Not to hate on Australia's pizza scene, but when some friends and I ordered some late-night pizza (Domino's was the only place open) we were expecting something at least vaguely resembling the American late-night delivery pizza... big, cheap, and greasy (delicious).
I think we paid around $50 for two pizzas (which only come in one size) and a side of chicken nugget things. I was expecting a feast at that price...
But what we received were two depressingly small, cardboard-y pizzas about the same size as the 'personal pan' mini pizzas children can order back in the States for $5 each or so. The chicken was good, at least.
I guess the late-night delivery and kitchen labor wages are higher here, and this necessitates the exorbitant pricing for what amounts to woefully subpar, undersized pizzas. Still, none of us will ever make the mistake of ordering late-night pizza here again. You're better off just eating an apple or something. On my next visit back home to the States I'll have to get a delivery pizza, with a newfound appreciation for a $15 pie that can comfortably feed 2-3 hungry adults. read more
