Coworker brought in some donuts from Donut Friends to work one day and it was truly a treat. Not only is this usually out of my PvP zone radius in getting food from, but the donuts that we got to try were unique and delicious as well. We have someone vegan in our office, so this is perfect since their donuts are plant based, I believe. If I were a being of greed, I would have eaten more of their donuts, but since this was a special occasion and people genuinely wanted to eat the donuts (since sometimes I know that food is left in the breakroom for awhile if people aren't interested in consuming it), I only tried one donut. I got to try their Yo La Mango. Love the bright yellow, slightly tart mango glaze and the dash of Tajin on top. It's sweet, tart, and has a slight kick wherever the Tajin was sprinkled on. They were extremely fresh, have a large variety of flavors, texture & flavor are perfect. If you aren't sure what to get, the staff is friendly and will make a recommendation. These are definitely very pricey, but totally worth it as a treat. I tried their glaze, raspberry jam filled with sugar topping, and the one that is a glazed donut cut in half to sandwich freshly whipped cream and fresh strawberries. All were delicious, with the whipped cream and strawberry one being my absolute favorite. I judge a donut shop by their glazed, because they must get the basics right. Donut Friend's glaze is large, perfectly textured and glazed to perfection. This donut shop is completely vegan - meaning it can serve people with a variety of dietary choices without compromising any texture or flavor. This is a small LA-based donut chain with three different locations. I visited the one in DTLA and inside was bright, modern and spacious. The shop offered many different kinds of donuts including traditional glazed, old-fashioned donuts to innovative flavors such as passionfruit, and mochinut. I decided to try the matcha green tea donut with black sesame. It was so sweet. I couldn't taste the matcha at all. I've been a fan of matcha before it became a thing globally. Matcha is supposed to taste slightly bitter with umami. This was just sugary green colored donut. For me, Asian flavor desserts need to taste less sugary and still preserve the original flavors of the ingredients. I didn't taste any matcha or sesame. I tasted lots of sugar. Vegan donuts . . Since I became allergic to dairy I was limited in enjoying many of my favorite desserts. I am thankful to the Vegan community for making so many delicious treats. The old fashion is my favorite. They have such a great selection of donuts. I have tried many and I haven't encountered a horrible one. They are very tasty and worth a trip. Just a block or so away from Pershing Square, this Donut Friend location serves up sugary goodness to Al who are downtown. It's bright and clean inside, unlike the surrounding streets outside. There are some benches for people to sit, but they're not very comfortable. Donuts are on display behind glass towards the back. They seem to have ample supply even though it's near their closing time, so the display area looks nice and full. We tried the X-ray Speculoos and Give Up the Toast. Weird names but the donuts were pretty good. Not near the best we've ever had but good. The young lady that helped us was very nice, so thumbs up for staff friendliness. We came her at night, when all neighbor businesses were closed, and that makes the street look sketchy. But I bet in the daytime, it's a completely different vibe. The whip cream and strawberry stuffed donut, the outside felt rather dry, not sure how long it has been sitting out. The inside had too much whip cream so it really felt you were just getting mouthfuls of whip cream. The matcha donut actually was decent with the matcha coming through. Donut Friend has a few locations, including this one in DTLA in the Jewelry District. Lots of desserts to choose from. The whole thing is plant based, so there's no need to ask about ingredients like eggs and that kind of stuff. Came a few times recently in the morning and later in the afternoon. It's always full of donuts to choose from. These are kind of expensive, but these aren't ordinary ones though. It's about $4 each. Lots of cool and interesting flavors. Best looking one last time was the Paramoreo Donut. This had a blue icing and Oreo crumbles on top. As for the ice cream, these are also plant based. It's about $5 a scoop, so not cheap. Had only a couple to choose from, and we got the Corn Against. This had a pretty corny flavor of course, while it wasn't crazy sweet. Just not much of it in a cup.
