and the restaurant owner/manager saying 'Its fine as it is!'. Um no, it's not. So l'm going to back up. The piece of meat itself was very nice. The aging was well done with the result being obvious in the enhanced gamey flavor and tenderness. I wish I was local and could get my hands on the meat itself and try grilling at home with the right seasoning over a charcoal grill at the right temperature. My main issues was in the cooking of the meat. I finished with about half the steak left on my plate. The server asked if I'd like a box and when I said no, she cleared it without asking about why I didn't finish it. Hmmm. When she came back I asked her how the meat was cooked and she said over a flame. I told her I thought it tasted a lot more like cooked in an oven with a skillet finish. There were no grill marks visible (period) no changes in cooking that would indicate a hot grill, and no smokey flavor from dripping hitting a flame. The main miss was seasoning though. Not enough salt, no pepper, and no smoke or other complimentary flavors. I don't work for Penzeys or benefit from them selling anything but I'd recommend any steak house that can't get seasonings right trying their Chicago Steak Seasoning or Mitchell's for ideas. Oh, I forgot to mention the best part of the dinner - their hand cut fries were great! Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and they were delicious all by themselves with nothing else for dipping. Hey Does, try using a decent amount of your fries season on your steaks! They were the best part of the dinner, which is sad in a steak house. Yes, the $$$ cost is correct. A cup of soup, a 1.5 lb (their smallest) steak, a wilted salad, and fries was $55 with a 18% tip for the server who only made one mistake. No adult beverages or desert was consumed. if I wanted another steak dinner in the area, I'd go to Theo's first or River City second. Both have a upscale restaurant atmosphere, better service, better wine and a better menu. read more

One little tomato and just iceberg lettuce. No choice of salad dressing either. When I go to a expensive restaurant, I expect choices like a baked potato with my steak. Have been to Doe's several times and I really like their steaks. My bf and I usually split a two pound porterhouse with fries. It's plenty for dinner for the two of us and we usually have steak and fries left to take home. Doe's has a diverse beer list and even has a "World Beer Tour" where you can work your way through all the beers they offer for a free steak and have a plaque hanging up. One thing I definitely recommend passing on is the salad- they only offer it with a house dressing that is oily and leaves the salad very slimy. yuck! The service is wonderful. Mmmmm... meat. I thought this place was great. I totally get not liking the marinated salad, but I did - it was kind of like a wilted salad and it had just enough crunch left to still be tasty. Now I haven't spent a whole lot of time in the south, and the majority of the "southern food" I have eaten has been at Waffle House. So I'm certainly not a connoisseur (is that marinated salad a southern thing? Forgive my ignorance). This was my first experience with drop biscuits and I thought they were delicious - crisp on the outside, dense and sweet on the inside, and really amazing when accompanied by honey. I got the shrimp 2 ways and ate the whole thing up. All up. The red potatoes were the perfect accompaniment. My friends got the 8 oz. filet and 1.5 lb T-Bone - WOW. Delicious, tender, perfectly pink meat with a lovely sear on the outside. Fries were good but a little too salty. I liked going to a local place instead of like Red Lobster, that's for sure. We took our neighbors as a thank you for doing things for us. First of all, the service was great. The tamales appetizer was also outstanding. The French fries were perfect. However, the salad was boring, tasteless and was just lettuce and a thin watery dressing I think they called Italian. No other dressing was available. None of us ate it. We had two of the $65 rib eyes. Our guests got a good piece with very little fat. We were not so lucky. At least one half of our steak was bone or FAT. Was fortunate enough to have a big appetite and a big party that let me try a bit of everything. Hot tamales were great, but the chili topping was outstanding. Couldn't get enough. Spoon-dropped dumplings were the highlight of my night. Perfect recipe and perfect execution. French fries were also a top highlight. Just the right amount of salt, and the flavor/texture made me think they were double-fried. Their steak could compete against any finished product in the country. I got the porterhouses, cooked to perfection, albeit a bit fatty for me. The whole menu reminded me of Parisian French vs Southern Italian cooking. You can go to the fancy chain steakhouses (like rich French cuisine), but a place like Doe's -- while plain & simple -- is just as good because they execute so perfectly (like rustic Italian). We went to Doe's this year for Jason's birthday, and it was ridiculously good. The best steak I have had, probably EVER. It was so tender, and had a really good sauce with it, which I was surprised to like, considering I don't usually like anything on/with my steak. You get a choice of side - boiled new potatoes or fries. Both are really good, and the boiled potatoes come with butter and sour cream. YUM. We had a bottle of wine with dinner, and it was great - only about $30, which I consider a GREAT deal for restaurant wine. It's not cheap, but every dollar you spend is SO worth it. An update to my earlier review - the fries are still epic. It's a sin to put anything on them but salt and the meat juice from the steak. This time, however, the steak was among the best I've ever had. I got the T-bone because they were out of the small (1-1/2 pound) porterhouse. After a nervous consultation with my waitress I asked for medium rare. When the steak came out I cut in and peeked- it looked pretty red to me and I braced for disappointment. I popped the first piece in my mouth and... Nirvana in the form of a slab of cow. It looked rare but had the taste, texture and temperature of a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. Was pointed at Doe's by a local as being a great steak place, so a group of us decided to give it a shot. While most restaurants in the Bentonville area have a reasonable $15 corkage fee, Doe's charges $30 because "That's how much we charge for our lowest priced bottle of wine." Unfortunately the norm is that corkage traditionally covers a restaurant's gross profit on a bottle of wine, not what they charge a customer for the lowest priced bottle. When ordering dinner you have your choice of red potatoes, stake fries or biscuits. You cannot substitute any of these with a green vegetable, but you can pay for one as a side dish. No credit is given if you choose not to have one of the starch based sides. The salads that came before dinner were a simple prepared from the bag iceberg mix placed into bowls, drowned in Italian dressing and left to sit in the refrigerator for hours prior to serving. When they got to the table the lettuce was soaked through and still sitting in a pool of dressing. Even the packet of Parmesan cheese couldn't rescue the salad from being inedible. The half fried-half broiled shrimp was okay, but they were a far cry from being the "jumbo" size as described on the menu. I didn't eat anything that required leverage, but one of the diners at my table bent two forks. I kind of expect an establishment that prides itself on stake to provide utensils that could stand up to the steak. From an establishment that aspires to be a great steak place, Doe's ambiance, outlandish corkage, substandard utensiles and inedible salad do nothing to help the average main courses. In short, Doe's falls well short of its aspirations. I won't be going back even if someone else is picking up the tab. read more

Based on their history and large number of customers, we felt like it would be a good experience. Our servers were excellent. Big guys were chowing down on huge steaks and beer! We weren't that hungry, so we ordered chicken fingers. They were barely "OK". The salad were sparse and looked old and dry. They only offer one dressing - theirs - billed as "the perfect blend of olive oil, lemon juice and garlic". Tasteless.
