After intake, I was told in June 2021 that my case looked great and document gathering would take 9-12 months. It didn't. I followed up repeatedly with little progress -- July 2022, December 2022, still incomplete. Only after three follow-up emails in one week did I get a response: on February 15, 2023, ITAMCAP confirmed my documents were complete. Total time: 21 months against a quoted 9-12. In hindsight a red flag, but I chalked it up to COVID-era delays and moved on. With documents ready, no consulate appointments were available for over two years. My sister, filing under the same 2021 contract, got an appointment through her location and proceeded normally. I couldn't, so ITAMCAP recommended filing judicially through the Italian courts -- quoted at roughly 1.5 years. I agreed on May 3, 2023, while still watching for a consulate opening. In January 2024, I was told my paperwork had been sent to Rome and we were just waiting on a court registration number. In March 2024, a consulate slot opened up; I asked ITAMCAP which path was faster. They advised staying judicial, since my case was "already filed" and documents were in Rome awaiting a registration number. I cancelled the consulate appointment based on that advice. In November 2024, news broke of an impending "Minor Issue" ruling that would limit how many generations back citizenship-by-descent claims could reach. My sister and I asked ITAMCAP how this affected us, and after repeated follow-ups got a response in February 2025 -- 1.5 years after being told the case was filed, I was now told their legal team was "still reviewing" my file. When I pushed back on the contradiction, ITAMCAP backtracked, said they miscommunicated, and claimed it actually had been filed months earlier. The law changed in March 2025, with a cutoff date: cases filed before March 27, 2025 would still fall under the old rule. Based on everything I'd been told, I believed I was grandfathered in and simply awaiting a court date. My case was heard in Rome this summer and denied. ITAMCAP's owner told me the retained law firm presented the case, but it was denied because it had actually been filed in March 2026 -- over a year past the cutoff, and more than two years after I was first told it had already been filed. Going directly to the law firm, I confirmed the real timeline: they didn't receive my documents until January 2025, and didn't receive power of attorney until August 2025 -- five months after the cutoff. My sister, filing through the consulate before the cutoff using documents from our shared 2021 contract, is on track to obtain citizenship. When I raised these discrepancies with owner Giorgio, he took no responsibility. He pointed to ITAMCAP's internal Airtable log; when I noted it had gaps that didn't match the dates I'd been given, he told me to just trust him. When I asked for the Airtable data to document the gaps myself, I was told records were no longer maintained. He also argued ITAMCAP bears no liability since they don't issue documents or citizenship decisions -- a position I reject, since per our contract his team was responsible for compiling and submitting materials and managing the law firm. When I requested documentation -- proof records were sent to the firm, correspondence confirming the 2024 filing, or court records -- I was told it would only be provided if I first signed a liability release. I declined. I've since filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Giorgio maintains no false statements were made, framing this as a "disagreement over administrative status terminology." I disagree. I was told explicitly, in writing: "the attorney did not just submit your case to the court -- in fact, your case was submitted several months ago." The case wasn't actually filed until over a year after that statement. That's not a terminology dispute -- it's a false statement of fact that cost me the ability to pursue other filing paths. Giorgio himself acknowledged the case was denied because it was filed after the cutoff, two years after I signed the contract, yet takes zero accountability despite written evidence of the misrepresentation. I'm happy to share that evidence with anyone who asks. My frustration isn't with the outcome -- I understand the law changed. It's that this was likely preventable, and Giorgio won't own his company's role in it. I would strongly discourage anyone from working with ITAMCAP.
