I really appreciated the fact that it was sealed with a clear plastic film on top so there was little chance of leakage unless it was cut or the plastic container was broken. Unfortunately our reading comprehension wasn't so great that evening so we ordered the Mixed Vegetable Tikka Biriani (79 dkk) and one raita (18 dkk per portion) for each of us; not knowing that the biriani already comes with raita and the mains that we wanted are all accompanied by plain rice. This didn't cost much more and they were tasty but it made for way too much food! It was silly of us since it is stated in RED at the top of the online menu. =_= The dish I was most looking forward to was Chicken Vendalu (85 dkk) which turned out to be only moderately spicy for me. On the menu, it warns that the dish is very spicy but I didn't feel that it was. Even my friend who doesn't like food to be that spicy said he could handle it. He got the Chicken Butter Tikka Masala (95 dkk) which tasted OK but was honestly a little boring. I think I have only had that dish once or twice before so I'm not sure how it is supposed to taste when made 'authentically' (yes, I know it probably originates in Britain). My other friend had Lamb Palak (95 dkk) and it had great texture and flavour. We all got a portion of garlic naan (20 dkk) to sop up all the sauce with but I feel like Naan House does it better. I also had mixed pickles (8 dkk) which were nicely sour and a little spicy. Overall it was good and I didn't get sick but I was expecting the vendalu to be spicier and more flavourful. The price is good for the amount of food that you get so I'd try it again.

That said, this is the spot to try if you want to taste the famous "LêLê" menu without going to the actual fine-dining restaurant. Unless of course you have the $. Great spot for a cool salad and Vietnamese ice coffee on a hot summer day, but flavors are not authentic enough to satisfy my vietnamese food craving. Salad was just regular greens with a simple sauce, nothing I couldn't make from my own kitchen. Vermicelli roll was OK, again nothing special, making it seem overpriced even for Copenhagen. I think a lot of it has to do with the branding - they do a good job of spreading themselves throughout the city, making themselves known to the Danes who will find the cuisine new and interesting. Good, fresh picnic food. I'm glad they don't pre-make their rolls. But overall, I wouldn't recommend LêLê, as there are other more affordable, more bang-for-your-buck options if you just do your research. Hint: Do you want real, tasty, authentic vietnamese food in Copenhagen? Go to Nha Trang in Nørrebro!!! All main plates are around 100 dkk, AMAZING Vietnamese coffee. Seriously, GO!

There are two LeLe's up the street from each other and this is the more informal of the two. And this was like a "carry-out" type of restaurant with limited seating. I met the owner of LeLe who talked about her upbringing in Vietnam and the blood, sweat, and tears that went into opening and maintaining her 3 restaurants (and also cook books and I think TV appearances?) and it makes sense why the food is so good. It is truly authentic and hasn't been Westernized. I am dying to go back to Copenhagen just to come here again!
