I once overheard them trying to help a resident who was beginning to get super agitated and he was met with a sustained calm, reassuring, patient voice. In addition to feeling good about their care--it's a nice place to be, it really does have an at-home family feel. After my first visit I had some tears in my eyes on my way out and I could see a lot of care in the faces of everyone I passed who worked there, which was really nice to experience as I feel a lot of care facilities I've visited lack that down-to-earth humanitarian feel. I am glad we chose Valley Haven to care for our father in this small, comfortable ame home-like environment.

I'm particularly grateful for, and impressed by, Oliver's sincere compassion and care for the memory residents in the unit he directs. That's really what sold me on the place immediately, the first day I went, and he toured me through the memory care ward. I was scared to go because I had never been in a locked memory care unit before, and I imagined it would be some awful, dark, creepy, depressing, prison-like place full of anguish and suffering. It was anything but. Light, airy, clean, welcoming, with friendly staff being very attentive to everything that was happening. Every time I visited after my husband moved there, I had this same positive impression of the place. That very first day, I saw how Oliver interacted with some residents--one who was very frightened, and another who seemed very angry--and he just took the time to comfort them, listen to them, joke with them, and acknowledge them. He gave them so much dignity. It was very moving. Thank you Oliver, for doing this important work. Thank you Aegis for providing such a quiet and peaceful place for my husband to rest during his final days.

We went from feeling isolated and hopeless about his disease and situation to feeling empowered and deeply connected to him, ourselves, and the community of angels that support this home. He wanted to die with dignity and that's just what he did, over a period of nine days, nine days filled with so much love that I think it'll keep us floating through the next decade. What a portal that was to sit through with him. We are so grateful for the Tara Home Community for being a part of it-- for every prayer, blessing, chant, song, bedside sit, hand squeeze, meditation, hug, and offering of love. For holding space for him and for us. This experience completely changed our experience of our father's earthly departure. He was ready for so long and we feel so grateful that he got the best final chapter for this lifetime.
