The Dog Inn is located on Belthorn Road on the right hand side near the top of the hill. The Dog Inn is an excellent place for a meal with family or your other half. As you walk in you can tell it's a very friendly, cosy traditional pub type restaurant. We ordered our drinks and the lady asked we was eating which we were so they gave us a menu and said if we'd like to sit in the bar while we choose. We ordered our meals and within 5 minutes we went downstairs to the restaurant area and more or less our starters came. I had prawn cocktail which was excellently presented and very nice, then had surf and turf which again was excellently presented exactly how I ordered it Medium rare and was delicious. We also ordered some beer battered onion rings which were gigantic but really nice. All together it came to about £35 for both of us including drinks and highly recommended. read more

Bloomin' good pub with good cask beer. Called in after a walk around Entwistle reservoir and people were waiting for food which doesn't come on till 5.00. On a clear day, the views are magnificent! read more

Went for an anniversary meal on 25th June, 2010, booked almost 2 weeks in advance. Arrived to be told almost all staff were away for a football match in Coniston. Booked in for 7.30; escorted to the restaurant at around 8.20. I had the Large Mixed Grill at £17.95 (it wasn't), with steak I ordered rare (it wasn't) and a "succulent" chicken breast fillet (dry as a bone). We left at 10.10 after only 2 courses as there was no sign of us being offered any dessert course. There were 3 staff on duty; 1 barman, the chef and a waitress who was working her first day, apparently. 6 young ladies, who arrived long after we did, were served much quicker? When we eat out I tip generously, but, sorry guys, our service was lamentable. No food was being served on Saturday, pity you didn't start that plan a day earlier. read more

Having lived in Belthorn for 34 yrs I have seen 'the dog inn' follow a number of patronage changes. Currently I am impressed by the current, new, patronage in their efforts to retain a localised village pub atmosphere with local villagers in mind and attracting non villagers to their inn. The atmosphere retains its olde worlde 18th century history with open fires, beamed ceilings and the quintessential country inn atmosphere.Enjoy a beer, or whatever your tipple and peruse the varied menu of local dishes which will enamour and please most tastes within an economical budget range. For a pleasant and relaxing evening with friends/ family or 'just the two of you' I can recommend a visit. The 'Dog'(as known locally ) is well worth the visit. read more

Planned to go to the Dog Inn tonight with our dog for a bite to eat and a pint. Were told outside that ownership had recently changed and they now did not allow dogs in the pub while serving food. And i thought pubs were struggling for business?! A bit of a silly new rule bearing in mind the name of the pub. Won't be visiting again. read more
