I hate having to leave this as all the other experience has always been amazing. This was the first time we stopped by after the name change for brunch during pride weekend on Sunday. There was already a good amount of people waiting when we arrived. They actually were able to seat us right away on the side where the street was at one of the high top counter. Don't think people wanted those seats. One section was empty which we asked if they could moved the umbrella a little to shade us and the other section. We couldn't sit there as we were told that it was for a group of three that was waiting already and they requested it shaded. Ok, so we can't share the umbrella.... Anyway, we sat down and did move the umbrella a little where it would shade everyone but the hostess came back minutes later and moved it back. And of course, the group didn't even sit there which they ended up putting two other people who didn't even care if the umbrella was there... Enough of that. Service was on the slow side. It did take a while till someone came over to take our order as well as brought over some water. Menu did look similar but I'm not sure if they added new items on the menu. After we ordered which did take a while a drink did come out. I had to walk over to the bar section to ask for a straw. Appetizer did come out pretty fast which was the onion blossom. It looked amazing, a little salty but good. The waiter that brought it out for us, I asked for an extra side of dipping but that never came out. As for the main, the honey chicken sandwich and the breakfast croissant. Well, when the dish came out, one of the order was wrong. Instead of croissant sandwich, it was a breakfast sandwich instead. Server was a little taken back and asked the waiter which they looked somewhat confused. Don't know if it was an honest mistake or they just put in the wrong order. Anyways, had to wait for that to come out. Again, still didn't get any extra sauce which I ended up walking to a table to grab some ketchup instead. One of the server did notice but was like whatever. Rarely did we get checked on until I asked for a refill which was once the whole time. When the bill came, I had to ask again. Not once did water get refilled the whole time till the end. Service was just not the same as prior visit. I don't know if it's new management or just a change in name but it wasn't a nice experience. The food was good I give that but service this time, major fail. Hopefully it's not alway like that. Visiting from out of town, I joined my sister at one of her regular weekly spots where she meets up with friends. I felt lucky to tag along and experience it with them. They had recently updated the menu, so she was especially curious to see what had changed, though disappointed to find that her favorite, the chicken tenders, had been removed. We decided to share the honey chipotle sandwich and the gem Caesar salad. The salad was fresh and the dressing was on point, though it could have used a bit more greens and maybe some bacon for extra flavor. The sandwich was tasty but leaned a little heavy on the honey sauce for my preference. The standout was definitely the fries, perfectly crispy from a double fry, topped with fresh herbs and absolutely delicious. The interior has a warm, inviting feel with wood furnishings, and we enjoyed a nice ocean breeze throughout our meal. Our server was pleasant and attentive. This place is actually pretty good. It's a small little restaurant in a less crowded area of Long Beach. Not as busy as Belmont Shore. It's a little dark inside and they play some pretty mellow music. We visited on a Thursday and I guess on Thursdays, it's "Happy Hour" all day. I wasn't very hungry so we didn't get anything from the Happy Hour menu. We both actually ordered the same thing, the short rib melt. It comes with garlic fries. The sandwich is pretty good. It comes with mushrooms and some spicy peppers. I don't do spicy so I kept those out. I wasn't in the mood for dessert or anything but maybe next time. The customer service was good. We got a great spot outside, although I do feel like the outdoor tables are pretty small, even for just two people. Still, we wanted to sit in the sun. We started with the coconut shrimp. What made them unique was the seasoning, it gave the shrimp a savory flavor, while the crispy coconut panko added just the right amount of sweetness. They weren't overly sweet like most coconut shrimp, and honestly, they were flavorful enough to eat without the sweet chili sauce. My husband ordered the Backyard Burger and really enjoyed it. His garlic fries were crispy and not overly garlicky; more like regular fries, which he loved. The star of the show for me was the fig & blue burger. It was like eating a charcuterie board in burger form. The fig jam, blue cheese, patty, and bacon all worked perfectly together; sweet and savory in the best way. The only downside was how messy and sticky it was, but that's how you know it's good. The side salad was just okay, but it's a side salad, so I didn't expect much. So damn good! All of it! We had family visiting Long Beach from out of state and decided to make a touristy type evening out of it. I booked us a whale watching boat ride and then dinner reservations here. The boat ride ended up getting in way later than expected and we called the restaurant to let them know we were running late. They were so accommodating. They nicely explained that as long as we showed up, they would get us in. I greatly appreciated it, since we had two, hungry, young kids with us too. As it turns out, I wouldn't recommend going on the fourth Friday of the month, unless you're also prepared on going for the exercise. It's market night and the parking is horrendous - like parking a mile away and that's with good luck! Most of our party seated and started on some plates and drinks, while one was gone on a good 40 min drive/walk back trying to find parking. Inside is not very big, and only one restroom, but they all made it feel so welcoming, that we didn't mind at all. Plus, it was great for people watching and the food and drinks really were all top notch. I was drinking the Thai Fighter cocktail - freaking amazing and I could have drank that all night long. There were so many things we wanted to try, and ended up with a lot of apps - fried calamari (loved that these weren't traditional style, much thicker), mamas meatballs (tender, not dry, loved the bread, should have asked for extra sauce to drown the bread in), poke nachos (very good), kung pao wings (loved these!!) , coconut shrimp (huge, perfectly crispy, great spicy sauce), clam chowder (perfect), and a bacon burger with garlic fries (again, perfect all around). The flavors were spot with each and every dish. And I definitely want to come back to try more. It all worked out for us in the end. I've stopped by here for drinks plenty of times, but this is my first time staying here for a sit-down dinner. I came about an hour before close and the service was still very friendly and accommodating-- I did not feel rushed to leave because it was close to closing time. The waitress made some great recommendations on specials they were having that night, like these beautiful, delicious lamb chop lollipops that we got as an appetizer. For cocktails I got the Golden Hour and the Thai Fighter. I really liked this Golden Hour drink, it had a very punchy passion fruit flavor that was extremely tart and fruity, which complimented the cocktail very well. I come here just for the Thai Fighter sometimes, and I have written my love for it before! I love the gingery sweetness and the little tomato they use for garnish.  For food we got lamb chop lollipops, which were served with a delicious, freshy, zesty, tangy tzatziki. This was a special for the night, but I would highly recommend it if you see it. We also got the chicken pot pie and the spicy garlic shrimp pasta. The spicy garlic shrimp pasta was good, but it was lackluster and a bit expensive for what you get, honestly. It wasn't bad, but I would probably get something a little different next time. The chicken pot pie was stellar! The pasty was flaky, crispy, and soaked up the gravy really well. The sauce was thick and creamy and had a great flavor of chicken and simmered vegetables. Overall, I recommend The Social List for date night if you enjoy a good cocktail, standard American fare, and a calm, welcoming vibe. Parking is tricky with its location on Fourth Street, but it's nice to park a couple of blocks away in a nearby neighborhood and walk around before and after your meal. read more

Cocktails were necessary because there was a lot of "tea" to spill. I got the special "Lychee Old Cuban" - a delightful blend of rum, lychee, vanilla, mint, lime, & prosecco. Laurel had the Thai Fighter and Te-See the Golden Hour. All three cocktails were picturesque. Sometimes I regret having a small appetite because there were several items I wanted to try. Eventually, I decided on the Chinese Crunchy Salad - chopped romaine, shredded carrots, edamame, red cabbage, green onion, mandarin oranges, crispy chow mein noodles, almonds, & cilantro tossed with a toasted sesame dressing. I enjoyed the combination of textures and flavors. Laurel had the Cacio E Pepe, which looked delish, and Te-See got the Cobb Salad, which also looked good. My boyfriend and I decided to go to the Social List last night, especially because we heard that they had a Halloween menu. From the moment you walk in, the restaurant is decked out in fun decor for spooky season. It helped get into the swing of the season. Our waiter was attentive and I decided on the Ghostbusters cocktail and the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice pasta. The cocktail was sweet and tart, the perfect mixture. Such a cute place to have brunch in LBC. It is small but totally worth it. My friends and I went here for my birthday brunch. Pros: I was very surprised at how yummy the chicken and waffles were. A unique twist by it being bacon and jalapeño and cornbread. Went super well with my Bloody Mary and the Bloody Mary deviled eggs. Definitely coming back here again with my friends. Popped down to LBC last Sunday for their Good luck Vinyl Club event, which took place from 5-9pm. The theme of this weekly event is centered around vinyl record selectors of various genres. That week the DJ was KOTA (from Stones Throw Records), that spun soul, funk, and boogie! I want to mention that the music played that day was family friendly, and stuff that would be enjoyed by all generations--nothing offensive or too wild. They also had a $6 wine pour special during that time. This spot is equally bar + restaurant, catering to good times and family. You can feel the vibes as soon as you enter! The menu was awesome and had something for every taste. We tried the poke nachos and grilled chicken sandwich. Both were excellent! They also had some interesting cocktail specials that day and I tried the banana one which was delicious and unique! Service was also top-notch and we felt very taken care of during our leisurely dinner and drinks. Never felt rushed! Friendly folks also; had a few chats as I waited in line for the restroom lol The restaurant itself was really awesome to modern but cozy and really like the indoor outdoor vibes. Lots of metered parking for a reasonable price. Their menu is so extensive, it was hard to pick! From brunch foods to burgers and chicken pot pie.. there's something here for everyone. - Japanese Smoked Brisket Sandwich: Out of the two things we ordered here, we liked this one more. The combination of slaw and wasabi ginger mayo with the smoke brisket and BBQ sauce was a great combo! The slaw and wasabi ginger mayo broke up the savory flavors of the brisket and BBQ sauce and overall felt well balanced. The unfortunate part of this dish was our upgrade to the bravas style potatoes. The waitress highly recommended it, selling it as "crispy" potatoes.. but it was just soggy, overdressed, and incredibly disappointing. We wished we hadn't paid extra for this and would rather have kept the default garlic fries. - The Napolean Burger: The disappointment was real with this one. When reading what was in it on the menu, it sounded incredible at first. But this burger was lacking some sort of veggie or "fresh" element. The beef patty, braised short rib, gouda fondue, deep fried onions were all too heavy of a combination. Even with the garlic demi glaze dipping sauce, it was too one dimensional. This is a cozy little spot that was still open after 9 as we were walking home from a nearby wine bar. They had outdoor seating along the sidewalk which we took advantage of--I'll take as much cool, breezy, California weather as possible! Especially the nighttime weather, it's just the best. I ordered the Bloody Mary deviled eggs and a bun-less smash burger with prosciutto and patatas bravas covered in a garlic aioli. The burger was extra smashed and super tasty, and the potatoes were picture perfect and tasted just as good, super crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My sister had a spicy shrimp pasta that she loved, just simple garlicky, buttery pasta with big beautiful grilled shrimp and red pepper. Just simple delicious food. The deviled eggs were great as well! Maybe a little too celery-forward for my taste, but I should have expected that considering they were Bloody Mary deviled eggs. Our waiter was so cool and kind. They also have a great little wine list and cocktail menu, and good happy hour specials. And apparently they're known for their brunch. We'll be back on our next Long Beach trip. read more

I've always had great experiences at Socialista, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. I came with a group of eight people, and the service was extremely slow and unorganized from the start. What made the experience worse was the lack of flexibility and accommodation with our check. I was paying for table alcoholic beverages, my dinner, and a takeout order to go. I simply asked that all of my items be placed on one charge, with the rest of the table on a separate ticket. This is a very common and reasonable request, especially for larger groups. I was told this was "against policy" and that they could not do it. However, they ended up creating a second ticket anyway for the takeout food, which made the explanation feel inconsistent and unnecessary. The process became far more complicated than it needed to be and added frustration to an already slow dining experience. Given how accommodating they have been in the past, this visit felt like a major step backward in customer service. Unfortunately, due to the poor service, long delays, and lack of flexibility, I do not plan to return. read more

Wow, I was so excited to try this place based on the reviews and the menu. I was disappointed in several ways by my experience at happy hour and dinner on a late July Thursday. There were just a few tables occupied when we came in, and a friendly host led us to a high top in the small dining room. Our server took a very long time getting over to greet us and take our drink orders. Maybe she didn't like that I ordered only water but I am recovering from surgery so not drinking, and husband had a pilsner (which even with happy hour was $9)! It must not have been the one beer of the day that is $7. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip right away, thinking we would nibble awhile then order some dinner. Well the appetizer took forever. I mean it took so long, that she came back and took our dinner orders. The pacing of the meal was way off. She should have held the entree order and put it into the kitchen when the appetizer was ready. When she finally brought the appetizer over, it was only about 30 seconds before the entrees arrived too. So we didn't eat much of our $14 appetizer ($3 off for HH, so not a very special "special" ). It was a very tasty dip with lots of artichokes and a great Parmesan cheese crust on top. It is oven baked in a cast iron dish, so that's probably what took so long. The thin crispy tortilla chips were great too, we just had hot main dish food arrive too soon and didn't eat much. Our server should have been fully aware how long this dish would have taken to prepare and adjusted the rest of the meal accordingly. I ordered the fig and blue burger ($22) but couldn't decide on a side dish. Explained to the server I had food sensitivities and everything had gluten or white potatoes, which I can't eat. She suggested Mac and Cheese or Papas Bravas. So she basically didn't listen or didn't know what gluten and potatoes are on her menu. I requested the burger lettuce wrapped, and settled on a side salad instead of fries. She failed to tell me this was a $3 upcharge and that it came already dressed with a mystery dressing, so I could not take it home to eat tomorrow because it would be wilted. She let me order a ranch dressing to go on it, then charged me another $.75 for that too. Poor form. The burger was tasty but small. Lettuce wrap was two leaves of butter lettuce. It seemed skimpy. No photos, was too busy trying to balance our plates on the edge of the tiny table where she set them down. Husband ordered the Cobb Salad with blue cheese dressing instead of ranch ($.75 upcharge here too, even though it was a substitution for ranch. which is frankly pretty miserly). He had no complaints but I suspect this wasn't the best meal in the house. He doesn't like avocados so I ate those. Server came back and brought a bowl for our dip and a box for the chips, we paid the bill and left. With tip, $88 for a meh meal. No one noticed when we left. No one said anything. Is this a neighborhood place where strangers are not welcomed or invited back? Or just a disinterested staff? Lukewarm experience all around. We will find a place with real happy hour specials, fewer uncommunicated up charges and a more congenial staff for our next outing. read more
