Owner is rude and stares you down while you try to shop around. Would not recommend. Very messy and unorganized.

There's such a hodgepodge of stuff here, but it's fun to do some window shopping. I feel like I'm in someone's garage, sifting through stuff, but I enjoy that sort of environment. Staff is friendly and nice and very helpful. Even though I wasn't able to find what I wanted here, they were helpful enough to point me to other stores that might be able to get me what I need (who does that these days??). So yeah, I'll be stopping by this place more often for my photography needs. read more

This is a funny little warehouse space type store that is jammed full of all sorts of camera gear everywhere. Sort of place to rummage for hours or take the shortcut and ask if they have what you need. Hey presto yes here it is. Great little place and a great owner. Film or dslr you are covered. In fact, if you are just getting into film they have a whole huge shelf full of film ready to shoot. If you want to develop then they have that stuff too. Need a reflector or light box? Yes that is on the shelf as well. Owner fun to talk to and prices I found to be good. Picked up a small light box I'm going to use on a bracket for macro work and a Manfrotto monopod while I was there. If did not need to get to an appointment later I would have certainly ended up getting more. Will definitely be back! If you are looking for photography stuff then definitely give this place a try! read more

This place is a smorgasbord for vintage cameras, equipment, film and darkroom supplies. I make it a point to stop in from time to time just to see what's new and all to often find something intriguing to either purchase or just learn about. A very helpful and friendly staff as well. read more

This is really a Dallas treasure. They support keeping film and darkroom photography going, they carry most of the Ilford and Kodak product lines, and the used gear is a blast to poke through. Yep, it's kinda like an old-gear-garage-sale with piles of stuff and not everything perfectly organized, but it's fun to dig around and look at all the old gear - enlarger parts, bags and cases, stands, etc. And the good stuff - cameras and lenses - is clean and organized. Their prices for film and paper are the same as the big mail order places, so supporting this store doesn't feel at all like "charity for a mom & pop", it's a great resource for beginners to very experienced darkroom workers. read more

As a photographer of 10 years, I went in to check out some film stuff. No real organization to the store, which gave a garage sale type feel. I didn't mind it. There are surprises everywhere. They had a good selection of 35mm film; however, there weren't too many cameras in at the time. My main complaint was the service of the son, not Don. The son was not very helpful. He was pretty much a jerk. I did not like his attitude. His responses were condescending. My sister, a beginner photographer, went and she said the same thing. She said she had a very frustrating conversation with him. I'm upset that he would treat her that way. I'm only going back to support Don, who seems incredibly nice. read more

I was visiting Texas and happened to drive by I just had to go back and visit. Unfortunately for me what I was looking for was in high demand so no luck for me. Don's photo has an amazing selection of used cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, even enlargers. There are all sorts of film cameras in just about every format. They buy used cameras as well as selling them. And Don's is one of the few places left in Dallas that still stocks a wide range of film including 120, 35mm, and Impossible Project Polaroid film. I have shopped at Don's off and on for the past twenty years. It is a family owned business in its second generation and are always very helpful and courteous. When I needed a lens, strobe or strobe accessories or a light stand, more times than not they had what I needed.
