I've loved art all my life, not just painting but all the mediums. After moving to the bayou just…read moreafter Katrina, I searched high and low to find a creative place, sadly none existed. Then one day I heard a gal taking at an Art Versus event that she would be opening an art studio and gallery in Thibodaux. It took me awhile to search it out. Then in April of this year I visited Stephanie Donaldson's space after an art walk in downtown Thibodaux. The Purple Penguin offers both classes for the young and young at heart (adults), as well as open studio time or a space to hang or display your art for sale. Stephanie and her staff offer group or private art classes, Corks and Brushes painting, paint your own pottery, hand building and wheel throwing ceramics, mosaic stained glass projects, raku, glass fusing and crafty projects. They also host Birthday parties, Bridal and Baby showers, Date nights (yep drop off your kids and they'll feed them, create with them, so you can sneak off for a few hours), Ghost nights (channel your Demi Moore/Patrick Swayze with this hot and heavy throwing night), Kids camps and more. As an artist i am always looking for new ways to bring my creative dreams to fruition. In California, I love working in ceramics and when I moved here I tried to find someplace that I could buy Kiln time. I searched high and low and eventually gave up. After discussing my needs with Stephanie, she explained that she offers several options to outside artists that allow them to work in the studio or in the comfort of their own studio and bring work in to have it fired. I at least had met my angel and was welcomed into heaven.....This is a great place to get your creative ya-ya's out......

Her studio seems to be all one could hope for if one had an artistic bent...the studio contains several rooms devoted to different artistic disciplines from painting to pottery to glass work....They have already made pottery for you to purchase and paint/glaze or whatever you do with it...They also have some Oyster shells that have been glazed that one could use as serving trays for shucked raw oysters or for doing chargrilled ones...pretty neat! This seems like a real cool place and the people seem genuinely into having people get into & love art! Whether it be beginners or people with more skill!! If you're in Thibodaux or the immediate environs and are into creating or just thinking you might like to give it a whirl I suggest you make the PPAC your first stop!!!

This location has a huge bakery with a large staff, and a larger selection of fresh pastries, cakes, pies, donuts, breads and all things carb-o-rific. I saw 4 different varieties of cheesecake that you could buy by the slice that almost made my inner fat boy cheat on his very lackluster diet efforts. I chose to keep walking past but I'm still regretting it. There is also a cafe inside with a nice salad bar and hot food selection that you can purchase by the pound and either eat it there at one of the many tables or take to go. The produce selection was pretty large and seemed to have a decent selection of organic veggies. The meat market was one of the other stars of this store. Butcher on site, huge bone briskets were in the pre-packaged case, large seafood selection and a cabinet with dry aged beef! The alcohol selection is also pretty impressive. A large variety of liquors and wine. The lady friend sent me in for a Malbec and there were at least 10-12 to choose from. The beer selection is really nice for such a small town. I'm not sure I've seen a bigger selection of singles in a grocery store setting before. My only issue is they didn't have any Ghost in the Machine this day. If I lived in Thibodaux then this would be my go to store

When it was being built I thought, why build a gas station across from a gas station? Tucked in what appears to the naked eye as a simple gas station/convenience store is Donuts & Deli. It's no secret I'm from California as I reminiscence often of cool balmy beach weather as I swelter in the humid heat of Southern Louisiana. Louisianians love their snowballs, but we Californians LOVE us some donuts. We have as many donut joints as you have snowball stands, maybe even more. After hearing about this place ( from darling Alexis), I was eager to get my hands on some donuts. They serve a selection of classic donuts, glazed, chocolate, Bavarian cream, jelly filled and sprinkles. But then.......a wide grin as big a the Cheshire Cat creeped across my face as I eye spied a cinnamon roll as big as my head. The little Alice in Wonderland within me jumped for joy as I drooled over the various donut holes and miniature apple fritters, perfect for any mad hatter tea party. We order the giant cinnamon roll, chocolate covered donuts and jelly filled holes, all delicious! I thought I'd try their original potato, filled with the yumminess of bacon bits, cheese, butter, sour cream and green onions for a whopping $3.29 ....their menu includes sandwiches, burgers and smoked meat lunch plates....it's was obvious that some knew about this place as a dozen or so worker guys were chowing down at tables located inside..... And I was assured that the sign is coming soon....... What I discovered, even though my name isn't Alice nor did I follow a white rabbit down a hole....is that I won't have to travel far to grab delicious donuts or a bite for lunch.......Donuts & Deli gets the California stamp of approval, I'm a fan!

I explained my situation: I found the ring I want online and decided after talking with my boyfriend that we'd rather buy local and get better quality on a ring that is supposed to last a lifetime instead of buying it cheap online and getting what we paid for. I asked what is the process to get an estimate on the ring and the sales lady helped me write the email and gave me directions on all the information that was useful as well as what I could leave out and how the process worked. She explained that the owner's wife would receive the email, make the necessary changes in wording, then send it off to their jewelry designer and that I should have an estimate in a few days. Possibly by the end of the week. I got home and found the rest of the information and sent the email off as I was told to and within a few hours (after hours for the business) I received an email stating that they had received my request and thanking me for my interest in their business and reassured that I would receive an estimate in a few days. While this happened recently and I haven't received the estimate yet I can assure you that whether it is the amount we are willing to spend or not I am thoroughly pleased with their service as a business.
