I had no idea we had a Dollar General in Concord if you're penny pinching and need some kids craft stuff this is a good go to. The store is organized. The staff is quick to check people out. Be careful what crafts you buy as the stamps we bought where the ink was dried up. On the other hand for $2 you get little craft Santa's and Snowman's your kid can paint! "Dollar General" What a joy it was when "Dollar General started moving their stores out " West". The nostalgia, the memories and joy these stores bring me is really like a piece of my childhood. What is that you ask? Well having been born in "Arkansas" and having loved back and fourth between there and "Texas" till my family decided to come to "California". These were the value discount stores I remember. "What's Special about Dollar General?" Everything is special about "Dollar General" or "DG" as I affectionately know it and kinda the slang word my family in the South and Midwest use to use. Just like those other establishments you know, the one that says they're only "99¢" and the other one with the "Tree" or "Family" depending on where you live. Not everything is just a dollar anymore....let's get that out of the way first. But what you do get at "DG" is consistent and the offerings actually IMO is better than what the competition has to offer. I like the "General" in the naming because they're basically telling you that everything isn't just a buck, but generally speaking a great deal of things are. "What you should expect...." Great deals and an expanded amount of offerings that you won't see at the competitor stores. At "Dollar General" the stores often times are in areas where the markets are very convenient for shoppers. Here you really could go grocery shopping, buy your toiletries, get your general household items, even self care products, and for you people that like your "Spirits and Beer" they got you covered. A true one stop shop really, especially if you don't feel like going to a big box retailer and dealing with long lines and annoying people, especially during this day in age. "Conclusion" Dollar General Concord: Sits right off the freeway on Solano Ave in Concord. Service: The service here needs improvement, often times the staff seem annoyed people are in the store, like.... we're the ones supporting the store so that it stays open. I came in looking for snacks, floss and small gifts for my niece and nephew. I was surprised to see so much stuff in dollar general, being that it was my first time here after having a massage nearby at Green Leaf Spa. There were so many kid toys such as nerf guns, Barbie's, puzzles, you name it! The store is like a Walgreens but a little bit on the cheaper side, but definitely not the 99 cent store or the dollar store. I would receive my weekly advertisements and sometimes I'd see a flyer from the Dollar General. I never knew there was one located in Concord. Because of its name, I assumed it was just another dollar store type place. Umm...I was wrong. It's like a smaller scale Big Lots to me. I finally went to Dollar General today because I needed to pass the time waiting for my birria tacos at Carnes Jalisco and they were both located at the same strip mall. Here I was thinking I'd find a lot of dollar priced items. Nope. It was basically a general store, hence the name Dollar General. So I just read where DG is settling with the state of Ohio for like $1million. The consumer is the one getting jacked and I think it's crazy that these corps can steal billions and just get away with it. The consumer is paying the price for the great and deception. I used to shop there all the time for nick knacks but had cut that down to a quarterly trip and now I may have been in there twice in about 18 months. If they'd pay a decent wage and hire competent people who actually cared about their jobs they might be able to put the correct prices and products on the shelves instead of misleading the general public. Dollar General is not a dollar store. (A little confusing with the name and all, I know.) Dollar General is a discount, general store. They have a little of everything. A few weeks ago, we noticed an alcohol license application notice in a window of the larger corner spot in our local shopping center. This obviously prompted a closer look. I then consulted google to find more information on the company. Fast forward a few weeks, and the store is now open! Having never been to one, I was pleasantly surprised. It is a nice sized store and clean and bright. I perused the aisles and took note of things that I will definitely return to purchase, including cleaning products, cards (2/$1), medicine, etc. Dollar General has a nice balance of name brand and generic products, all at competitive prices to Target and Walmart. They have a decent selection of frozen and canned/dry goods but no fresh meat or produce. (You can go across the street to Solano Market for those items. http://www.yelp.com/biz/solano-market-concord) I picked up a few items that I needed and chatted with one of the staff. She was incredibly nice and filled me in on some of the stores polices...such as no minimum on check card purchases but no cash back. California is starting to feel more like home to my Texas-native wife, after 9-1/2 years of marriage: Dollar General just opened not far from our humble abode. The food has a definite Southern feel to it. Brands and off-brands that you'll find nowhere else in the Bay Area. Staples like chicken & dumplings, beef stew, and gravy for your biscuits. It functions as the neighborhood general store. As was mentioned below, this is NOT a dollar store where everything's $1. Of course, I wouldn't expect a 3' tall nutcracker to be $1 (it was $30). But I found several things that I could buy at Dollar Tree or 99c Only for $1 and they were pricier here. They still have good prices though, and a wide selection of household goods. It's one block from a freeway entrance, so it's convenient. You may want to hit Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree, though. Unless, of course, you want a quick trip south of the Mason-Dixon Line without hopping on a plane. read more

Went in to the store and had the worst experience i ever had. Went to buy stuff and once at the register I asked to use the bathroom. The snobby cashier said it was not for public use. I AM BUYING STUFF FROM YOU. The "manager" came over was was even ruder than the cashier. I had a 6 yr old kid with me! Guess he is just going to pee in your store then. I asked for the corporate number and I got a fake number. What type of service is this. If your bathrooms aren't for customer use than take off the sign saying just ask for the key. I've been shopping at this location for the past 5 years since moving to Concord. Employees are always nice and always pretty helpful if I have a question. Juan, the store manager is always very friendly and always asks if I need help finding anything. I shop here a lot for toys and snacks for the kids. What I like a lot are the hours of operation! This location closes at 10pm! which is awesome because its not far from my house when I need something quick and dont want to go to a big department store to get it. Lexington, OH, main Dollar General store, at Orchard Park Road and Lexington Avenue. After being a regular customer at this store since their opening, years ago, I had a horrific experience today 6:00pm - 6:30 pm. The 'Manager" ( I will be polite and not mention even her first name) was new to me, and I hope she won't be there long. She behaved like she has never heard of covid-19, and has never heard of public health, common courtesy, or customer relations. "Her" employees followed suit. Despite numerous signs admonishing customers to have their faces covered, none of the employees did, including her! After I brought it up to her, she hastily put hers on (just temporarily). She was, at the time, handling bags of candy, food products. She was full of excuses, for herself and others, for not following proper precautions. Another employee wore a scarf around his neck (that won't protect anyone), another wore it half-on, a customer in the back had zero face covering at all. ONE nice, elderly gentleman customer had his mask on properly ( covering nose, mouth, and chin). He was the only one to comply with this, besides me. I really struggled with finalizing my checkout (yes, the problem Manager cashed me out, touching all of my items...uh oh...), I thought of walking out without dealing with her anymore. Since I needed the one otc pharm product, and wanted the others, I allowed the completion of the purchase. I told her I had no interest in giving her a hard time, I wanted her and her customers to stay healthy (in one ear and out the other). Dollar General, PLEASE, counsel the female brunette manager at this store, she cashed me out 18:24:21 pm on 8/20/2020. My husband has been doing our shopping during this pandemic. Dollar General Market store is close and convenient. I used to work part time at this location a few years ago. Yesterday 4/3/2020, he went to get items we ran out of. Eggs that were not more than $2 dozen are now $3.75, bread $4 loaf. They are price gouging and this needs to stop. Big businesses that are providing an essential service should not be doing this, as there are folks who can't afford basic items due to joblessness and other circumstances. The employees here are awful to say the least. I live very close to this location. And I'm at the point where its better for me to just go out of my way to a different store because of the bad experiences I've had here.. Firstly, I ran in to purchase a phone charger, I bought one that stated that it works for all Iphones (which it didn't!) it was a charger that looked slightly different than the iPhone chargers (i think it was an andriod charger) but i didn't realize this until i walked out of the store. I walked out the store and realize that it was not the same charger for my phone. So I come back in and say "excuse me can I return this charger because its not the right one for my phone?" and the employee who rang me up by the name of CHRIS was still standing there where she rang me up and said "no" with a major attitude. I pointed out that it said it was for all iphones and asked if I can just exchange it for the right one. I mean I literally realized it was the wrong charger when I walked out of the store.. I cant believe she wouldn't at least switch it out for me. I tried to explain how that the packaging shouldn't say that if it wasn't true, i was being very polite (I work retail myself btw) I didn't want to be difficult but i truly thought that it was kinda ridiculous that she wouldn't let me return it or at least exchange it.. but whatever. So she decided to start yelling at me when i pointed to the charger end and my iPhone end to demonstrate that it wouldn't fit. Now that she decides to start yelling at me, we start arguing in the store. She was like "wow how could you not see theyre different!" "Well that's too bad" like who talks like that to a customer? She is one of the RUDEST people I have ever met. She was pursuing the argument with me and I was the one trying to be calm and polite. This happened a few months ago... Tonight, one of our lightbulbs broke and so my mom decided to run over to pick some up before closing... oh but wait she cant because they close their doors early when they are supposed to close their doors at 10pm. So if you want to grab something last minute before they close don't count on them to let you in even if its before 10. This place is ran by the most impolite people. I don't live to far from this location and have never been to a dollar general before this store. I've been there several times and although the prices are great the staff appears to give off the vibe that you are bothering them when you need to get checked out. Almost every time I have been in this store the staff is on the floor weather its lining the product on the shelves or just BS'ing with other employee's they will see you standing there and take their time and not even acknowledge the fact that you are waiting. A simple "I'll be right there" would be nice. Today I had the pleasure of walking up to the register, the girl behind the counter is pulling the drawer out of the register while another male employee walks across the floor talking about how he "needs to leave", the girl pulling the register out lets another employee know there is a customer waiting (all while have a big'ol sucker in her mouth), the employee that is supposed to ring me up looks at the cashier while I'm standing right in front of her and says "where's the customer"?. She then laughs and I finally get to pay for my items all while hearing about how she needs to leave to. It gets to the point were I will gladly go across the street to the Solano Market and pay a little bit more cause at least they are nice/friendly. Which I have done on several occasions. I'm not saying I will never go there I just have to convince my self to go in there because I know the staff isn't great. The manager or owner of the location should really look into staffing the store with people that actually give their customers the impression that they care or want to be there and can also provide better customer service. read more

I scored several toy items that were originally $2-$5 each for 10cents and 20cents the most I paid was 50cents for a couple of toy items. I also scored girly slippers that were originally $5 each or 50cents each! They have a lot of $1 items like the Dollar Tree in generic cleaning and handyman home supplies. No great sales in name brand Beauty and Cosmetics and home cleaning supplies in general. With coupons I also scored 50cent Clairol Hair Dye which was the primary reason I hunted this place down. Originally planned to spend roughly $20-$25 bucks on hair dye they only accepted 4 like coupons and spent roughly 6bucks and change. Overall spent $75 on crap I really don't need but it was damn good retail therapy! Husband came out shaking his head but i was cheesn from cheek to cheek...SCORE!!! read more
