BEST sushi place in lethbridge by far!!!!! Lighthouse can sometimes come close, but dono outshines makisu, fushion, and all the other places I have tried in lethbridge. I have been going here for years and it has always been consistent in quality. The menu can be quite pricy at times (which quality sushi generally is), but if you know how to pick out the deals & don't mind going during certain times they always have specials going on. They do amazing lunch combo specials that come with so much food for under 15$ from 12-4!!! They do dinner combo specials at pretty much anytime you like (different options than lunch) for not much over 20$. They also have a very generous happy hour menu from 2-5pm (excludes Sundays & holidays) where they offer many options for 5$ and 10$. The service here can sometimes be slow, they only check on you periodically throughout but if you can catch eye contact with your server they almost always come right away. The interior of this place is also very cute and they usually have you sit in semi private booths with curtains so it is great if you are wanting a nice private dining experience. Took a quick road trip to Lethbridge from Montana. Decided to seek out some really good sushi and we sure hit the jackpot here. From the minute we slid in to our cute, private booth and were greeted, given water and a pitcher of more. Service was stellar, we even got a delicious complimentary rice and seaweed appetizer. Very unique rolls and some very spicy like the Autumn roll and Crunchy Tiger. Our son ordered a roll that came on a plate with fire! The sashimi was melt in your mouth especially salmon and mackerel ngiri. We loved every bite and were well taken care of too. The Dono spring roll was different and refreshing. If we ever come this way again, we will be back. Pretty easy, quick detour off the highway and lots of parking. read more

It seems every time we been to this place the waitress looks at you as you wait at the door. And wait. And wait. And wait. With tables right in front of you this gives the impression they really don't care for you as their customer. When we finally get to ordering the phone rings and without excusing herself she turns and goes to answer the phone leaving us mid order and doesn't come back for 5 min. while she starts an order at another table ????? Stopped by on a Saturday around 3:30PM and was delighted to discover their happy hour menu from 2-5PM. Tried the Chino roll and panko-crusted zucchini sticks, both were very good. I totally agree with the last reviewer, the service here is pretty crappy. Wait, I don't think it really can be called service. We too had to wait to be seated... I would have been okay had they just shouted sit anywhere. I was a little confused by the waitress button on the wall near the table. Well, now I know that the only way that you can get attention at the tale is to push that button. The sushi was okay, not knock your socks off, and certainly not anything original, but edible. Their sake, served too hot, was a okay, sake should not be warmed in a microwave and I prefer my sake room temperature. Had I seen on the menu it was hot, I would not have ordered it. 2017.04.24. Our first day in the City of Lethbridge. We went to Dono Sushi with our friend. Since we were there in the afternoon, the restaurant was not crowd and we found a seat fast. The environment of the restaurant is a Japanese style and clean atmosphere. There are lots of selections on the menu. The colorful and fancy menu made customers very easy to pick what they want to eat. The server was friendly and helpful who was very fast to take an order. Because the Lunch Special is between 11:00 am - 2:30 pm, three of us ordered three lunch boxes (Dono Lunch Box, Spicy Lunch Box and Sushi Lunch Combo) with special prices and Takoyaki. Sushi rolls tasted awesome. Takoyaki is a little bit expensive, but the taste is good. The price of the food is a little bit expensive, but it's totally worth for the price. Good customer service. We love this place! Amazing presentation and so fresh and tasty. Our kids can't get enough of the miso soup and Crispy California. While us adults never know where to start, or finish for that matter. We've eaten at all the sushi places in town and this is the one that stands out for it's great combination of price, quality and taste. I understand the minimum wage has gone up and everything might be more expensive, but in what sense lowering the quality of food is good for the business? It's really too bad some people on here had a bad experience. I kinda understand the bad service, especially the small language barrier but if you have only been once or twice you can't really judge them, service is good. My wife and i used to be devoted Lighthouse goers, good, clean fresh sushi, nice atmosphere, still go from time to time. When Dono opened we were excited for something new but concerned of the location (bad reputation) We are now devoted DONO lovers! Fresh, creative sushi at a decent price. Some rolls are costly but BIG, full and made with love! The thing we like most about them and why we switched from Lighthouse to Dono (i hope lighthouse reads this) is Dono is VERY appreciative of our business. We go frequently and they notice, no sub charges, no charge for an extra cup for green tea and they give us little extras, like try this new dish on us or here is a free order of sashimi. I've been to Dono a couple of times and must say they have an amazing selection of rolls. That being said tho the service is very poor unless you are with a man. The time I was with a man, we were well attended to. All other times we waited for refills and our bill to the point that we got up and got our own and just got up to leave. The waitress was actually cleaning and sweeping, literally ignored us! No way to get repeat business. The washrooms were a complete disgrace. So bad that I swore I would not go back unless it was for takeout and I have done neither in over two years. I would like to when makisu is not available but too scared. We ate here in June of this year (2012). Sorry Dono. I had high hopes for you. And such an adorable little place too! Let me start with a bunch of caveats; I'm used to having an excellent, well-priced sushi place everywhere you turn (Vancouver), so maybe my expectations are a bit high. Secondly; maybe we chose items that are not as commonly ordered in Lethbridge, so maybe the quality wasn't quite as high as it might be for higher turnover items. I can't come up with a good excuse for the slow service, except that I notice that everywhere in Lethbridge seems to be hiring kitchen staff/servers right now, so maybe they were understaffed? Here goes: We arrived basically at dinnertime (a little bit early maybe; 4:30-5). There was a lady waiting for takeout and a few other tables full (two or three; got a bit busier by the time we left). Our sever checked in with us to see if we were ready to order after we'd had our menus for a minute or two. It was our first time, so we needed a bit longer. She didn't check back in with us until maybe 10 minutes later; I was starting to think that maybe I should get up to try to find her. Our food arrived in a reasonable time after we finally ordered. The quality, unfortunately, was extremely mediocre at best. None of the items tasted fresh, several nigiri had a strongly fishy smell to them (I know, it's fish, but you know the smell I'm talking about). I have never seen my husband spit food out, but he couldn't quite swallow a bite of tuna nigiri. TMI, sorry. I am adventurous and not a picky eater at all, especially when it comes to sushi, but I couldn't finish my meal either. The spicy tuna roll seemed like it was proportionately more spicy mayo than tuna and the flavour was just off. The pricing was higher than we're used to, but I expected that in a small, landlocked city, so it didn't seem at all unreasonable. I love, love sushi and I may come back on my own and give it another chance sometime, I'm really desperate for a good local option! But I know I'll never convince my husband to try again. read more

Great atmosphere, and great value, but most importantly, excellent food. I recommend the Spicy Maki Combo if you're really hungry. Came in on a Sunday.the service was great, when it wasn't busy. As soon as tables started to fill up the service went from great to non existent. The food was good, however the spicy tuna/ and salmon left something to desired, they tasted like the fish was coated in mayo, not at all good. The tempura came out super hot and was very good. Lived in Japan, married into a Japanese family, enjoyed San Jose's Japantown often and let me tell you, this restaurant was a complete shocker for us! Talk about a hole in the wall having some of the best cuisine! It's got some of the best Lethridge has to offer and is completely authentic! Service was good and the food was very delicious and innovative within the boundaries of what is acceptable to both Japanese and European palates. The fish was very fresh and we enjoyed the tempura very much. We ordered a vegetarian plate as well and found it delightful (Teri Tofu rolled in Mochi). Can't write home about the condition of the bathroom floor, but whatever. The rest of the bathroom was clean enough. Perhaps the staffing problem is an older one or a weekend peek hours problem. Great food, but the service is horrible. When you're at the door, they seem surprised to see you, and then they ignore you. I even had a server reprimand me for seating myself. Not cool. Once you receive your food, that's the last time you'll see the server. The men making the sushi in the back are not the friendliest bunch.
