Perfect Cornettos!…read more We stumbled upon this pasticceria because our holiday home host invited us for coffee here. And our host also bought the cornettos here, which they delivered daily fresh for our breakfast. After the coffee we bought some cookies (were good) and pastry here. But the real treat here are the different varieties of Italian Cornettos (creme/chocolate filled croissants) you can buy here. They are absolutely divine! Fresh, crispy and different kinds of fillings. We enjoyed the custard and chocolate filling the most. These are - until now - the best cornettos we've ever had. We tried several other pasticcerias on our 5-week trip through Italy. Nothing came ever close to these croissants. Other products were fine too....but the cornettos are from a different planet. So, if you are in Formia....or anything closer than a 100 miles....check out this bakery! There are some tables too, in case you wanna sit down and enjoy a coffee or so. Prices - especially for this quality - were fair as well. Not to be missed!

The White Bakery is the best American-style retro breakfast place in town…read more It is also the worst. It is the only one. Which is already an improvement over not having any at all. The three Italian reviews are glowing. I'm only giving it three stars, but that is only because I think they are capable of improving. This sort of dining experience is what many Italian tourists to the US enjoy most and the nostalgia is evident. I miss it too. What they do right? The decor and style are stellar, kudos to the interior decorator and those who made the final decisions. The wait staff are also very helpful and kind - could be better but they are on an upward curve. There was a bit of confusion as to who ordered what, but they lost no time in correcting the error and making us feel wanted. The apple pie is stellar, as are the hamburgers (some of the best in town). Saturday and Sunday brunch are a bit rigid in the offering, just 8 fixed menus plus desserts, but I can understand the organization aspect. Low points? Three euros for a beautiful and decent doughnut is a bit steep for an American, used to looking at is as a great but low on the ladder breakfast food. Also, the pancakes were pre-made and re-heated - a definite no-no which makes me never want to try the french toast. And the milkshake was (and I wonder what the Italians who gave this high marks were comparing it to) horrible. Not bad as in taste, but it was obvious that ice cream had nothing to do with the production process. Where they trying to imitate a Starbucks frappucino? Despite these major no-noes, I will be going back for the American coffee, ambiance, apple pie and the burgers.

Italians are known for their pastries, and I've had a lot on this trip, BUT this one tops the list for Pescara in terms of cozy ambiance and flaky crusted pastries -think cannoli. Think cannoli with a creamy center and perfect shell. For me, this seems to be the hardest pastry to find correctly made. The shell's usually too thick or not crispy enough, or they'll even screw up the filling ---sooo if you're here, LOAD UP and count calories later. It'll be worth it!! Side note: Bundt cake was great too with a hot cup of tea. Even if you're a few miles away, make the trip. You can thank me later. Ciao & enjoy! S

Located just a quarter mile away from one of the largest and most majestic palaces in the South…read more You will find a cafe deli that serves up not only the typical coffee and sweets but a bar of homemade style potatoes vegetables lasagna and chicken preparations. We were starting to say the least having just come from Rome and this was our 1st stop along the auto route. Before taking the 3 hour long trip of the museum and the palace up the road we decided to get some nourishment and we were not disappointed neither and quality nor and portion size nor price. All of the specialty deserts appear to be made by one of the finest pastry shops in the South and appear to be fresh and imported daily. The coffee of course was impressive. But what was most notable in this shop was the homemade style lunch entrees. The potatoes and onions were so well seasoned and went well with the breaded chicken cutlets that was hammered thin and breaded and fried to perfection. They make a home style macaroni and cheese casserole served in your own personal pot and it was delicious. As we sat and ate at the high tops we could see that this is clearly not a touristy destination but one for all the locals who are coming in to grab them swept self a quick bite a coffee or a hot pressed sandwich. And of course if it is the Winter season don't forget to pick up one of the many selections of panetone a breads that they have on display. The street parking is tough but if you only need to walk a few blocks to the West you will find a public parking facility that has its own well kept restroom and the rates per hour were very reasonable.
