While the clerk didn't speak a lot of English, I was able to use my limited French enough to be led to the correct aisle for men's flip flops. Had forgotten mine at home and would need them for the swimming pool where we were going. What luck! They had only 1 pair in of any size stock,... and they were my size, (i.e., Men's 40 European,) and cost only $5 Canadian, excluding tax! After checking out, realized maybe I should also see what they had in terms of wrapping paper for several gifts I was giving out during my trip. What a spectacular selection and price! Chose two different celebratory tissue papers and one colorful cello wrap! And they together cost $4 Canadian, excluding tax! Perfect! In fact, this experience made me think that, given people just throw out the gift's wrapping paper, I'm only buying it dollar stores in the future, especially if you get a deal like this! Dollarama is a Canadian dollar store retail chain headquartered in Montreal. Since 2009 it is Canada's largest retailer of items for five dollars or less. Dollarama has over 1400 stores and has a presence in every province of Canada; Ontario has the most stores. If I compare to the US stores, I would say it's like a Dollar General or Family Dollar, where most things are less than $5. But it's not like a Dollar Tree, where everything is $1.25 or less. This particular store is in the Pointe St Charles section of Montreal, steps from the Charlevoix metro station. A bit of history on the Dollarama store chain...The first all-dollar store was founded in Montreal in 1910 by Salim Rassy, a Lebanese immigrant, whose name became Rossy. His son George took over the retailer in 1937 and led the company until his death in 1973 when grandson Larry Rossy assumed leadership of it when it had 20 stores. The discount retailer grew to 44 stores by 1992 which until then operated under the name Rossy S Inc. (not to be confused with Rossy Michael, a similar chain founded in 1949 by another son of Salim Rassy. That year, Larry Rossy opened the first Dollarama at the shopping centre "Les promenades du St-Laurent" in Matane. By the late 1990s, Dollarama had become by far the primary source of revenue for the Rossy family. As such, the Rossy S chain was discontinued by the turn of the new millennium, with all of its stores either closed or converted into Dollarama locations. After converting all the locations to the dollar store concept, The number of stores in October 2021 was 539 in Ontario, 379 in Québec, 134 in Alberta, 111 in British Columbia, 42 in New Brunswick, 41 in Manitoba, 40 in Nova Scotia, 40 in Saskatchewan, 25 in Newfoundland and Labrador, and 5 in Prince Edward Island. This liquidation store offers a wide assortement of goods ranging from food, toys, household (bedding, decorations, kitchenware..) clothing and electronics. It is essentially a discount store that sells refurbished items that were normally sold at Costco for example, food that could be close to their best before date, discontinued items, "rejects" and other mistmatched goods. Most items are new and in great, unopened conditions. Other times the packaging could be damaged without affecting the quality of the item. There are many similar liquidation/outlet centers within the city that offer these types of deals, but this particular location caught my eye because they sold things I've never seen elsewhere. For example, they had frozen Mcdonalds chicken nuggets - a 1 kilo bag for 10$, which was roughly 50 nuggets. These are the real thing served at Mcdonalds restaurants and came directly from the supplier. We baked them at home and it was a hit - the whole family loved them! It's a fun place to shop if you want to come often since it's like a treasure hunt. You never know what you'll find. We ended up also buying some cheap Keurig coffee Kcups, chocolates some beauty items and a blanket. Small family run business with great service. School supplies, bachelorette party, baby shower, engagement party, house party, BBQs, Christmas decorations, home improvement, cleaning supplies, car accessories, baking and cooking supplies, knitting, sowing, craft and art supplies, and so much more. One of the things that sets them apart from other dollarstore's is their large collection of balloons and their ability to blow them up with helium. Each helium balloon costs $0.50, you can call ahead to have them blown up and just come pick them up. On weekends there is usually a line up for the helium so if you need a lot of balloons best to call ahead. You can buy your own balloons elsewhere but if a balloon pops while it's being filled with helium, Forêt will not replace it so best to purchase their balloons. Forêt guarantees that their balloons are helium certified. Forêt is also a family run business. The owners speak English and French. A review below mentioned that personnel didn't speak English but I've been coming here for years and never had a problem. The store is very busy, the best way to get service is ask at the cash which isle a specific item is located in. Forêt is such a gem, the south shore is lucky to have it!

Anyway, so I was first introduced to Treasure Hunt at Dixie Mall in Mississauga. It's a big outlet store with everything from clothes and shoes, to toys, housewares, bicycles and tools. In my opinion, a lot of their stuff is junk, but there are hidden gems for those with the time and patience to look. When I was there, they had some Banana Republic dresses for $30. They also had lots of Athleta (the athletic wear brand owned by The Gap) pieces for $4. They also had lots of brands that were of no interest to me though, like George from Walmart and Merona from Target, so I had to wade through those, but hey "treasure hunt" is the name of the game, right? ;) Admittedly, the cool stuff was only in sizes 00-4 and XXS-S, so good for the likes of me, but if you are a larger size, you may not have the same luck. They had lots of discount toys, but most of the boxes were opened or pretty bunged up. I was at the Brockville location a few weeks earlier, and the selection at that store was better in my opinion, and the prices were lower for certain things too. Ollie's is a liquidation center where you can find all kinds of brand name items for less. When you first walk, you'll notice a large selection of books and toys. There's also lots of food and household items, some clothes, beauty products, decorations, bedding, electronics, hardware, etc. I found some lovely Yankee Candle large signature candles for $7.99 when they are normally sold full price at $30 at the Yankee store. Things to take note - not everything is a great deal, if you shop at Costco or Sam's Club you may notice similar or cheaper prices there - for example, Kcup coffee pods - not so cheap at Ollie's. In terms of clothing, there's a limited selection, many outdated styles by today's standards. I saw a bunch of genuine leather jackets which looked like they were from the 90's or early 2000s, sold at very low prices (under $20). There are tons of large carpets and rugs on display, ideal if you need to redecorate, also great selection of bathroom towels and matts. It's the kind of place you need to check back often as the stock varies greatly.

This is a good location, right near UQAM. Some of my favorite wine glasses have actually come from the Dollarama and it's also a great place to get greeting cards in French. Additionally, there's a number of drinks and snacks. It is the best place to buy sponges, plastic gloves, dusters and other cleaning products- so cheap. Also, they usually have a good selection of gift bags, wrapping paper, tissue paper and other things for the holidays. At Halloween, they have cute decor items, some even in French. They now accept Visa (they used to only take cash).
