I saw the Hy Vee on the way to my hotel and I new I would be back later for some stuff for the fridge which I'm not going to bore you with. Hy Vee reminds me of Meijer with the great produce as you walk in and the great deli cases as you round the store and let's not forget the nice fresh seafood case. I was able find everything I was looking for and and get out quickly because unlike Walmart they have plenty of registers open with friendly people waiting to help you.

While I have encountered a few genuinely nice employees here, the vast majority I have interacted with seem visibly bothered or impatient that you are even approaching them. This is especially true at the customer service and returns desk. Instead of being helpful, the staff often comes across as rude, impatient, and overly interrogative about simple return requests. I frequent other Walmart locations and regularly experience helpful, kind service, so it is disappointing that the Galesburg store consistently struggles with basic hospitality. It often feels like you are a burden just for being in their space. I hope management can invest more time into customer service training, as the current atmosphere is incredibly unwelcoming.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of keeping local businesses open and thriving, but I will humbly step off my soap box, and continue on to share my love for this beautiful business. As I get off the train from San Francisco and search up local restaurants, I come across Cornucopia, a hybrid business model that has both a deli and a market with great prices and a bigger selection than most stores I have seen. With curiosity in my head, and a growling stomach, I set off to walk the entire 3 minutes it takes to get to Cornucopia from the train station. I need not say the location of this place is great. The moment I walk in, I am greeted by both the delicious smell of Indian food as well as a nice woman by the name of Susan Lyon. She tells me that this is not only a family run business, but a business run by all women, and Susan (with her husband) are the founders. After our greetings and conversation, I walk to the deli where they had a fine selection of foods from sandwiches to curries. I order the coconut curry (a popular dish, from the words of the man working there) with turmeric rice, and a cup of coffee. I cannot understate the amount of flavor it has, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cannot do spicy food. I also see their selection of bulk spices, frozen meals, supplements, and everyday use items like toothpaste and shampoos. I walked out with a smile on my face, and as the cold Illinois wind hits me I feel longing to go back to the warmth of Cornucopia once again, but my train was to leave soon. I enjoyed every moment of this business, and I will always hope that they expand their business to California. If you ever are visiting Galesburg, Illinois, please make sure to go here. We were pleased to find most of our shopping list items (fresh fruits, deli meats and cheeses, bread, soy milk, trail mix, tissues, and beer). The only thing that they didn't have was shelf-stable soy milk, which we prefer to refrigerated milk when we travel in the RV given space constraints. The store was clean and well-organized. The check-out cashier was friendly, efficient, and accurate. Parking was free and plentiful. One oddity was that you need to deposit a quarter to get a shopping cart, returnable when you return the cart. BUT, I didn't have a quarter with me so I had to fill and carry my shopping bag as I shopped. I'm sure it wasn't their intention but it served as a deterrent to over-shopping as I'd have to carry any spontaneous selections! We would return to this store if in Galesburg again.

When you walk in there is the chips, snacks, chocolates in the first row then beer in the back along the refrigerated wall. There is milk, cheese, hummus, etc. An unusual amount of pet food and accessories like dog beds as well as housewares that take up 1-1.5 aisles. Maybe 4 aisles total in this Aldi.
