I am beyond happy with the services and staff of Dogmata. I took my newly rescued stray in with MULTIPLE issues and now have an awesome, well trained and balanced German Shepherd. You can feel the love the staff has for you and your pets the second you walk in. Your successes are theirs when it comes to the dogs behaviors. I do not believe that pets are safe in the care of that man and his girlfriend. I'm surprised they're still in business. Unless you have I Doberman or a German Shepherd, technically you're not welcome to there. I do not agree with his training methods for any breed. He can be abusive. I wish I had known that before I had taken my dog to him. Initially it was to be for thunder correction, she's a border collie and his method of trying to "correct" Thunder fear, made it worse. He also told me that he would be taking her home with him to work with her through the night, I found out from his girlfriend his solution was to turn her crate over so she could not get out. That did not save her from Thunderfear. I also took them for a play date, and there was fighting in the play yard and no one around to break it up. No I do not recommend this business. I regret ever taking my dogs to them one was to be groomed, and they got tired of doing grooming. But I will never forgive them for what they did to my border collie in regard to thunder and lied to me about it. Positive reinforcement is so much better with certain breeds. Even aggressive breeds do not need to be abused and overtaken by "alpha" he needs to get off of his alpha high horse and remember he's working with animals. He then blamed my husband for her thunder fear. He was telling me to jab my fingers likr a peck & he was doing it. It was UNNECESSARY! She's smart. She knows hand signals and verbal commands. NOT physical pain. They also deleted their pics on Facebook after they were groomed when they were rather new. They did not want a Border Collie or Lhasa Apso "ruining" their brut alpha pack bully image they we're going for. NO I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS BUSINESS. I have been bringing my pup Lucy here for the past 2 months for play care and grooming and Dogmata exceeds my expectations. Every time I drop my pup I am greeted by a smiling face and a warm greeting. The staff is quick to familiarize themselves with you and your pup. The first time I went to Dogmata, before I could even ask I was offered a tour of the facility. The pups have free reign of an indoor/outdoor campus with tons of space to run and play. There is a pool outside for them to cool off and an area under cover where they can chill out on comfy couches. I am just as happy with the grooming. There isn't much to grooming Lucy but she smells like a flower when I get her back and is wearing a personalized bandanna with her name on it :) When you pick your pup up, you get a full run down of what happened throughout the day. My dog is recovering from a spinal injury and when I picked her up I was briefed that they did not walk her as far as the others, and will eventually work her up to it. Another time I picked her up from a grooming session and he pointed out a bump near her dew claw to keep an eye on. It's really amazing how much care and attention your pup receives here. Lastly, I wanted to include that Lucy is one spoiled pup and gets away with murder on the home front. While at Dogmata she receives basic training commands and I can already see a difference. My dog was also attacked by the bull mastiff. The bull mastiff has killed before (izzy) but is being "rehabilitated". He came out alive with puncture wounds. After I got the bull mastiff off of my screaming dog. My dog was blamed for getting attacked because "he walked into the pack scared". The pack is full of domineering GS and dobermans, and of course killer mastiffs. I don't blame my loveable goldendoodle of being scared. My dog had been there several times before this incidence as well. The owner Robert reluctantly paid for my vet bill. But even if the bull mastiff was removed from the pack I would not recommend this facility to anyone. The pack that is there 24/7 is full of domineering animals that bully the dogs that come for daycare/boarding/grooming. I watched it happen way too many times during my times there. If you value the life of your house pet (yes dogs are domesticated these days-not pack animals!!!) then don't take your dog to be dog bait here. We brought my dog in for grooming and Robert and Erin being so sweet we ended up staying and talking. We had a few questions about my dog interacting with other dogs and behavioral problems. Without any hesitation Robert attacked the problem and walked us through what exactly was going on and how to fix it. HE WAS AMAZING!!! We stayed for awhile and Robert was just so welcoming and informative. Sometimes us humans need to be trained so we can properly train our fur babies and Robert is exactly who can do just that. I cannot express how blessed and thankful to have found Dogmata. We ended up boarding our dog Oliver for our trip that same day instead of leaving him with our dad so he could help us solve other issues. I brought my dog there 2 years ago and was very impressed with the owner and how he helped me. I insisted that my daughter stop by today and get information about training her new puppy as a service dog. She is a Disabled Veteran and needed some guidance in training a service dog. The VA has programs to help train service dogs unfortunately there is a waiting list of approximately one year. I had no idea that Dog Mata had changed their policy and made this a private members facility however that should have not mattered when she walked through the doors for information. My daughter was very pleasant and directed another customer in front of her and made the comment that they could be helped first as she was wanting to get info on the training program. The woman working at the reception desk had over heard her and immediately chimed in and YELLED at her telling her that Dog Mata was for members only and if she wanted information she would have to leave and send an email requesting info. If you know anything about Disabled Veterans you would understand the Sensitivity that lies within. I received a call from my daughter shortly after she walked out of there, my heart was broken when I heard her crying...All I have to say now is: Shame on you for treating your customers with no feelings or respect. We couldn't have been happier to have found Dogmata Boarding and the owner Robert when on vacation in Panama City! We boarded our year old labradoodle here for four days and she was in great hands. The day before we dropped her off we had to bring her in for an evaluation. They wanted to make sure she wasn't aggressive and would be able to handle the training they provide along with boarding her. I appreciate this as a dog parent because I don't want my baby around another dog who would attack her. Robert, the owner, is AKC dog trained certified and he cooks these doggie-delicious meals for the puppies to go with their food. Our baby, BrieBrie, came home happy and trained. She use to pull on the leash but after her stay and Robert's advice, she walks along side is with no problems! And she has stopped jumping on people! The price for boarding is $30/night! So reasonable! When you arrive they give your dog an evaluation, show you the place, and welcome you to come whenever you want, no need to call first. there are three different areas for the dogs to roam freely. They can be up front in the AC, in a large room where they eat and sleep or in the back where there is lots of room the run outside that also has couches under an open outdoor room so the dogs can lay that has running water to drink. Everywhere there large couches for the dogs to lay comfortably! There is someone with the dogs from 7am to 7 pm every day! This is so important since I've known of other dog boarding places that keep the dogs caged on weekends for over 20 hours and just stop by to let them out and feed them, then put the dogs back into the kennels. No way! However, at Dogmata, I know BrieBrie and any dog is safe, happy, well-looked after, and comfortable! I appreciate their pickiness in choosing which dogs are allowed to be there, I appreciate their expertise and love for all four-legged pals! We've been taking our bichon frise puppy, Saylor, to Dogmata since she was 4 months old. We were impressed with previous reviews and felt excited we found a place like Dogmata to train our puppy and socialize Saylor with other puppies and dogs. Over the last several months, we've been so happy with everything Dogmata has taught Saylor and also what they've taught us! Robert and Erin treat Saylor as if she were their own dog. They have trained Saylor to do many tricks-sit, lay down, stay, here, forward, roll over, leave it and also taught us how to continue the training at home. We bring Saylor to Dogmata once a week for playcare and she absolutely loves it! Every time we are a block away from dropping her off, her tail starts to wag and we can tell how excited she gets. She loves Erin and Robert so much. Aside from playcare, we also have Saylor boarded with Dogmata when we go out of town on trips. They take the best care of her and we always feel so confident that our puppy is safe with Erin and Robert when she stays over night. We feel so lucky that Dogmata is a place we can bring Saylor for training, playcare, boarding and oh and I forgot to mention grooming! They do it all! Their passion and love for the dogs is a blessing and we are so thankful we can entrust them to take care of our Saylor! I find it strange that the positive reviews on yelp are from people that are from West Virginia and Michigan. That is a long way to travel to have your pet groomed or boarded. I am from Lynn Haven, Florida where this business is located. I brought my dog here Friday morning June 19th. I opened the front door with our family pet on a leash and was immediately run over by a large bull mastiff , who then grabbed our dog Hero by the neck leaving several puncture wounds. I was able to get the dog off of Hero and pull him inside locking the mastiff outside. A staff member then appeared and I began to tell her what happened. She asked me how my body language was when I walked in. I was surprised by this question to say the least. The owner walked in as I was telling the female staff member what happened. He also accused me of walking into the business in a manner provoking an attack from the "gate keeper" which is their words not mine. As I mentioned before this happened on the front walk of the business. After sharing on Facebook , many people have come forward with similar stories and at least one where their pet was killed here. This incident with a large bruise on my arm trying to get this aggressive animal off our Hero. I hope this review will keep this from happening to anyone's pet in the future! We boarded our Lab/English Springer mix there ONCE. When we got her home we noticed she had a single puncture mark through her back quarter. When we contacted the owner he said that he doubted that it happened there even though we emailed him the pictures. He said he contacted his vet before calling us back and the vet supposedly said he didn't think it could've happened there because the wound was too fresh. (????) The owner was unapologetic and refused to pay vet bill as well because he would have noticed it if happened there and personally taken the dog to the vet. He also said that bites come normally come in with two puncture wounds and doubted our story. The dog was with him for 4 days and nowhere else. I understand that dogs will nip or even get rough playing but his lack of care and concern coupled with his refusal to acknowledge that an incident had even happened is troubling. If he had just informed us that an incident occurred and they had treated the wound and she was okay it would have gone a long way with us but he didn't. I had been quiet about this until a friend commented on a Facebook post about another dog showing a single puncture mark wound from the same place and felt like I needed to speak up as well. In addition we had told the owner that our dog was defensive/scared as well and he assured us that he would have her properly socialized by putting her in the yard with a submissive male first and would have her socialized. In other words he led us to believe he was some kind of dog whisperer as well. Apparently he's not what he pretends to be based on my experience and comments from several others. I just realized that photo of the other dog being discussed on FB is the same one listed below. read more
