During my stay at Hilton Manchester Deansgate, I decided to order from Pizza Hut being hungry at…read morearound 11 pm, this was, however, a reluctant choice with very few places open which could cater for my dietary requirements, as regular readers of my reviews will know I'm coeliac meaning I have to follow a gluten-free diet.
Located on Oxford Road, this branch of Pizza Hut is in a good, central location and is mainly a "delivery" store, the location makes it in reach of most of the city centre quite quickly, it was just under 2 miles from my hotel and it is also under a mile from Piccadilly, and just over 1.5 miles from Ancoats, all in all so far so good.
The prices of the pizzas were really expensive at first, as I recall they cost over 15 pounds each however there always seemed to be some sort of offers on, to make it even better than half price. I redeemed an offer where I could get any medium pizza for £5, with some pizzas costing slightly more which never seemed to go over £5.75. This is a great offer but then the problems start - like Domino's. you have to spend £12.49 to get free delivery meaning with this offer you'd have to buy 2 pizzas and then combine it with a side (none are gluten-free) or perhaps a large drink and multiple dips. I understand they have to have a threshold for delivery, but it just ruins the offer in a way and the £12.49 mark for me is too high, even allowing a slight fee to get delivery on a smaller order which many other rivals do including UberEATS and Deliveroo would be the way forward?
I ordered a Gluten Free Ham and Mushroom Pizza and a Gluten Free Pepperoni pizza, the bases were really thick and they were just too bland, adding mediocre, low-quality toppings, the pizzas even at £5-6 each just tasted like an expensive nightmare, with my friend's garlic bread everything came to around £17 which shows how quickly the prices can increase even with such deals.
My friend commented that her garlic bread also was low quality, and the only good thing at the end of the day was the temperature of the food, it was all served piping hot, which at the end of the day is useless if the food is disgusting an inedible. It was basically like serving a heated and boxed turd.
The delivery also was a kerfuffle, I asked the driver to phone me when he was outside and I'd politely meet him outside my hotel, however he phoned me far too early and it was hard to understand him on the phone whether he said 3 or 10 minutes (being unable to understand between 3 and 10 is like when places presume my name is Simon instead of Aaron), once again showing poor customer service skills.
Pizza Hut Delivery on Oxford Road might serve up piping hot food at "deal prices" but what you're left with is an expensive mess and I'm sad to say I'm struggling to warrant a rating anything over a single one-star.
