We will make Doozies a regular stop between home and Traverse City from now on. The ice cream is great, the selection is extensive and the old man taking the orders is so nice. A cone rolled in nuts is my favorite - but their nuts weren't just peanuts, but cashews, almonds, pecans and peanuts! They are very reasonably prices, and easy to get to by a short jump off the freeway and jump back on. The parking lot is small, so if you are pulling an HUGE RV, park next door or across the street. The driveway entrance bottomed out our fifth. I think they are cash only but their prices won't break the bank. Enjoy your summer ice cream cone while you can. read more

This is my favorite ice cream shop, I just wish it was open year round instead of only spring summer and fall.

The staff is quick, don't be deterred if there is a line, they move quick. They only take cash, no debit or credit cards. Their ice cream is good and their mix-ins are fresh. My only gripe is they don't mix their arctic swirls well enough and often don't add enough of the mix-ins. My fav is the Pecan Arctic Swirl with butterscotch syrup. When made properly it's the bomb. When not it's a few mouthfuls of everything followed by several mouthfuls of just plain ice cream. Not what I'm looking for. I need some consistency to give that 5th star. I will take one for my fellow Yelpers and keep visiting to see if they get the consistency part right. Stay tuned for future updates. read more

We stopped here after a weekend at Soaring Eagle Waterpark... the flavor selection was unbelievable! So many options that I have never seen before! The long line moved quickly and the girls working there were friendly and efficient. The ice cream tasted fresh and the flavors were amazing! I have been going to Doozies for as long as I can remember. Almost every time, I always get the green apple flavor burst because no where else nearby had it (except Pixie down the road). I used to love coming here with my family. Unfortunately, over the years, the quality of Doozies has gone downhill. They've always been cash only, which is okay if you always have cash on you. Otherwise, make sure to take a quick trip to an ATM to pull some out. The ice cream sizes are getting smaller while the prices are going up. The size of a medium is now a small. The flavor bursts, which cost fifty cents extra, have hardly any flavor anymore. I'm basically paying extra for a vanilla cone with some flavor. I've also noticed how weird it is that only college-age women work here minus Mr. Doozie. Lines are stupid long in the summer and it's rare to get through the line quickly. Some of the girls, while nice, are really slow at making the ice cream and cause lines to get even longer. I've never waited less than five to ten minutes for my ice cream. I'm all for supporting a local business, especially one that I've been frequenting almost my whole life, but I think I'll take my money elsewhere with how things are getting. All I can say is go at your own risk and prepare to wait a long time for mediocre ice cream. read more

After hearing so much good stuff about Doozies from my sister in law, we finally went yesterday while the hubby was watching the NFL draft. They have everything from slushees, blizzards, soft serve, handmade ice cream and sundaes. I decided to go with an Arctic Chill which is much like a blizzard from Dairy Queen or a McFlurry. I got mine with chocolate chip cookie dough and mint flavoring. So delicious. I instantly regretted my choice of size medium, but I soon remembered that it meant the goodness could last for another day. My sister in law and hubby also got Arctic Chills. His with Reese's and Heath bar and hers with Reese's and Snickers. The soft serve vanilla ice cream that the swirls come with is better than any other soft serve I have had. I see why so many people wait until the Spring for this place to open to enjoy some cold goodness. Since we live pretty close, I told my husband that if we ever want it again we have to walk there. read more

This place has SO many great options for "mix ins" for their arctic swirls and the hard ice cream is great as well! Bring cash because they don't take cards. Very friendly workers. A fun local place! I live in Seattle but come to visit the in-laws in Mt. P. We always make it to Doozies. If you're lucky Mr. Doozie himself will be there. In a town full of generic chain places it's refreshing to patronize a locally establishment. Highly recommended. read more

Good local ice cream run by a friendly, high-energy staff (though it is, admittedly, a bit odd that an old man hires almost exclusively women under 25). We love their skinny-dip for limited calories. The only issues I can see are the parking during busy hours (it gets quite hectic), and their lack of online presence. They rarely update their Facebook page at all, which is essential as their skinny dip flavors constantly change. It's a shame they don't use it more. Cash only. read more

Not all soft serve is created equal and Doozies is the benchmark. Their soft serve is the smoothest, creamiest, most delicious you will ever find. EVER! The strawberry flavor burst is my favorite, but they make flawless Boston Coolers (Vernor's and Vanilla ice cream shake) and Brown Cows (root beer and vanilla ice cream shake). The old guy at the window taking orders is a hoot. After a barrage of questions (he led us down the right path) we had a couple of ice creams in cups that were plentiful, delicious and well priced. The menu is very confusing, but with his guidance we made it through. LOL. Definitely worth the stop for some ice cream.
