Pamela is the best!!! I just adopted a second dog this week. My new dog Chance has been through a terrible tragedy in his life. His owners were killed in a double murder. There were three dogs in the home when it happened. One of the dogs was also shot and killed. Chance and his brother Champ survived the attack and were taken to an animal shelter in rural NC where they have been for the last month. I felt compelled that I need to adopt one of the dogs so they would know love once again. A good friend of mine is looking to adopt Chance's brother. We scheduled a session with Pamela for our new 6 month old puppy, Murphy. Since we are new puppy parents, we wanted to make sure to start Murphy out on the best foot and learn the do's and don'ts of training a puppy his age. We've been working with Pamela for just over three months, and have made so much more progress than I dared hope for. This review is long overdue. We were on the brink of returning our rescued puppy because she was so out of control -- she barked and lunged at everything, and couldn't be around other dogs. I will just say straight out - thank god for Pamela Wyman and DogEvolve. We rescued a lab mix four years ago - sweetest guy you would ever want to meet, unless you were another dog he spotted while we were out on a walk. Then he was the demon dog from hell, lunging, barking, growling and generally acting completely nuts. Plus, he's big and black and terrifying when he goes into crazy dog mode. It got so bad that I stopped walking him, and stuck to playing ball in the backyard. I got a house call vet so I wouldn't have to take him to the vet's office. It was awful, I felt really bad for the dog, but I had no idea what I was doing. My new vet really encouraged me to try training, so I went on Yelp and decided that DogEvolve was closest to what I wanted. I emailed them, and Pamela got back to me right away. We have had one initial consultation lesson and we are following up with one-hour private lessons about once a month. The change in my dog's behavior (and mine!) is like night and day! The second lesson had us on parallel walks with other dogs, and now we are going to the beach, something I thought we would never be able to do. I feel like she is training both of us! I adopted a very happy, loving, high-spirited pup at the SPCA a few years back. Kelly's a really good girl--smart, responsive, good on a leash, and eager to please. She always has a big doggie smile on her face. All that said, she has been problematic in one way: going crazy with joy when visitors would come to my house, jumping, going bananas, and generally being a big pest with the invasive über-loving. No exaggeration, it used to take 15 minutes before she'd settle down. Not exactly the way I wanted to greet guests in my home, but I simply could not get Kelly to comport herself more appropriately. She is the first dog I've ever owned, so I felt out of my depth. What to do? Contact Pamela Wyman, that's what. I needed to bring in the big guns. I made an appointment and we met at a dog-friendly park in Bernal Heights. She started working with us even before she'd fully gotten out of her car. I'll be the first to say it - my dog can be a handful. I mean, he's cute as hell and for the most part he's about as great a dog as I could ask for. But let's be realistic, we've got a few issues..... After seeing a DogEvolve ad at our nearby doggy day care, I looked them up on-line and was immediately impressed. Their approach to dog (and human!) training is firmly planted in the real world. Rather than a one-size-fits-all technique, they realize that everybody is busy these days and that dog training has to fit into a hectic lifestyle. I emailed Pamela to talk about Radar's needs and she came over for a little one-on-one. When she came in, Radar took to her immediately (the pocketful of treats didn't hurt but it was something more than that....). She really seemed to listen to us and to address real-world solutions to help us meet our dog's needs. Soon after, we signed up for DogEvolve's recall class. Just as Pamela seemed to be realistic in her approach to training, Kelley really understands what dog ownership is like. They've both been great in helping us to understand what motivates our dog and how we can help him behave in a more urban-friendly way. Even having the class' "problem dog" has been no challenge for either Pamela or Kelley. Even in the middle of a busy class, they've taken the time to help us out. They've helped us realize that most of the training comes with adjusting how we act and respond to our dog and it's made a ton of difference. Even though we still have a ways to go, it's been great to see nearly-instant progress. We've also taken the Boredom Busters class which turned out to be a lot of fun. While teaching recall takes some serious time, this class was all about keeping your dog happy and busy. Kelley and Pamela were so enthusiastic about sharing their considerable knowledge which translated to a fun class for people and dogs. Even though my carpet is covered with peanut butter and chicken bits, Radar now gets a kick out of eating. There is no quick fix to training your dog but DogEvolve, both the classes and private sessions, have helped us to get on the right path. Molly is a very sweet labradoodle, but when she started barking and going crazy when we met other dogs on our daily walks, I knew we needed help. The classes are fun and playful. Pamela and Kelley have a great sense of humor and clearly enjoy one another. Their good chemistry moves the class along quickly. Kelley, Thanks a million! I contacted Dog Evolve about my rescue Corgi that has a serious fear problem. Pretty much terrified of everything. 1st meeting was teaching my pup to play/fetch.
