Almost immediately after walking in, I saw two pieces of old sheet music that I wanted to buy - one for me and one for my sister. They were a bit overpriced at $29 each, but they were in good condition and both titles meant something to me. I walked through the store and looked around at other things, and as I was looking at some books in the front I couldn't help overhearing a conversation between the woman at the cash register and a couple of adult customers. They were joking about a display case holding such things as a Little Black Sambo book, and a 78 rpm record set "Tales of Uncle Remus". I understand that is their right to sell this merchandise. I used to own a copy of the Uncle Remus set myself, and I sold it. But that wasn't the point. The conversation that took place between these three people - joking about "what if certain people saw these things, they might set the store on fire", and the cashier made some racially insensitive remark about rewriting history. No one's asking anyone to rewrite history. But I will not spend my money in a store owned and operated by racists. Of course I guess most of their clientele is entitled old white people, and good for them. But this old white man decided not to spend the $58 on those two pieces of music, or the $55 on a metal shelf that would've been perfect for his loose sheet music, or the $225 on a piece of original artwork depicting Ignacy Jan Paderewski at the piano. (Their description said it was Poe, but they said they weren't sure. I don't think they were being misleading in their description.) What they *were* being is racist. And they lost my business. And they lost any of my future business.

Rated poorly for customer service. My wife was looking at some books that were by a sign that said…read morethey were $2 each. A woman that worked there came up and took them out of her hand. My wife said that she would like to buy the books, but the woman said, "No, I can't sell them for that price" and put them back on the shelf. She took the $2 sign down and refused to let my wife buy the books. It was bizarre and we felt very unwelcome. Nice selection if they let you buy it.

The patrons and workers take care of this store. I don't know how long it's been open, but it doesn't have the "tired" feel of most discount stores. And it's neat. Things aren't all piled up on each other in any random area; each section is separate and where you would expect to find something it's usually there. I didn't initially think of Deals as a "dollar store" but there are a lot of things that are $1. If I had kids, I come here every other month or so, give them $10 and let them go crazy. And if I were just starting out and not sure of what I needed, I would come here to buy dinnerware, glasses, etc. The prices are comparable to (and in some cases lower than) Wal-Mart and Target, so why deal with the parking and long check out lines of a bigger store? PROS: -I actually have found some really good deals in this place in decent -condition! : Washer and Dryer with dining table with three chairs (all wood) and delivery = $150.00 (although we found out later that the bottom of the washing machine leaked, but it wasnt bad at all). - The One dollar grocery store have some really good deals on some good items such as dollar bread and dollar darjeeling tea (that is usually quite pricey) - it is indoors, away from the elements! -there are some very interesting characters and items around CONS: -There seem to be less and less vendors so there is not much of a variety going on. -There were a couple of times that I wanted to purchase an item and they gave me a price that was way too high for the item (needless to say, i didnt buy it) -There were too many occasions that the item that I bought from the dollar grocery store like cereal or tea HAD BUGS IN THEM ... gross... - And please be careful when you buy food from the dollar grocery store, because if you dont pay attention, you will end up buying an item that has expired two years ago! Before we begin I am going to provide a link to the USDA government website explaining what expiration dates really mean, which is completely different then likely 95% of people think. https://www.fsis.usda.gov/food-safety/safe-food-handling-and-preparation/food-safety-basics/food-product-dating Wilson's focuses on purchasing overstock merchandise, stock from companies going out of business, stock from major retail sources who product is about to expire or that has expired. This could be paper/dry goods, vitamins, refrigerated/frozen items, appliances, clothing, and other items I may not have seen. This saves those companies sending it to landfills and wasting it. Wilson's then turns around and sells those items at absolutely incredible low prices. Due to the above they don't have a normal stock of items. The inventory and products will constantly change depending on the lot of goods they buy weekly. Can you say Treasure Hunt each time you visit! Dont let the outside of the building or its simplicity fool you. There are deals in here you will absolutely never, ever find in a regular store you normally shop at. Wilson's is in a location away from major retailing centers. The outside/inside of the building, signage, and parking areas could use a little updating. All of the employees I encountered were very helpful and busy. The inside is divided into two sections. The back area has the most dry goods, restaurant supply items and part of a freezer section. The front portion of the store has a couple refrigerated sections, another freezer section and some more dry goods. One thing to me which was of a potential concern was the freezer section some of the items we partially frozen and not fully frozen. Now this could be from it not freezing properly or it could be due to the product not being transported properly. The items that I did encounter like this weren't of a critical nature that it would have impacted quality though. Quite a bit of what I encountered was larger restaurant size goods or food size cans. Some was hotel overstock food. Examples of what I found. 1 gallon Ken's Honey Mustard, $2.99, 30 count package of brownies with cookie on top 99 cents, 1 gallon frozen chili 2.99, large restaurant size chili con carne 4.99, large tray of milk cake 1.99, large package of diced onions 99 cents, 22lbs of frozen chocolate chip cookie dough 4.99 large package of instant potatoes 99 cents, market street package of beef stew 1.99, and so on. They had much much more than I mentioned, but you will just have to get there and check out this little hidden gem of value. The sign out front does say to bring your own bags and boxes, just an FYI. They do have shopping carts inside. Pro-Tip: I brought my very large ice chest to make sure all my cold items stayed at the right temperature. I filled up a 119qt ice chest. The whole shopping cart stacked very high ended up being only $123.79. Try spending that low of an amount at your grocery store for a whole cart full of items...
