What I expected from my last visit was, above all, an escape from the persistent heatwave. You might think that air conditioning in such public places is the norm. I imagined myself lost in thought, surrounded by art that is not always understood by the masses. Actually, to be honest, I didn't care much about any of this. I just wanted to get some cool air in an artsy-fartsy environment. Imagine that on three levels, only the lowest one had cool air. With the most boring exposition (sorry Nowosielski) and the smallest space. The only good thing was air conditioning and one seat, which I immediately took to chill out for a while. I'm not sure what to add. After three years of reconstruction / remodeling, I expected the interior to be modern, technologically advanced and comfortable for visitors. Also, there were only two places to rest for the entire three levels of space. One of them was a kind of lounge chair, but I didn't want to lie down, just sit. The gallery was almost empty during my visit. Apart from me, I saw only two pairs of visitors, and possibly too many gallery employees doing who knows what. There was also one fly.

I've been here a couple of times for the World Press Photography exhibitions and it's quite a nice setting for them. After browsing the gallery (upstairs!) you can go to the lovely Bunkier Cafe a few steps away.

The Museum of Municipal Engineering is a place dedicated to fans of science, ingineering and old…read morecars. The place consists of a few buildings, each one with a different kind of exhibition such as: old trams, printing machines, new ingineering projects. My favourite one is however the part dedicated to all the significant car types that used to be produced in Poland in the past, included some very interesting prototypes that never went into mass production :) The rest of the museum is maybe not as much entertaining, but for this particular part it's worth to visit the place at least once!

If you're just visiting for a short time, focus on attractions that are worth your energy, money etc. This museum is more for locals, who can follow a schedule of classes and educational events. I was surprised that there is no permanent exhibition, only rotating temporary ones. In short, the main building was a mess. First, I saw an old, bead up paravane/folding screen with a note announcing that the exhibits were being changed. At that time, I had no idea there was a second, new building. I needed some guidance and information. The person at the front desk was visibly annoyed when I started to ask questions. No smile or greetings, just a typical 'resting bitch face', useless. She might not have been born yet when the museum opened in 1994. Now this person thinks she's so cool by being close to Japanese culture and a cafe with matcha. In reality, she represented the museum as just a lazy person at work. Cafe Manggha is located in the same area. It was busy and chaotic. The vibe I got from their Instagram photos wasn't there as well. However, I would still like to check out their offer. In 2015, The Europe - Far East Gallery was established as an annex to the main museum building. After entering the gallery it was refreshing to finally meet someone who was polite and willing to tell me everything I wanted to know, and even more. "Suiseki is the Japanese art of appreciating what's naturally occurring, unshaped stones that through their form and patterns, evoke natural scenes, landscapes, or objects, such as mountains, waterfalls, or figures". I enjoyed it, especially the second floor. The background music, the dark room with bright lights pointing out objects--it all came together really nicely. Almost all the artists were from Europe, mostly Poland. So on the day of my visit there was only one exhibition available for the entire museum. What's about Japanese technology? Tuesdays are free and I liked that price for what I received. Unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to visit the main museum building during this stay. Maybe next time.
