You get to check out and it's more. So I'm checking out in the self-check-out, blue cheese doesn't ring up "sale price". Now as we all know there's an app with digital coupons etc and there's just sale price that you need do nothing for. Lol!! Until today!!this is going to be the longest review over $1.25 ever. Ever have to prove something and go through so many steps that at a certain point you can't just walk away without that $1.25 because the person "helping you" is really just irritating you, prolonging the process every step of the way? So I call the lady there to "right wrongs" over. I'm going to tell her that the sale cheese that was 4.99 but marked sale for three $ something is not ringing up: it goes like this. As she comes over I'm ringing up a frozen dinner or about to, and notice it's been package taped on one end. I put it aside. She arrives saying, you don't want that? Me : no it's been taped.. instead of saying ok, she says where? I think "let me help you with your job so I can get to the question" and show and really just say "here .". She starts scrolling thru my screen of rung up items.,?? What are you doing? I ask. "Looking to see if you rang it up." "No I did not" ..Just ask? So I say I want to ask you about this cheese. I tell her the story. She says did you check your app to see if it's there. "Yes I have an app but no as I said it's a sale item. Regular sale." So I have to go to the app to prove it is not there. She takes my phone from me after I try to find digital coupons to prove this.. after she keeps saying no no the other way.. then she takes it and says no.. I'm losing patience that this is not simple. it's a dollar 25 folks. Just take my word and adjust it. She says it's not on sale either. I say well the sign over there clearly says it is. She: do you want to go take a picture,,, me yes... So I do and she grabs my phone away and starts off with it.. I tell her do not take my phone away from me ..you are never supposed to do that. She says I need to take to customer service to see if I can adjust it. OMG I'm thinking.. so I say I'll just leave it, ring the rest up and take it over myself.. now granted and I did point this out.. the sign says, in small letters at bottom of tag I did not notice til picture, on the top highest shelf, sale thru 10/29. It is 10/31 but it should be taken down then. Finally go to customer service show the photo and get my dollar 1.25 back. At this point I was not going to mention you should have refunded the 4.99 so I'd get the tax back too and re-rung it, but at that point I raised the white flag and got the heck outta there. And guess what? normally I just pay the 4.99 right or wrong, and go home and now I know why. But like I said I felt I'd put so much time into something that should have taken seconds..,Just omg tired of expired dates, stale frozen seafood(which reminds me I have some to take back) and wrong markings for prices. I had to write this as a last straw get your act together call out.

I'm probably wrong, but it seems bigger than the ones closer to me in the Crystal Lake and Algonquin area. I felt like navigating this location was simple and intuitive. The aisles seemed wide and comfortable to walk through without having to navigate around other shoppers. Lastly, the greeters here were very friendly and bright, not the typical sad and tired "hello"s that I'm used to. It's too far for me to go to regularly, but when I'm in the area, it's a great go to.

Still, the prices are on the average way higher for some standard items that I can get elsewhere, which makes it hard for me to shop here in general. The quality was high, and the prices for the convenience were right on. Mariano's remains for me the place to get the one or two hard-to-find items and that's it.

I have also bought things from the bakery that have been marked down and they have been very stale even though the sell by date was one to two days into the future. So a couple days ago I buy this pork prepackaged and not entirely inexpensive and I go to cook it today. It's been in the refrigerator and the sale by date is tomorrow, but it looks so discolored and old. I'm not even going to try to open it and smell it. I'm taking it back tomorrow and I'm really sick and tired of taking things back to the grocery stores that are rotten. It is a drive to any of them and i may or may not have enough time to drive back, find a place to park, and go in and take care of business. I have ended up just throwing things out like little bakery items that were a couple bucks or a sandwich that was three or four instead of eight or six dollars. I think my days of shopping at Mariano's are over. Definitely stay away from markdowns, Also Their prices on most things are not cheap but I will say usually their full price fresh veggies and fruit are good and fresh. Hard to go from place to place for this and that though.

The produce was lackluster in volume and choice and priced at or higher than area prices for in-season fruits and vegetables. Specialty items were definitely at a premium. There were some aisles with ethnic finds such as Greek, Italian, Polish but skip the deli and looked more like a hangout for locals at Angelo's - prepared foods. Next to that area appear to be what once was fish and seafood now filled in with random sale items. It was depressing and disappointing. It looked more like a store that was getting ready to permanently close.

I was scrutinized for not having my groceries in the order that she wanted them to be in, even though she did not put them in a cart She just piled them on top of each other. The people behind me were criticized for not putting their items on the conveyor belt, even though they only had one item and the conveyor belt was wet. Overall, just a gruff rudeness from whoever was working as the cashier on Sunday, August 24 around 5:30.
