My platoon had executed and competed in Lasertag, Bubble soccer, dodgeball, combat archery, chilled out ate lunch (you are allowed to bring outside food except drinks. You buy drinks there which is pretty cool still). During break time my platoon occupied themselves in air hockey, basketball, and their gaming stations! It is a Fun, epic and amazing place! I have been to dozens of rural towns museums throughout Texas. This one though is the Diamond in…read morethe group. On our recent trip to Gatesville we found this gem. Its claim to fame is that it has over 6,000 different spurs, which is the Worlds largest and part of a 10,000 spur collection. You will see spurs that date back to the early 1800, along with Jackie Kennedy's spurs and those worn by Poncho Villa. This place has two floors, housing thousands of rare antiques and artifacts. It is huge, covering a City block with unique artifacts, to include Native arrowheads, millstones and clothing. It is very tastefully laid out with an antique soda shop, a historic school classroom, a transportation section displaying Ford Model T, a full scale log cabin/jail and numerous antique farm equipment, including a huge old case tractor and other early farm artifacts on displays. You will see a full scale doctor's office, a dentist office and partial hospital, displaying artifacts dating back to the early 1800. This is the single most impressive place I've visited in years. We spent two hours in it and didn't see it all. This is a must see museum. It has a gift shop loaded with very interesting merchandise for sale.

I say hidden because it does not look that big from the outside, but has a lot inside. It was so nice to have visited on their first day of reopening due to getting a new elevator (it has two stories). The volunteers were so sweet and offered up their knowledge on the displays, which was truly appreciated. There is so much history here including the Lloyd and Madge Mitchell world's largest spur collection and stories behind these extraordinary people. I appreciated the diverse history in the museum. There were so many displays and narratives posted, that it would take all day to read through it all. If you appreciate Texas History, it's definitely worth experiencing this museum. I'd like to pop in again if I get the chance to read all of the narratives that I didn't have a chance to get to last time. The hours were: Wednesday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.

I've been here plenty of times throughout my military career and every time I roll back in, it looks the same and somehow even smells the same. That weird hit of nostalgia only a soldier would understand. Nothing flashy, nothing new, just Fort Hood being Fort Hood. The memories tie you to it more than the place itself. Some good, some rough, but all of them part of the journey. Coming back through almost feels like stepping into an old photo you forgot you took. In all, it's one of those places that stays with you, whether you asked it to or not.

Fort Hood, now renamed Fort Cavazos is my second home. This military base will always be near and…read moredear to my heart. It is one of the largest military bases in the world ranking the largest by physical size against the others. Unique to this base, it is the only place where the U.S. can train two full armored divisions. Fort Cavazos (still trying to get accustomed to the renaming) has everything you need located inside the gates that you would typically find outside the gates in the neighboring "civilian" city. "The Great Place" is definitely loved by many and hated by some for various reasons; however, every place becomes what you make of it. The history captured in the many museums is worth exploring if you've never visited and interested in military history. Personally, nearly 10 years of my life was spent here and reflecting on the great memories and my patriotism keeps me returning. The continued progression and improvement is evident. #BeAllYouCanBe!

For $6.25, I had a catfish basket which consisted of catfish, fries, small container of coleslaw, and sweet tea (you can also have unsweetened, but it's a Southern thing, gotta have sweet tea). Decent portions and taste - better than the fast food restaurants also located on post. It supports the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation fund for the Soldiers stationed on the post. You will be surrounded by Soldiers, former Soldiers working on post as contractors or government employees, or family members. Makes you quickly realize that you are on a military post. Rod and Gun Clubs are found on most (at least larger) Army posts. They sell fishing/hunting licenses, fishing/hunting supplies (rods, reels, lures, ammunition, and some even sell rifle, shotguns, and pistols). Depending upon the posts, rifle/shotgun range(s) are also available.

The stadium was half filled and there was a lack of energy in the building. We found ourselves enjoying watching the band more than the football game. As part of the school policy, they do not sell beer or alcohol during games either. Honestly, I don't see myself going back here. There are better options and plenty of fun college stadiums throughout Texas to enjoy.

It's clean, beautifully marked, great views, great sound system, no line/no wait for the women's restroom (IYKYK), and loaded with plenty of seats. The game day experience is nice also. There's really no dead time here. Every timeout was occupied with some sort of entertainment. Only thing to note: it's a "dry stadium." No alcohol whatsoever, so everyone gets their tailgate drinks in before entering. Overall, definitely a top-tier stadium-- and #GoCoogs!
