She let me know that this barbeque has a Hawaiian theme this year. It was news to me. I remember reading a message saying to wear sunscreen and dress appropriately because it would be a scorcher. I don't have an obnoxious Hawaiian shirt to wear. I said to her that I'd hit a dollar store to find some leis. It's exactly what I did today after I had fetched dinner. I was near Richmond Hill. I did a search and found this Dollarama, which was four minutes away. This Dollarama is located in a huge plaza. I have been here before for Pi Co and Chatime. It was nice to check out a different business. I found a parking spot fairly close to the main entrance. I backed into a spot and walked in. This store is organized like you'd expect from a modern Dollarama. You walk in and kitchen accessories greet you. Around the corner were gift cards. I needed leis. I went to the party section. I didn't find any at first. Instead, I walked around the store. It's a decent size. I didn't get any food, but the shelf-stable ramen and pasta were impressive. I also liked the beverages. I walked around the store a second time. I found leis! They were indeed in the party section. I had plastic leis in mind. These had that fake flower feel that made them slightly elevated and classy. I got a few for my colleagues and me. They were $1.25 each. I got the colourful version as opposed to all red flowers. The best find was a cute Squishmallow. Bolivar is the sweetest scorpion plushie. I had to get him at the low price of $5. Yay! I hope that this store offers more of them. I went to pay for my items. The lineup was fairly short. My wait was perhaps a minute. I had a woman at the checkout who opened up when I said hi and asked how she was. Sometimes, it takes a bit of interaction to get folks to smile. I paid for my items with a debit card. I tapped and was good. I collected everything, wished her a great day, and left with my purchases. I'm glad that I thought of hitting a dollar store for leis. Sometimes they're on a roll and have good products, loll you into safety and you let your guard down and then bam, spoiled food starts again. And now, the last couple of weeks, dairy is also spoiled. I noticed that they took all dairy out from the fridges one time, next time they put them back. But they were all spoiled. So it looks like the fridges malfunctioned, but they're still selling the spoiled food. I wonder who makes these dangerous decisions? I'm seriously considering not renewing my membership this year, because my options are driving an extra half an hour to a well run store or gambling with my family's health

Our little one likes Spider-Man and so here we are. They also offer other items that are not Marvel. Some items you will find at this store: keychains, cups, water bottles, food storage containers, silverware, socks, bags, pillows, cell phone accessories, shirts, stuffed animals, travel neck pillows, toy cars, backpacks, etc. The cashier, Nadine was super sweet and had a lovely personality. She wrapped up our items neatly. It was so nice talking to you! This is an excellent place to find gifts for that Marvel fan in your life.

There's hand sanitizer at the front (basically within every store) and you can't enter without a mask. This store has a small section dedicated to Marvel products, however they sell their regular home and everyday affordable essentials/items like convenient tool kits, sewing kits, house slippers, skincare, logo-less bags and coin purses, to kitchenware, stationary, workout accessories, underwear, light-support sports bras and stuffed toys/baby-toddler toys. A lot of their items are affordable, and some on the pricier side depending on what you purchase - like a rechargeable "juicer" for $29.95 or so but I think it's really just a personal blender that comes with a straw so you can drink from it although not sure how good it really is. Highly recommend this place for a lot of decent finds, although sad to hear Miniso will be closing down (not sure when).

The rest of the store is a whole labyrinth of home goods like beauty, kitchen tools, home organization, snacks, and craft goods. Again some rare finds exist, so it is well worth a look. I personally bought calligraphy stuff that was cheaper and more convenient here than buying it online, and they had related supplies like writing pads, practice paper, etc. The Japanese trinket/souvenir section stands out to me because you can get things that are rare to chance upon elsewhere. The ceramic darumas are well priced, and I've bought other cute traditional figurines there. Overall there's a lot to see in this store, to the point where it feels overwhelming to browse all sections. I keep my visits targeted and short so I don't wear myself out looking at 200 pairs of similar looking chopsticks. Also, sometimes the prices in this store are questionable, but I browse knowing overall it's fair (case in point for weird pricing - tiny plate $2, significantly larger medium size plate for $2.25). The stationery section was great. I saw everything from disco ball pens, to notebooks. Across from this section were stickers that were fun and cute. The beverage section stands out. It's fantastic. There were bottled, canned, and electrolyte beverages. Powerade is a steal for $1.75 a bottle. I especially like that this store carries the zero sugar versions. The food aisles are also great. I found taco seasoning, marshmallows, canned tuna, and more. I ended up getting a pack of ramen. I'll make some and see how yummy it is. There was a woman getting balloons for a birthday. There are Covid restriction instructions on the door and posted immediately inside (it is cold after all, might as well read them indoors). There are instructions to bag your own items and to not use your own reusable bags while you're browsing and to use their baskets instead. There is hand sanitizer before the second set of doors going into the store. There are arrows on the floor indicating which way to walk down the aisles and social distancing stickers on the floor at check-out. I guess I haven't really paid attention at the dollar store but they really have all kinds of interesting stuff. I know that during the initial lockdown, weights and other fitness equipment was in short supply. I did see that they had small hand weights available. This location had a pretty extensive pet section with a better selection of dog toys and treats than most grocery stores actually. The line up was pretty long and next to the sweets aisle so I walked a path of temptation and somehow emerged without any additional sugary treats despite all the Valentine's, Easter, and very well priced goodies. If you do have a sweet tooth, the full-sized chocolate bars are a lot cheaper here - usually less than a dollar vs the ones at the supermarket.
