Don Don Don Donki, is that how the song goes? hehe.. didn't hear song during this shopping trip but that always get stuck in my head when I am here. Small kid time I remember use to be Holiday Mart, then Daiei and now Don Quijote. I use to love shopping here with my parents for the dipped yogurt ice cream, I think they use to have an ice crem shop at the front of the store. During middle school days we would come here for Sanrio & Leigh's Wishing Well when laminated, personalized cards were popular. Now darn I try to avoid this shop, as much as I LOVE all the products, my wallet doesn't, hehe. I have a habit of buying every single thing. Lets talk about this recent visit, I only need 3 item which is mentaiko to make mentaiko pasta, bread to make garlic bread and natto since I needed a natto fix. I had to get out there quick and try not to stop at every section, hehe. Ended getting extra stuff but all good, I was happy with the extra goodies! Don Quijote does get crazy with parking, lines, feeling of clutter here but despite that I LOVE shopping here & the prices are low, if you can catch it on sale, even better! For someone that hasn't been to Japan, I am grateful that I can stock up on my Japanese products here. I went shopping with my daughter today into the store because she wanted to pick up some beauty products in the little beauty section. We checked out at the beauty counter because you can't go to any other counter. You have to check out there. They have the alarm in case you try to walk out of there for the beauty section and not pay, and that alarm did not go off, because of course we paid with no issues. The nice cashier was excellent . she taped the receipt onto one of the products that my daughter had . we go to walk out everything's fine we're following the crowd. They're telling everybody they can go through. They decide to stop us and my daughter said OK sure no problem. Here's my receipt and then shes trying to show the security guard her receipt, he ignored her ,and he tells me while I'm telling him I'm not the one that went shopping my daughter did. I said this is our bag that we brought in. She's trying to show you the receipt and then he looks he like ok thank you then he tells me what about this bag I said what about it? I said this is my purse. I had an aloha bag by the way from the Aloha store and I said oh let me guess you want to search it so unzipped it and he goes. Yeah if I could, he looks in there he goes OK that's fine. I said yeah have a good time with your profiling he told everybody else they could just go through. He didn't check theirs. I told him I said the alarm didn't go off. What do you need to search us for. This is ridiculous. Out of the 33 years I lived in Hawaii I have never been treated this way. I will not be going back to that store. They can keep it. I'm going to make sure my daughter never goes back there either. I don't care what she needs. She can have Amazon ship it here. They probably thought we were some tourists that didn't know any better . I never stole anything ever in my life. I make enough money that I do not need to and I was not raised that way . Donki is not a store. It is a side-quest. After dinner one evening, my twinsie, "Auntie" Nadine C., turned to me, whispering almost conspiratory, "Have you heard about Don Quijote?" Don Quixote? The titular protagonist of Miguel de Cervantes' 17th-century Spanish novel, often considered the first modern novel? No, not him. Side-quest unlocked: Go to Don Quijote to looks at Trader Joe's-like bags and peruse affordable macadamia nuts. Imagine if a Japanese convenience store, Costco, Walmart, Japanese pop culture, and a late-night snack gremlin all moved into one building and decided to co-habilitate. That's Don Quijote, or as locals lovingly know it: Donki. Don Quijote is Japanese discount megastore in Honolulu where you walk in for one bottle of water and somehow leave an hour later with Japanese cheesecake, body wash, a rice cooker, novelty socks, a plush penguin, Spam musubi, an ankle brace, and at least one item that made you say, "Well, I've never seen that before." Every aisle is an adventure. It's part grocery store, part pharmacy, part souvenir shop, part beauty supply, part snack paradise, and part "why are they selling this and why do I suddenly need it?" The shelves are packed to the ceiling, the signage is loud, the deals are good, and the whole place feels like a treasure hunt designed by someone who drank three Red Bull Kyoho Grapes and said, "More products! More fun! No empty shelf space!" The Honolulu location is also gloriously open 24 hours, which means it serves a very specific and beautiful type of chaos: jet-lagged tourists like myself, night owls craving Japanese curry, and people making questionable but spiritually necessary 1:11 a.m. purchases. Your one stop shop for everything Japanese. If you're visiting Waikiki, this is also a great place for souvenirs - especially for those Hawaiian treats and chocolates. Huge grocery store, tons of great produce, huge dry goods area, and endless options for baked goods and food to go. Wanted to highlight how affordable and delicious the hot bowls and bento boxes were. We got a few to go for the beach and it was perfect. Been going to this Don Quijote for a long time, even before it was a DQ and it was called Daiei/Holiday Mart. My grandparents lived nearby on Kanunu Street, so they took us there regularly for shopping or treats. For me, DQ is the mecca for nearly all things Japanese. Recently went there to pick up some yuzu honey for my sister, facial cleanser, shredded nori, chazuke mix, & furikake mix. Yes, a very ecclectic group but so Japanese! Always enjoy DQ's selection of grab and go items and mix of vendors in their food court outside! Now that I've achieved, ah shall we say senior status, I recently noted that DQ offers daily senior hours between 6-7 am and all day Tuesdays. Dealages! Will repeat and recommend! read more

I was introduced to Don Quijote during a recent trip to Tokyo and was excited to learn that there is one in Honolulu. This store is open 24/7 and is a single floor one stop shop warehouse sized store. Their offerings include, beauty products, food, pharmaceutical, clothing, souvenirs, alcohol, fresh produce, etc. I recommend allotting an hour to fully explore this store. Sidenote, I've heard locals refer to this store as "Donki." This is a good spot for poke, onigiri, deli, and bakery items. The sushi packs seemed to move quickly and I've observed staff constantly refilling the shelves with fresh packages. There's a deli counter with hot foods. I've stopped by to pick up sushi bowls, onigiri, and drinks before heading to the beach. This store has an extensive selection of souvenirs which were reasonably priced. There are outdoor food stalls located in front of the store. Parking in the front lot can get busy, however there is a dedicated multi floor parking area just across the street. read more

Grab a rideshare and find your way to the closest American Don Quijote store. I wasn't a fan or even knew these stores existed but after visiting Japan , there is some fanfare waiting for everyone. This place is clean and just as big as the Japanese stores. Filled with eveything that mankind can create for all age groups. And if you're hungry there are endless sushi dishes ready to go. Hot foods are also available inside and directly outside the store. Makes one miss Japan itself. This will do for now. read more

Great deals. I'm just about everything. Did not know what I was getting myself into when I stepped into Don Quijote, someone told me to check it out. They had good Skincare, but when I went there, I found out they had everything Hawaii for souvenirs. They also had tons of grocery items I stocked up on hard to find items from Hawaii and they had a great sushi section. Great deal on chocolate macadamia gift boxes and also Hawaiian coffee. I also picked up some delicious, smelling soaps and body cream. They had a free parking lot right across the street and also a smaller parking lot in the same area where the store is located. read more

Went to DQ to check it out. Came years ago but it's seems to be updated. DQ has basically everything you could want or need from food stuff, bento boxes, veggies, fruit, sundries, tools, electronics, cosmetics, you name it. I assume many locals come here for their regular shopping. DQ is known for low prices which is helpful in this economy. There are several hot food vendors outside along the front of the store with seating for al fresco dining. For sure a one stop location for all your needs. read more

Wow! we stumbled upon this location while at the Convention Center. There's a large parking lot that was really busy. It appeared to be free. We parked at the Mall and walked over. There's a huge sign that says open 24 hours which is pretty cool. If you have ever been to Japan you are probably familiar with this store. It's huge ...like not as big as Walmart but very spacious for a unique specialty store. There's souvenirs, all things Japanese, cosmetic center, fresh fruits and vegetables, sushi , plate lunches ,and so much more. We got some sushi , a roasted sweet potato, American sunscreen , premium ceremonial matcha tea and avocados. It wasn't cheap or anything but random things we thought we needed. I could probably spend hours and hours there but we had other things we needed to get done. I plan to go back one day to check things out. read more

After being to the Don Quiote in Japan, this is one of my favorite stores. You can find almost anything you are looking for and more. There is a ton of prepared food and if you go later in the day, they do have many of the items like the sushi and boxes on sale. Don't forget to bring a shopping bag for your stuff! read more

A no frills grocery store that has a lot to offer - enough to deem it a tourist destination and a personal must go for us every time we visit. It's a fast casual meal, order inside, picnic tables lined up outside and other restaurants to try too (the Thai spot looked good!) The poke is flavorful, fish is soft and tastes fresh and the rice was seasoned well and still soft as well. I liked the mentaiko of the onigiri but the cheese was like a square strip of Brie? Not my personal favorite. Prices are pretty cheaper compared to brick and mortar poke spots. We also took home some chutoro negiri and the mentaiko pasta which were delicious! read more

If you've ever visited Japan, you know all about Don Quijote. You know about the colorful decor, narrow aisles, multiple floors, the theme music that plays 24/7, and the fact that you can buy just about anything. I was surprised to see a location in Honolulu and wanted to check it out. Like the locations in Japan this store is also open 24/7. It's huge but does not have multiple floors and the aisles are wider. They have the classic penguin mascot out front but they don't play the repetitive music on the speakers. And like all DQs, they have everything: groceries, cosmetics, snacks, alcohol, and much much more. They even have an area for hot foods, poke, sushi, and nigiri. This is a good place to buy snacks and other souvenirs but is just another supermarket to shop in. It took me back to Japan for a little bit! read more

When planning our trip to Honolulu we knew had to make a stop at Don Quijote. And we did since it was our first stop after landing. We got there and easily found parking in the garage. Walking Don Quijote is like a fever dream, but a good one! I honestly wanted to cry! It reminded me so much of Japan and brought back memories. The store is huge, unbelievably huge. They have everything you could need. It's perfect for locals and tourist alike. We loved seeing all the Japanese goods, and found so many things found only in Japan. We loved the different prepared food options. From poke, sushi, rice bowls to bentos. There's also a hot food plates where you can choose different Hawaiian dishes. What's amazing is how affordable most things are. We found that the prepared foods were much cheaper compared to other stores we visited. And even the Japanese imported snacks and other goods were priced so well. Outside the store are plenty of restaurants and picnic tables. Be careful of the birds though. They were definitely not afraid of people and waiting for your scraps of food. Don Quijote is a must visit to find great food, affordable essentials, and fun souvenirs. On a sad note, someone scratched our rental pretty badly in the garage. Thankfully we had the insurance!! read more

My better half loves to shop here for their sake selection and their juices and flavored Japanese bottled drinks. My daughter and I enjoy perusing their cosmetics department. Their selection of skin products and make up is great since the area is so small. They really pack it in! I love their selection of Japanese sauces, dressings, etc. Honestly, I don't pay attention to their ads, although I should. They have a senior discount which is on Tuesdays and applied to certain merchandise. Although there is lots of free parking, early mornings are best to find a spot in front of the store. The reason for the 4-star rating is because there is so much stuff in the store, I sometimes feel a little claustrophobic and afraid that if there's an emergency ... well you know what I mean. Overall, we visit the store at least 3 times a month and almost always spend time exploring new products from Japan while we are there. It's FUN! read more

I stopped in to see what veggies and fruit they had after my dental appointment across the street. They always have a great assortment of fresh produce, with a heavy focus on Japanese foods, especially with the holidays approaching. This store drives me crazy because there's so much packed in it, with little aisles newly created for Japanese cookies and snacks, plus macadamia nut products, 2026 calendars, toiletries and coffee. This is what you see upon entering the store! I bought some apple bananas , some calendars to send to the mainland and a salmon belly bento . This place is popular with tourists but it's way too congested for me and I don't have the patience for crowds. You can't go wrong with their freshly made bentos so it's worth it for that. read more

Don Quijote Waikiki feels like LA's Tokyo Central on steroids! I've been to DQ in Japan and Hong Kong before, but the Hawaii location has a totally different vibe. It's like a supermarket, souvenir shop, fresh produce market, prepared food counter, and a Japanese-style Rite Aid all rolled into one. Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed, maybe even more than at the massive six-story DQ in Osaka! I had hoped to stock up on Ichiran noodles, but they were the same price as in LA, so I didn't want to add extra weight to my luggage. We ended up picking up a few small souvenirs and some fruit instead. It's still a fantastic store, we just didn't have enough time on this trip to fully explore it. If you can't sleep on your trip, this store is open 24/7, which makes it even more convenient. read more

Japanese supermarkets put the "super" in supermarket. I visited this Don Quijote with the understanding that there would be plenty of prepared food available, which would allow for immediate consumption for a Thanksgiving-type picnic situation, which was the case for me and my group of friends. Friendsgiving was elevated by the pie (pictured), the wagyu sushi, the smoothie, the chai shake, the bananas, the rotisserie chicken, the mashed potatoes, and the gravy. There are a lot of neat things to buy here, and I hope to be back soon. That wagyu sushi was really something special. Next time, I will snap a picture of it before eating it. read more

This Asian grocery store has everything at an affordable price...tourist type souvenirs, Mac nuts, noms, veggies, bakery, hot plates, musubi, meats, sprits and of course free parking. Definitely affordable and a one stop shop for everyday groceries or even a quick lunch. On days you are looking for that special soy or miso sauce or Japanese cold coffees or bottled Asian teas this is the place to go. Prices are reasonable so that helps the wallet especially when food has gotten so expensive. Possibly this grocery store is not the cleanest but it's packed with goods. Note though that this place does sell the Japanese rice cookers and tea pots however there is a short return policy. Also, exchanges can only be done by original credit card. It's super weird especially if someone gives you back a gift to exchange. Love that checking out has gotten so much easier with the self service at the beginning and end of cashier lines. 8:00am on a Saturday. Loads of parking. New Donqi shopping bags (sorry, I didn't think to take pics other than the twinkies and the food I brought home.) located near the front entrance. Produce dept is always well stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables and prices are good. Bakery sells loaves of bread that have only 5 or 8 pieces. I love that bc I know I won't waste any of it. Seattle Sourdough Waterfront rounds are $11.99. ($4.99 at T, $4.84 at W) The amount of items in this store is so extensive that merchandise displayed become their own aisles, accessible from either side. Seems like there isn't enough warehouse space for it all. Staff are so very friendly and helpful, it makes my shopping experience so much more pleasant. Store is clean and most items are clearly marked with price signs. The biggest issue I have is the freshness of the snacks. I spent $43 on snacks for my mom and every single bag was horribly stale. When I finally located the "best by" date, they were all expired! How do I make sure I'm not giving some stale garbage as a gift? Also, lots of empty shelves. Don Quijote, step it up and check the pull dates and restock the shelves, unless Is the Kaheka location is set to close. Whhen a store is closing, all backstocked items are pushed onto the floor for quick sale, regardless of expiration dates. read more

Don Quijote was an amazing find. My son had known about them from a previous trip. It is an Asian market that sells an amazing array of products. But the big seller for us was the food. Items that we had never seen before, but turned out delicious. They have lots of food that is hot and ready to eat. Their produce department was top-notch. We had been to a big box store before coming there, in the future I'll skip that other store. Remember when you go to stores in Oahu, you have to pay for bags. Either bring your own, or buy a couple like we did and use them when we came home. read more

Don Quijote is a convenient combination department store, supermarket, and pharmacy. It's one of our go-to places for Asian foods, select fresh fruits and vegetables, laundry items, etc. There's also an okazuya where you can pick up prepared local-style hot foods à la carte. I know that on Saturdays they often have prime rib, so I went there with that in mind for a takeout lunch. (Ray's Café is inconveniently located for me, and they don't accept credit cards.) I ordered a slice of prime rib, which came with a small container of au jus and some horseradish sauce on the side. I also got a small container of fried rice. Since this was all I was picking up today, I asked if I could pay at the okazu register, and the woman said yes. That saved me from having to stand in line at one of the main registers. I took the simple meal home and enjoyed it with a cold soda. read more

This is super fun store from the moment you walked in. It has all the souvenirs and bunch of insulated bags at the front and all the produces and grocery in the back of the store and the side. I didn't really walk around the grocery section but did spent a lot of time in the front and bought insulated bags as gift bags for friends and they were all super cute. Without fail, we stop here to buy gallons of water, prepared foods, snacks and souvenirs galore. I could easily spend hours here because there is so much to take in. I love all the Japanese products available here. Today they had $16.99 for a small flat of 8 strawberries straight from Japan along with a $49.99 melon. I can see them going bad because not many folks will pay that IMO. This shop is open 24 hours a day which makes for a convenient stop when coming from the airport. I was blown away by $5 a dozen. Really? I highly encourage them to charge more because their Andagi is made fresh, light, and delicious. I want them to be here every Wednesdays forever!
