I truly cannot express how dishonest, sub-par, and outright unacceptable the grooming service is at this location, and the customer service of the management. If you want a grooming service that will listen to simple instructions, DO NOT come here. About a week ago, my dog, Bonci, went in for a groom. I gave the groomer ONE, very simple instruction that many dog parents will understand -- "please do not cut his intimate parts too short, as it will be very itchy and uncomfortable." I gave both an instruction, and a reason. As dog owners know, a short trim or a shave can cause razor burn, which in turn leads to hot spots and injury. Regardless of whether a grooming service should know this, my ask was simple -- just LISTEN TO MY ONE INSTRUCTION. It is a service after all, is it not? I paid before the groomer came out with my dog (and tipped, as usual). To my surprise, her first comment was an apology -- she had failed to do the ONE thing I asked her to do. Before we even left the establishment, my dog was whining, scooting on the floor, and signaling clear discomfort in his intimate areas. He had difficulty walking home, as he sat down every few steps to soothe the pain that the movement of his legs caused the area. Hoping that he would not be in too much pain, I took my dog home. However, later that day, it was clear that he was in distress. He refused to go on walks, stand for long periods of time, and continually whined and cried in pain. So, I did what every dog parent would do. I called the vet. The vet advised us to apply hydrocortisone cream twice a day, and to put a cone on him to prevent him from licking his growing injury, which became red, raw, and threatened infection. So, we purchased a cone and clothes to prevent him from licking. I reached out to this store's location to receive a refund for the service. After all, they failed to do the ONE thing I asked. If I had gotten a haircut, for example, and they left me in pain and crying, a refund would really be the least they could do. How wrong I was! Instead, I responded to a dozen emails, received phone calls where I repeated the same information over and over again, and sent pictures of Bonci's injury and the vet's advice. This morning, I received an appalling email. Despite the groomer's immediate apology, her promise to put a note in the file so that she does not violate my instructions again, and all the evidence I had provided, Howard, the CEO, refused to give me a refund. His reason? That the groomer had removed matting on my dog "for free." The only problems? (1) I was never charged for a mat removal; (2) I was never told about matting (which is their policy); (3) The area affected had such short hair, that matting was near impossible; (4) my dog had been regularly brushed and detangled, including on the morning of his groom. Oh, and the main reason -- the groomer TOLD ME that she forgot to follow the instructions, which caused the EXACT EFFECT I knew it would! I have never experienced something this dishonest, offensive, and downright wrong in my entire life of dog ownership. A business like this should have a warning on the door. read more

I cancelled a grooming appointment. Another time I called to let them know I'd be 10 minutes late. They suggested I reschedule. I did. When I showed up at the afternoon appointment I was told the groomer called in sick. No biggie. But they were unapologetic about having failed to notify me. When I called to reschedule they said I needed to pay up front because I had cancelled "several times". I reminded them of how they inconvenienced me at my last appointment when they failed to notify me that the groomer was out. They didn't care. So, I choose to take my business elsewhere. After trying several groomers I went to Doggie Style on 17th and Spruce. Great customer service and friendly staff. I'm told the owner of this Doggie Style is different from the owner of 21st and South. I hope that's true because I don't want a dime of mine going to the owner of the 21st and South location. read more

We used Doggie Style for years but will not be returning anymore. When I called to schedule for my dog, they warned me that I had 2 no show appointments and that if I got a third in a year, I'd be banned. Surprised, I apologized and asked what the dates of those no-shows were- to my knowledge, we have never missed an appointment except for 2 months ago, when we called to let them know we'd only be bringing in one dog instead of two because our other dog was diagnosed with cancer. They said they couldn't see the dates, which did not make sense to me, but I didn't belabor the point. We made an appointment for the following week. My husband arrives to the appointment, and we are told there's no record of the appointment and they're full for the day, would we like to book for next week? No, we would not. It's a shame- they have a couple of great groomers. But I cannot deal with whatever is happening at that front desk. EDIT: The manager, Matthew, reached out and very sincerely apologized on behalf of his associate and offered to make things right. I really appreciate that, and feel that businesses making corrections is rare these days. I'm happy to give them another chance. read more

Doggie Style is an adorable pet boutique that offers grooming services, training services, and even has Saved Me Rescue dogs up for adoption. The staff is very friendly and helpful if you have questions about products or anything pet related. Don't let the name fool you! They carry cat products too. We love coming to the Grad Hospital location to grab treats and toys. They also have a great selection of pet related gifts that make perfect pet birthday presents. The only reason I'm not giving Doggie Style Pets a full 5/5 is because we were not impressed with the grooming services we received. We brought our dog for his first puppy cut and the end result was not great. I do realize that it was his first haircut so he may have been difficult, but the groomer said that he was well behaved so I'm not sure that his behavior is the reason for the bad cut. I'm not sure of the name of the groomer we saw, but I did appreciate that we were able to make an appointment with a weeks notice. read more

The South St store isn't serious about staffing to provide grooming services. They just canceled a grooming appointment for my poodle a second time. When I made the first appointment, the earliest they could give me was 7 weeks away. They called the day before that appointment and said they had to reschedule with a different groomer 5 days later. Less than 24 hours before that appointment, they told me the groomer wasn't available and rescheduled in another 9 days. I liked the groomer there, but my dog really needs to be clipped and this is a long time to wait! read more

He's a mini poodle, I've been grooming him myself in a teddy bear style for 2 years until I got pregnant and I stop grooming him, it's been 4-5 months now so his hair gets long. Finally My baby was born last week, and I need my dog to be groomed in a teddy bear style for the newborn photoshoot. My husband brought him in this morning and told them we need him to be cute for our newborn shoots tomorrow. I took Mimi, my 2 year old long haired chihuahua mix to the doggie style on 21st and south for a full groom. Mimi's hair gets so long and it's starting to get hot so I figured now would be a good time to get her trimmed up for the summer! My appointment was scheduled for 9am (which is right when they open) and I was nervous that I would arrive a few minutes early and would be stuck waiting until after 9 for someone to open. However, the whole team was there and ready to go right when I arrive! Jody was the groomer and she was so sweet to Mimi that it made me feel very comfortable leaving her. I was promptly called in about an hour to come get her. When I picked her up, I could barely recognize Mimi (in a good way!). She was clean cut and smelled amazing. Her nails were very well trimmed and Jody took good care of Mimi's weird extra nails on her paws that can cause her discomfort. Highly highly recommend this doggie style for grooming and Jody in particular! As an FYI, I actually rescued Mimi from doggie style (on 16th and spruce) and they were fantastic throughout that process as well. read more

Doggie Style did such an amazing job with my puppy, Dixie! She is traumatized when it comes to baths in my household and tends to pout afterwards, but no one likes a stinky puppy after she's been rolling around during her play dates at the park. She was getting so matted and somehow sat in an oil, the amazing groomer went above and beyond by washing Dixie several times with Dawn soap to get off the oil and made sure to call me when my little sister dropped her off, asking me what I wanted done which I didn't expect. She didn't have to do that but knowing that they call their client is a plus in my book! I'm a new mommy when it comes to owning a puppy so knowing Dixie is in good hands when she (sadly on her end, not mine! Hehe) comes to Doggie Style for her grooming. She came in looking like Chewbacca and come out looking like a teddy bear. She still pouted but my fiancé made sure to give her lots of cuddles and treats afterwards. On the day of, Jody extended my appointment time (Thank God!) because I was running late. I was a little nervous about Cotton getting his first haircut and warned Jody about his behavior when we bathe him. She took him back to the wash station and told me to come back in an hour. When I got back he looked ammazzing! So nice and clean cut. I added the cologne spritzer on to the wash and groom package and he smelled great! Overall, I had a really great experience. I have gotten my dog groomed at this location multiple times and have been EXTREMELY happy. I feel like the groomer I've had multiple times has been named Katie? Not really sure. Well unfortunately my usual groomer had a family death so the store called to reschedule my appointment- no problem, life happens. However, this was the week before Thanksgiving so that was a bummer. They squeezed me in, which I greatly appreciated, today. When I called to reschedule the kind staff offered me 25% off - amazing customer service. I usually love it here and have no complaints. I almost feel guilty writing a negative review because I've never written a positive one but I'm sure nothing will come of this anyway. In any case, I spoke with the groomer today and asked that she please not shave my dog and to leave at least a little hair. Well I sent my husband to pick him up and she did the exact opposite. I made a last minute appointment for my Cairn Terrier for a full grooming. They were very accommodating and helpful selecting my style of cut. We opted for a mohawk and that's exactly what Scrappy got! He was looking so dapper when I picked him up! The girls at the store went above and beyond in walking me through his "health file" as they require a copy of his shots record. They pointed out that he was missing and/or due for certain shots. He's a rescue that I've had since September and I feel like we're at the vet all the time, these girls took the time to help me out and lead me in the right direction. On top of that! they work with a local area shelter to help find pets homes. If you've ever walked by you'll notice they usually have 2 pups in the windows. It's their policy to house them until the find forever homes. It warms my heart to never see the same dog in their shop longer then 2 weeks! They are more expensive they my previous groomer, but sometimes you just have to pay for good service! read more

I recently moved to the GHO area from Rittenhouse and was sad to be leaving the Doggie Style from 17th and Spruce behind. Luckily, I discovered one right in my new neighborhood. Why did I not hear about this location? Even when I asked people in the previous store if there a Doggie style in GHO they didn't seem to know. I thought the store had just opened, but the guy working there told me that they had been open since August. This store is much bigger than the one in Rittenhouse. They also have 2 large window spots for dogs that they're trying to get adopted. I love the high ceilings and the exposed pipes which give it a cool industrial feel. The staff is just as friendly as the other store, they also do grooming and have a great selection of food, toys and treats. This will be the routine stopping point for my dog on her walks for free treats at the counter! read more

I have been a loyal customer of Doggie Style (at various locations) for years and have become increasingly disappointed. They do sell a huge variety of dog food and always have Nature's Miracle in stock which is why I will continue to shop there. On the down side, I bought a whole bunch of jerk chicken/rawhide treats there after I was assured by staff that they were made in America. When I researched the treat company when I got home, I learned that all of their products are made in China, of course. Also, their prices are a little on the ridiculous side. Combined with a terrible return policy, this is not the place to take any sort of risk. I bought my dog the cutest hoodie which, it turns out, didn't fit his dachshund body type. I usually went to Rittenhouse Pet Supply before I realized how close Doggie Style Pets was to Rittenhouse! This place is very spacious and has water and dog treats out. There's a wide selection of everything - from dog apparel, treats, hard supplies, food, toys, etc. Everything is extremely organized and clean, and it doesn't smell like dog food, which is common in most pet stores. They have a table of homemade dog treats that are decorated in the cutest ways, like a bakery display. Definitely take advantage of their Rewards program because it's free to sign up and you'll get a free bag of food! read more

Here's why: I was met with a cordial greeting upon entering the store. It took me all of 30 seconds to pick out the item I had in mind. Without delay I went to the counter to pay. Since I was the only customer at the time, there was no line. In fact, I was the only shopper in the front part of the store. Needless to say, I presumed it would be a quick transaction. No. It was not. While I waited at the counter for the cashier to get her bearings, and ring me up, I heard a woman whistling at the back of the store. She was leaving the grooming area. While I waited at the counter, and as she drew nearer, I admired her dog's cut and took a mental note to make an appointment for my dog to be groomed at this particular store. The woman, happily applauding her beautiful dog, walked past me and headed toward the exit. The cashier was quick to tell her that she had to pay: "You gotta pay first!" To my surprise the cashier had me wait while she serviced this second customer first. How rude! Was I not already standing there? I repeat, had I not already been waiting at the counter? After completing the purchase, I handed the signed credit card slip to the cashier. I looked directly into her eyes, catching a rather contemptuous stare as she was in the midst of it. Yes, I caught that. What more is wrong with this picture? I am African American. The other customer, who arrived minutes later at the counter, is Caucasian. Perhaps ethnicity had little to do with the shabby treatment I received. It stands to reason that whatever the underlying cause, the cashier's actions were god-awful unprofessional. read more

I have mixed feelings about Doggie Style, but I mostly love this place. My pup goes here on the regular for baths and she always comes home smelling great. The people that work here are super friendly, and never seem to mind that my exuberant animal knocks everything over when she comes to greet me after her bath. Some of the workers seem more experienced and knowledgeable than others...in particular, not everyone seems to know the pay scale for grooming. When I called to make my pup's last appointment, the employee had no idea how much the bath would cost (my boyfriend usually pays, so I wanted to check), and he was reluctant to ballpark it in case it was "astronomically different than what I quote you". I finally checked online for the price of grooming for my dog's weight. The price was about $20 less than what he quoted me, and $20 more than what I actually ended up paying (their bath specials are awesome). So overall, this place is great. But all of their employees should be informed about services that they provide, especially when grooming is a large part of what they offer. read more

She ran out the front door and five blocks down South Street in Philadelphia across traffic while someone chased her to try to catch her! I was extremely disappointed with my services at Doggie Style today. My preferred groomer was booked for the week so I had to take him elsewhere. I had my Frenchie puppy Hector's nails grinded down and his ears cleaned today. The groomer took him back and only after about 5 mins did he come back out. The groomer raved about how much wax and gunk she had gotten out of his ears. After getting a good look at him in the car on the way home, I realized that his nails had barely been filed and that I could still see black ear gunk in his ears. I had been previously let down with my experience at another Doggie Style location so I decided to give this one a try. I had also felt that they had barely trimmed his nails. I feel that the groomers at these locations are instructed to not completely groom these dogs in order to have them return to be groomed faster. Maybe this would work on other dogs, but not ones with ears this big. I will not return and advise my fellow dog owners to look for groomers elsewhere. read more

Unlike the other reviewers, I did not have a great grooming experience here. I was initially excited to book a grooming appointment for my small pup with Jody given the reviews. I was told the appointment would take an hour or less which was surprising, as other groomers have taken 1.5h or more even though he is a little dog. I got a call after 45 minutes or so that he was done and returned to the store. Jody was still working on him when I arrived and I stood off to the side a bit. I was really displeased to hear her speaking to him in a pretty harsh tone of voice. He isn't the easiest dog to groom admittedly but still. Once I saw him, I realized why she was done so fast. It looked like she had just shaved down every inch of him (including whiskers) without any care. Easily the worst he has looked after a grooming appointment. She also had not done his nails, which maybe I should have asked for though I have not had to do so elsewhere. It was also more expensive than other groomers in the city who do better work with more attention and care. Two stars are for convenience of location and Saturday appointments. I am a huge fan of the Doggie Style franchise, and I my Yorkie has been groomed at there stores since they first opened in Center City. Recently, I moved to South Philly, so I tried the South Street location today. During my phone appointment questionnaire, I indicated that my 5-lb dog is a bit neurotic and snippy, but that he is consistently groomed successfully. However, from the moment I dropped my pooch off I knew the groomer was too inexperienced and timid to groom my dog successfully. After four hours at the groomer (entirely too long!), I was told I could pick him up and that "hopefully" I would like the way he turned out. When I picked him up, only his face and back had been groomed, leaving his legs and chest untrimmed due to his "aggressiveness." A 20% discount was intended to appease me for a wasted Sunday afternoon. I understand that groomers need to protect themselves from harm, but they should also have the ability to calm a very small dog to the point of successfully grooming him. And, the clerk repeatedly told me to return to my previous Doggie Style location, indicating that we were not welcome back. When they had only one store, I was a patron of Doggie Style, so it was disappointing to see that the same professionalism, expertise, and customer service have not been replicated in their expansion efforts.
