I was writing the feature articles for the group's newsletter and recruited Alex to schedule photo sessions with the dog therapy teams I was going to feature each month. In every case he captured unique moments between the dogs and their owners and the owners later told me how wonderful Alex was to work with; that he used their ideas for photo shoot locations, and made himself available at convenient times for them. When my sister and her boyfriend came to town last year I surprised them with a photo shoot by Alex at the Fairmont Hotel. We were riding up on the cable car to get there and Alex had already stationed himself near a corner of the Fairmont to get some of the first shots. He then trailed the couple through some of the glamorous balconies and stairs inside the Fairmont for some very romantic shots that my sister treasured and posted all over her Facebook page. Soon after I asked Alex to my own home for a natural, outdoor shoot with myself and my two Shih Tzus. Again - Alex more than delivered. I wound up with just the kind of natural (around the neighborhood) shots I had hoped for and immediately framed several of them for myself and relatives as gifts. Arnau was referred to us by our wedding planner, Genevieve Rojas of Lily Spruce, and I was I was impressed that his portfolio demonstrated BOTH technical skills as well as an eye for noticing candid moments worth capturing. Arnau is a lovely person who we enjoyed having around (pretty important) and most importantly: we were very happy with the hundreds of beautiful photos he captured of our day. A friend of mine was married a month earlier and we were disappointed by how much her photographer aggressively butt herself into special moments - killing the intimacy in order to capture the moment. In contrast, Arnau blended himself into the scene seamlessly - capturing great moments, often times up close, while still somehow blending in the background. It allowed us to enjoy our time with friends and family without feeling self conscious or interrupted. When it came time for portraits, he directed my massive family patiently and with expertise, getting great shots. Arnau mentioned that he wanted to pull us away from our dinner for a 45 min couples shoot during the "golden hour". The moments that are not posed, but rather a snapshot of emotion at a specific time when one thinks no one is looking. We did a few posed photos for family members but after that, we were able to concentrate on the family and friends who were there to share our special day. A couple weeks after the wedding we got a "teaser" photo from our wedding. The moment I saw it I became an emotional little baby!
